  1. Some critical remarks by the CT Freewheeling podcast crew on this recently.
  2. Neither. But so called soft issues have a pronounced effect on business. But nobody here is making a business case. Completely agree on all else. And am pretty sure that people for the most part are aware of these issues. All of which are not unique either. As mentioned previously though, purely speculative, and really this is why forums exist. People with different perspectives can discuss topics such as this without malice and a pinch of salt. It doesn't detract from anything.
  3. Imho ... In this brand saturated market, none. Unless they take on another existing brand that's represented locally. Personally I don't feel Cannondale SA leverage Hatherly's association enough, if at all. Certainly not comparable to when he was with Specialized. In saying that though, we don't know what the structure and details are. With Rush Sports however they've a dynamic support for the schools league, where Hatherly started out essentially.
  4. Theres MORE!? ????
  5. Interesting how things come full circle in so many ways, BE was instrumental in ProBike and creating Scott Sports ZA before leaving. Probike also had to create Axis as an in house brand when Raleigh made the mistake of pulling the brand elsewhere. The Pon Group oversee Raleigh. Keep in mind Rush Sport also do in house brands Apex and Signal, catering the kids/youth and entry to lower mid range bikes (under 20k) with Santa Cruz being their flagship boutique brand, also part of the Pon Group. There's a certain gap there that Rush may or may not want to fill as far as ranging goes. The guys at Rush Sports are not fools, they have a strong industry experience across the board and could pretty much go anywhere in the world among the big brands. Likewise Omnico has been around a long time and built an impressive operation, including their own in house brands such as Ryder. So there may be some shuffling or even a shared model between Rush and Omnico, stranger things have happened. Purely speculative however, but we are certainly going to be seeing more consolidation locally. Incidentally the Pon Group also took over one of the largest LBS chains in the US, 12 shops in total. Thereby squeezing out Specialized in those regions. Locally we see the More Group taking on more agencies, buying direct and developing in house brands through Cycle Lab. Orbea for example. Local cycling media has become somewhat reticent in covering serious industry news, some good FYI reading here - https://www.bike-eu.com/market/nieuws/2021/10/pon-becomes-biggest-in-bicycles-with-dorel-sports-take-over-10141466 https://www.bicycleretailer.com/retail-news/2021/08/18/bay-area-retail-powerhouse-mikes-bikes-sold-pon-group-owner-santa-cruz-and?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=bicycle+retailer+and+industry+news&utm_campaign=a9028a9b-eeb2-4f4d-95a0-8b8495a250ed#.YWgIwNlByqA
  6. It's been happening everywhere always and still makes headlines everywhere.
  7. Is the migrant Savage still lurking around Jozi? ... Drinking our beer, stealing our womenfolk, our jobs, our trails, our coffee. #gautexit !!!
  8. Been a fire there recently, which also took out the water pumphouse and Circus Cafe gate. Apparently the water has been restored though as Eskom have been working on repairs, also the overnight sites are opening again. So it seems things are slowly picking up at SBR. I follow an FB page for updates: https://www.facebook.com/suikerbosrand.friends
  9. On older bikes, you'll be lucky to get away with 28mm max.
  10. Follow Ashley and Jerad Gruber on Instagram, they set the gold standard in visual coverage imho ....
  11. Was part of one of our local ride groups. Properly good guy and rider. a family is without their husband and father tonight. Ridiculous. Just the other day was mentioning how much more at ease it feels riding in the early AM.
  12. Having worked on some of this, I asked the same when tested. Reason being it provides a better sample for a higher accuracy. Also the reason why we don't self administer tests (like the USA). Many SA healthcare workers have experience in public health rollouts and pandemic environments.
  13. When we go out riding. I am the lightning .................. ????
  14. Oh? Proportionally how many cycle paths are there within road infrastructure? Of those that are, how many are actually usable in a safe manner?
  15. Fit and comfort with MIPS, go from there. Some brands hold better after sales support than others with some form of crash replacement percentage. Bell, Giro, Specialized, Lazer, Titan, Abus, Bontrager are good examples.
  16. You've been gifted a memorable experience, go for it.
  17. Christophe Bassons. Now there’s an actual legend worth the cake ????
  18. Like many, I’ve dealt with Manny (ACE) a number of times, never an issue. Has always been a standup gent. As is his reputation. You have haven’t actually said anything substantive amongst the personal insults and aggro. Which makes one think there’s more to your post than let on.
  19. Yip, hence my temptation ????
  20. Or take side cutters and clip the nozzle further down where it's wider, no more clogging. Scissors also work but feel so domestically effeminate, with side cutters you feel really handy and can make a grunt just like Tool Man Tim.
  21. Wildly different scenario regarding corporate brand ink. Also wildly stupid imho opinion, but also not worth projecting about. I've seen some pretty good event ink work, a guy who the old Epic logo ages back, incorporated among some of his existing ink. What was also cool is that he did it for himself based on his experience, not for any perception of street cred. Which for the most part is likely why most people do it, not for some random commentator.
  22. Such a personal choice, I'm a fan, always have been. Although currently I'm running XT 12spd and I've always like Shimano's trigger shifters, especially with the double action. A bit tempted to try out the gripshift for a bit though.
  23. What profile. It is a tattoo of an event, for whatever reason. Some people think the SSWC is lame, personally I think they have a stick up their ass. The point is what people decide to do with ink is upto them.
