  1. Sure, but that's true of anything throughout the legal system. And here's an unpopular reality, doping will never stomped out. We're dealing with human nature, there will always be someone committing an offence/crime.
  2. Absolutely love it, doubt I'll own one at 150euro (R2600) but it's an amazing design. Would make a perfect gift being a limited range. Hope they do a broader range with a few design tweaks.
  3. Because he isn't a 'likeable character' so much of the reaction is based on a sense of vengeance rather than justice. The court of public opinion is a fickle one.
  4. Not sure how that would work? Isn't that a reductive approach? Not all doping infringements are of equal measure, like any other legal case.
  5. Ah but is it? Or is it only reactive? Because on balance it seems people only care about doping when there is a press release and/or headline sanctioning an athlete. Ideally we would see a robust investigation and criminal prosecution of those supplying the product. As well as punisment for the users. The reality unfortunately is that SAIDS are under resourced and funded for this. And the SIU have larger priorities, so something like sports doping falls low on the priority scale. Unless there is a more serious crime to hang it onto. Take the concern on widespread doping abuse in school sports for years, especially rugby. Anabolics is a specific concern for SAIDS. It should warrant a proper criminal investigation. https://www.news24.com/health24/Fitness/News/SA-schoolboys-taking-steroids-20120721 Also at some point we need to look at ourselves and the culture of how success is measured. SAIDS expresses deep concern over a multiple steroid test result from a 15-year old school boyhttps://drugfreesport.org.za/saids-expresses-deep-concern-over-a-multiple-steroid-test-result-from-a-15-year-old-schoolboy/ 1 584 athletes tested during 2018/19 – SAIDS Annual Report publishedhttp://drugfreesport.org.za/1-584-athletes-tested-during-2018-19-saids-annual-report-published/
  6. Ya Flow MTB picked up on it and did a pretty in depth piece. Had an ASR for a while and loved it, but did date pretty quickly and when pricing the SB replacements just couldn't justify the cost.
  7. Far from it. I do however often have empathy surrounding the circumstances of how these situations play out. Case by case for any athlete regardless. For this one specifically yes I have sympathy as well. The issues regarding PTSD, depression and anxiety are very real and often are brushed aside. It's a topic that touches close to home.
  8. More than likely, as far as I know it's intramuscular every week or so. Given her accident though I suppose treatment for injections weren't really uncommon. Which would point to the issue raised by SAIDS requiring a TUE. Especially given the no needles policy.
  9. Have a few bookmarks saved, used to sub edit doping press releases received before publishing them. Mainly because the pressers were woefully anemic in context/detail to be informative. Nandrolene alongside with testosterone is a relatively common doping substance for sport though.
  10. From the hearing report; "19-norandrosterone and 19-noreticholanolone [nandrolone]." Clinical/doping effects; https://academic.oup.com/clinchem/article/50/2/355/5639637 "Because of its anabolic properties, nandrolone is used among athletes as a doping agent to accelerate muscle growth; to increase lean body mass, strength, and aggressiveness; and to allow faster recovery between athletic performances (4)(5)(6)."
  11. Yes the system is flawed in some respects, and under resourced. But to be fair the sentence is appropriately in line with the offence. And if anyone bothers to actually read up on the process instead of making a kneejerk forum post, they'll see that. The entire hearing document is also linked through from the press release, which already summarises the details. This alone is a big improvement in the communication clarity from SAIDS/CSA. In fact the SAIDS site lists all the hearing documentation and minutes for each sporting code sanction. As far as this particular sanction goes, I really feel for Lynette Burger. This is a rough one and the effects of a severe head trauma shouldn't be underestimated, the damage is long term even for the rest of a person's life. Your entire personality can undergo a complete change. The human brain isn't like a broken bone. This doesn't condone the doping violation nor the extremely shaky defence. There must be accountability as a consequence and going by the hearing document much of this was taken into account.
  12. No jokes, ironically Doddy also worked with MBUK/MBI in the early 90s. I remember an eight page feature they did on bike thefts in the various metropols. There were a couple gangs operating with a white van, at one uni library they rocked up. Took and entire bike rack out the ground and scampered. One of the current issues is yobs stealing scooters, broad daylight. Friend of mine was in France for two months over Dec/Jan, his company is based in Paris and they refused to allow him to bring his bike indoors. Security were adamant that they wouldn't guarantee it's safety even been locked to a lampost in full view of security.
  13. Dude, this has been a thing in the USA, UK and plenty parts of Europe and all over. Even before SA. **** man, your bike is safer here with a standard bike lock at the shops than most places in Paris/London even.
  14. Oh how they have you fooled. Those wily sartorialists....
  15. Remember, it must be artisan craftsmanship hand stitched by a retired peg leg sailor, using material recycled from cloth sacks that once held coffee beans for shipping. A month is just long enough for me to have a beard, not full. But still a beard of sorts. More pressed on entering though, my birthday on the day and couldn't think of a better way to celebrate! Well I could, but ...........

  17. A few communication basics, start times and such like. As said though, it was a successful event. Out of interest, from what basis are you asking this question?
  18. Ah, the lesser spotted Flamingoes in all their hipster glory, stick on mustaches and everything.
  19. Already happening for a while now, although recently some players have really ramped up their offerings. Of course there's also the second hand market which has some really good buys.
  20. I'd rather see someone blowing 240 clips on a mountain bike than 50k on golf clubs. Speaking of F U money and cars, checkout Supercar Blondie on FB. Mad, mad, mad, mad!
  21. Bit more than 2 1/2 hours, but central Drakensberg is world class. Theres a range of accommodation options like Little Switzerland. But I'd take a look at somewhere like the Cavern, The Ledges, Hlalanathi, Mont Auxs, Tower Pizza Lodge etc... all near All Out Adventures. Plus you'll be on the doorstep of some damned amazing riding on the All Out trail network. About three hours drive or so.
  22. How fuken true! The FIRST thing I noticed when driving back through the burbs to my spot last night.
  23. Turned into a fantastic event considering all the odds and some teething issues. The route was always going to be really good, and with an exceptional backdrop in the Overberg region. On balance a big congrats to everyone involved, from racers to event org. This was a memorable experience during trying times and some animated racing. Especially among the ladies. Bravo! Also, I honestly think it injected some much needed economic activity into Swellandam and the surrounding areas. Speaking with the owners where I stayed, a young family took on the establishment in Feb last year. The reality of balancing Covid risks with the literal need to put food on the table and sustain a business.
  24. BD is pretty remote and I've never had an issue riding alone there. Pretty sure this is an isolated incident, especially given Francois's description of that section. Seems like it may have been an moment of opportunism from the poachers more than anything. If anything this should be met with more support and riding. Glad the guy got away unhurt. Although it would also have been good to acknowledge the response from Buffelsdrift and police in the description.
