  1. Might be a boost of this crowd - https://www.fullspeedahead.com/en/fsa-world/santa-cruz-fsa-pro-team-ready-action
  2. Herein lies the crux, it is an expensive commitment. Financial, resource and time. Like any high key adventure/event though, the cost vs value balance lies with the individual. Given the status of an event like the Cape Epic though, there are ways and means to motivate a 'sponsored' entry compared to many other events. Be it through a charity, corporate, event sponsor, etc .... I know of a few "average Joes and Janes" who managed this. One mate does a sponsor proposal each year and sends it to his clients, they'll opt wether or not to commit and how much. Have covered about 10 events and ridden one which we motivated through a combined media/charity entry at the time.
  3. Event Name: Shuttle Day Sunday 15th November Bike Park Grootfontein When: 15 November 2020 Where: Grootfontein Bike Park, Gauteng Category: Enduro So we were initially thinking that the 08th November would be a good day. The Facts • 15th November 8am-3pm • Unlimited Shuttle Runs. • Full Access to all the trails and Flow Line. • Lucky Draw Prize. • Pop On Your Strava to see where you stand. • Shuttle and Bike Park fee only 220 South African Rands. Go to Event Page
  4. Think under the circumstances they've put forward a good compromise, they need to present some form of plan and it needs to be in line with the current circumstances. We don't know what may change, just as likely the situation could also improve. At least they've been open with the comms. Many towns and staff are dependant on the income Cape Epic brings, spectators or no.
  5. Something else to consider, given the climate of bike jackings and muggings. Say the rider was armed and reacted, within rights. We'd be having a very different conversation about the results of a very stupid prank and who are pansies. In fact regardless of speculation of who or what came off second best. The bred pansy is not the chap on the bike.
  6. Try these guys. Otherwise your best is to contact Orbea directly on email. https://fluidlines.co.za Also, Switchback Sports carry a wide range of generic hangar.
  7. Plenty trails up here that make a case for a dropper post.
  8. "Riis and his long-time business partner Lars Seier Christensen were due to take part ownership of the team, penning a 'letter of intent', but as of the beginning of September, Doug Ryder was still full owner of the team, according to the Danish press." https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bjarne-riis-on-sponsor-search-to-replace-ntt-it-is-difficult/
  9. Went and checked the lines on Friday afternoon. Route is looking good and theres something for everyone, I believe there is a shuttle day on the 8th for practice runs.
  10. Still trying to pry an old Marzocchi Z3 off a mate. Back when the orange 3 inch travel was OMG downhill stuff. X-Fusion are terribly under rated products. Doug Bradbury who founded Manitou (who have as much history as Rock Shox) heads up their suspension development. This was after he was the suspension/design guy for Tomac Bikes. DVO work beautifully, but can become finicky over time. A couple mechanics I know aren't the happiest campers when it comes to servicing them, especially if on a budget. And mechies are generally pretty emo already!
  11. Turn the cloths inside out. Sorted.
  12. How is driving the wrong way down a road not endangering people?
  13. Alloy frame with that build kit, difficult to find something along the same lines.
  14. Mikey sounds Saffa? ..... Same intersection one guy actually bumps him with his car and then gets arrested by the cops. So who is actually "the nuisance" here? Good on Mikey
  15. Resale will be less, also depends an who did the repair and what their guarantee is.
  16. Similar discussion here -> https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/187118-clutch-lever-coming-loose-during-rides-12spd-slx/page-1
  17. It is worthwhile to service the clutch, I had issues with mine after some moisture ingress which dried out the mechanism after standing during lockdown. Takes a while but if you're mechanically inclined its easy enough to do yourself. I cleaned everything thoroughly and wiped down with silicone oil, reassembled and packed with a liberal amount of marine grease. Thus far not a single issue.
  18. Homeware suppliers. Best and cheapest option.
  19. South are manufactured here. Also a number of the other local brands are actually designed, developed and prototyped here. cSixx, Lynn, Deed for example. That is a significant part of the engineering processes as well as and beyond the manufacturing on its own.
  20. Can't remember if I'd posted this before. Found it whilst cleaning out image archives.... Pano shot taken during a route recce for a training camp. Border of SA and Lesotho, total climb equates approximately 12km to get to this spot. Descent is similar distance and winds down to the valleys below. Kilometres of raw backcountry style riding over a variety of abandoned cut road, rocky cattle track and sand stone. Much of the time you're quite close to the river which demarcates the border, so cell phone signal is turned off. Between the weather and terrain features you literally cross between two different worlds in the opposing valleys. One of my most memorable and purest ride routes, every time.
  21. Mooi man. Looking forward
  22. Some industry ouens were keen on utilising the rail network for just that. In particular the defunct routes which have building dotted all over that would serve as overnight huts in the more remote areas. This was before the phrase of gravel grinder was spawned forth.
  23. Good move. Afrikaans language has alway been a powerful medium in cycling. For a long time this was one of Ride Magazine's strengths. My taal is maar meer bedonner as lekker. But this soutie will keep an eye out. Quality content is quality content. Regardless of language or medium.
  24. Totally different beast to the SL Vast majority of riders don't need to add weight to take part in any sanctioned event. Unless you're an elite with a UCI licence.
  25. Don't agree, at least not as far as the range is concerned. On the Elite, sure maybe. But wait til other brands/spec/pricing start coming out properly. Overall they're still doing some good value specs and the alloy bikes are really well priced.
