  1. A rose by any other name.... personally always enjoy this event, it's a great atmosphere and the thunderstorms are almost expected as part of the whole show. Brings out the animal in some folk, specially certain 'dawgs' .... Must be the lightening. Heh.
  2. Craighall Locksmiths do this as well. Quoted me a third of the dealers price for a coded key and better service.
  3. Have an iON with the Wifi, but yeah the Wifi on the Hero3 is great. But I've found the video quality to be better as well in low light and changing light. Specially with some HDR grading on post work. Would be great to have the GoPro editors packaged into a box too, along with their edit suite .... eheh
  4. Sorry to see. There's also the iON action cams and Sonio (sp?) ... couple of really good products out there. GoPro is a great product and in many ways sets the standard with their latest edition. They're not exceptionally better though, their biggest strength is incredibly good video edits to boost their brand. Puts them way ahead of other action cams in the market.
  5. As a thumbsuck example, imagine if just 3 out of every ten cars car pooled? Apply that to using the train/busses. With bicycles, a decent e-bike system costs the same as a bottom range scooter. Companies can provide flex hours and relax working conditions like on certain projects letting staff work from home.
  6. Theres an irony in agreeing with someone and then getting the interpretation their post all wrong. Whoever appeared on the podium at Hayterdale deserved to be there, end of story. XCO is about a combination of skills, fitness, stamina and luck. If your strength makes up in one area for another, that's the whole point.
  7. I know that ... Just correcting some of the info. We created the "News" section specifically for Releases/PR stuff from outside. You've no idea some of the stuff that crosses the desk for release, I'm not just talking about Tread either, other clients too! You know, people who can 'write good' and 'take nice pics' ....
  8. Spot on Nigel, the last bit sums it up perfectly. Con is pretty disappointed in not being able to ride but ultimately stoic about what happened. No one likes or want's to see riders hurt themselves like that, but it comes down to the individuals decision as much as anything else. Many seem to forget that, ultimately it's a risk vs reward decision. More so in an event of this stature.
  9. Take it you read the "press release" then, Patches left that bit out. Hence why the source is always quoted. Copy is generally subbed for spelling and grammar, but with all the syndicated media and releases going out some things do get missed whilst we do someone's job for them.
  10. Looks very cool monsoir A. What batteries does that use? Very similar to the Hope Vision1. I'm using a Lezyne at the moment, also pretty happy with it. Taken some multi use and abuse over time though.
  11. Lumen counts are very much like megapixels on cameras, a marketing sell point. With the premise being "more is better" Even using an integrated light sphere isn't 100% because it's as controlled as it gets. However how often are we riding in a controlled environment? Best is to use it as a relative yard stick, like licking your finger to check wind direction.
  12. I'm sure I don't know what you mean .... .... 29r 110 & 650b 120 Cape Cycle Systems are the local agents. http://www.capecycles.co.za/brands.html
  13. Sniffie said it first. One of the events being the Dakar.
  14. X01 is already released and should be available soon, might be worthwhile waiting for that or even the X9,1 As for switching, still in two minds. Rode Karkloof most of last week on XX1 and never ran out of gears, used maybe 9 of the gears. Really enjoyed using it. I did find myself shifting more often though, but found it less of a hassle given that it was just the rear.
  15. For all the failings of UCI, with the mentioned event you mean ASO. ....
  16. Favorite one yet!
  17. Taxis fit into that more often than not I reckon. Although I'm finding that an increasing problem with drivers in general. Especially Fourways/Sunninghill side, maybe it's a combination of poor enforcement and high density traffic. Over the last few years though, I've often been pleasantly surprised by taxi drivers giving me a right of way on my bike. Mind you, not ten minutes later another one will do something that's as equally stupid.
  18. Please go back and read what I said, it's clearly an opinion. Which we all have. Yes I said I have some empathy for him as well, I also said "from the sound of things" not factually stating he wasn't driving recklessly. However that doesn't preclude him from being negligent. If there's anything new, we'll probably hear about it in court. But I think that would be giving the authorities too much credit for any accident scene forensics.
  19. On paper yes, but we've yet to hear of that happening or put forward as a process of action.
  20. I can categorically state I have never made my confectionary scream. Never ever.
  21. Just for accuracy's sake, this isn't a World Cup event. This is the big mackeral, THE World Champs, including the masters World Champs, it's only once a year, rarely in the same place twice and never the following year. Vastly different to the World Cup, which is part of a series.
  22. David Hogan threw together a nice little race report as well. http://www.treadmtb.co.za/gauteng-downhill-race-1/
  23. Speak for yourself fatty! ... I'm still shite.
  24. Thought I recognised you! .... I remember you from the quarry days and Sabie nationals as well! Specifically a 'near incident' with 'Doc' Oertel at the Sabie Dual course
