  1. 3k maybe ... building up something else?
  2. No, it must've had a peak
  3. That was Trevor, owns 'Crustys Workshop' legend ... Place is a good mate's old baiker hangout, they were well stoked to see everyone pull in
  4. They've brought in a multi pass system, which allows you in during the week as no money changes hands at the gate then. Was there yesterday, other than one piece of single track the thickness of the growth wasn't really an issue. Even then, it's on a minor sections.
  5. Jellos mate! If you're up for a medium/longish ride, theres an awesome route going up from the bottom of Tokai to the top of Silvermine and back! PoS should know ....
  6. To be fair to NF though, they did take it seriously and did put in some serious counter measures, before 'the hub' Additionally though NF also had to put out an email to riders who were abusive to the security. On the Spruit there are two senior SAPS members from Randburg who have been extremely proactive. Witwatersrand is a large and high density area, some precincts are better policed than others. On the whole though, there are a number of safe trails still. Nothing like what you have with TM granted, but we make do with what we have, trail wise and pretty well. van Gaalen is still the more back country kind of riding I enjoy, bit of a drive but well worth the trip. Definitely relieves my 'Tokai envy'
  7. Normally we just leave tracks in the sand
  8. Glad to hear you're back on the bike Martin! It's like an addiction, innit. Often find I get cranky if away from the bike for too long.
  9. Seriously who cares. Joe has a point, in a very tongue in cheek way. But we love to generalise and polarise each other into stereotypes, x didn't greet me, y didn't greet me back, I don't greet every single person ... So what? Cycling is as much about being in your own space as it is flapping hands in cheery greetings. Then it's bitching because of someone they don't return a greeting the same way or just nod their head. Christ but some folk are incredibly self serving and sensitive. Why not just be grateful for the fact that most of us are physically able and get to enjoy the outdoors.
  10. Try this, was covering a story with a mate/colleague. Attention started to focus on us and we were taking some flak. As we get ready to exit, a rock hits him square in the stomach, him effing and blinding as we hoof it trips and rips his nut sack. End result, he has a ruptured spleen and 6 stitches in his 'swimmers pouch' ... hows those watering eyes? That aside, wishing a good recovery to Ballen!
  11. Some areas of repetition in the below links, but they provide some useful info..... http://www.amazon.com/Trail-Solutions-IMBAs-Building-Singletrack/dp/0975502301 http://www.americantrails.org/resources/trailbuilding/index.html http://www.imba.com/resources/trail-building/designing-and-building-sustainable-trails http://www.imba.com/resources/trail-building/10-most-common-trailbuilding-mistakes http://www.mtbresource.com/trailbuilding.html
  12. Just goes to show, none of us are perfect, especially in so far as generalisations go. It has to be said though, that Dangle shop does serve up a fine cup of cofffee, and if you catch them on the right day, a crisp cold beer.
  13. It's licensed out, so no.
  14. Take a look at the GT i-Drive, unified swingarm.
  15. “We’ve chosen not to apply this retrospectively because we believe that would be naive. As has been exposed in recent months, cycling has a dark past.
  16. Nah, take anything said here, or any internet forum with a pinch of salt and ride. No such thing as out of bounds, enjoy the Cradle.
  17. Have you tried Dunkeld Cycles, they're Scott dealers. Have seen some Scott gear in there at times.
  18. Am with jmaccelari on this. The waterpoints are loaded with fruit, jelly babies, marmite saams, baby potatoes, biltong, nuts, coke, water and energy drink.
  19. Rode the 29r one at Holla, really nice, was pleasantly surprised!
  20. Natty Matty, he's a snappy skoen wearer to boot! .... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=360095604073475&set=a.360093304073705.84147.145596722190032&type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-ash3%2F557601_360095604073475_1239009761_n.jpg&size=640%2C425

  23. That and another piece have been a topic of discussion on the CM facebook page, I've long since queried their motivations and tone. They're not journalists, they're columnists/bloggers. While the authors may miss the point of CM, it's clear from most of the comments that those partaking don't. What grates me most is the condescending tone of the authors, which basically at the same time both patronises the inner city we pass through and lumps a stereotypical generalisation on the participants. In simple terms, lazy writing where they went with the easy angle. Thankfully most of the CM response from across the board proves these authors as skewed.
  24. The Science of Sport ‏@Scienceofsport Also note oversimplification of EPO effects - if doesn't work on VO2max, it must not work http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2012/12/06/3649102.htm … Narrow paradigm of physiology The Science of Sport ‏@Scienceofsport And finally, remember they said same about steroids. Athletes knew the truth all along. Sometimes science scampers after truth like a toddler
  25. One to ten mix of heavily diluted soapy water/ammonia in a squirt bottle. Harmless and works a treat!
