  1. I can't believe you uttered that word! Somewhere a barista died a gruesome death! Geez ja that was a jol, all on my birthday weekend. Thought they we're Danish though? ... Damit, always get my Nordics and confectionary mixed up!
  2. Thought I was pretty clear in that I didn't say that at all. It's upto the court to decide what was reckless and negligent, and thankfully some pressure was brought about to have this case go to court.
  3. This is a topic all on it's own. Globally the governance of the supplement industry is problematic, try the states it's like a bush fire. SA is actually in a better position than many.
  4. .... No, was a while back with my freelance work. How's the coffee skillz though?
  5. Simple. Because that's my view on it. Not to belabor a single quote, but what are you driving at?
  6. Pretty much the same boat. However as great as Jozi2Kozi is, the WC really doesn't come round that often, so the choice is clear for me this time round.
  7. That's your view, and maybe that's so and maybe it isn't. Either way, it's besides the point isn't it?
  8. Said it before, will say it again. All the focus on athletes is fine and dandy, though ultimately it's window dressing until the coaches, doctors, officials etc also start to feel the heat. Scenario, oh you're a pharmacist and a mate of jimny kriket who won tour de spruit. Ok well he got bust and you're proven as a supplier, he's received a ban from competitive sport. And you, well you sir have had your licence to practice pulled. Thanks for playing, go **** yourself. That's how it should be. Too many athletes getting bust and publicly flogged, but years down the line the same names behind the scenes pop up.
  9. Bittersweet news. IMO I don't really think there's a valid charge of culpable homicide, certainly a case for negligent driving. I've some empathy for the driver, from the sounds of things he wasn't driving (as we've come to expect with taxis) recklessly and is living with something horrible. Ultimately though someone lost their life and there needs to be some form of accountability and proper process of prosecution from the authorities in incidents like this. It can't be ignored or left to bungling red tape. Given the profile of Burry and his accomplishments, lets hope the pressure created by this can become part of a catalyst forcing the powers that be to be more stringent in prosecuting these cases as well as the penalties.
  10. They are maintained, some riders, walkers, parks etc ... albeit minimal maintenance is required for the reasons mentioned. The broken palisade is a a constant issue with drivers and regularly repaired. Apparently they're looking at some kind of barrier in the higher risk sections. Emmies loop has some of my favourite sections along the Spruit.
  11. Now, lets publish a list of the doctors and co involved. All this exposure of athletes being bust or admitting to doping after the fact is all very well and good. Ultimately though it's pure window dressing until the same spotlight is shone on the doctors, staff, officials etc who are involved.
  12. Apathy isn't harsh at all, why else is there no provincial series? Keep in mind that many of the volunteers (70 odd) at the recent national were xc/fun rider types. Basically, they're all mountain bikers. It's been the same with XCO, a lot of apathy in terms of events. But the support over the series has been encouraging, as has been the support at the Thaba DHI. If I'm in town, I'll happily help out with some marshaling or something similar.
  13. I feel you! Try shooting a chromed spoked wheel on white back drop and deep etching that! .... Give me Alpe D'huez time 2 any day
  14. Good to see, hopefully this breaks the apathy in getting events together. Especially now that theres also the Thaba course.
  15. Yeah, such an irony on many levels. There's the old saying "races are rarely won on a descent, but they can be lost" Basically, theres risk and theres calculated risk. Berto is a strong climber and has a reputation as a fearless descender. Arguably pushed it a bit yesterday. He's in the top 3 as well and looking to gain, so Froome is certainly going to be on him.
  16. Life must be terrible if this really upsets people.
  17. Well he did race the one Olympics as a Kenyan rider. SA got equally good coverage from Impey too.
  18. Would a Bells do?
  19. Reckon that's dependent on the number of beers drunk or pomps on the bar stool ...
  20. AECI own more than just the land Modders reserve/trail network is on, they also own large tracts of land surrounding the reserve. Apparently the land around the Modders conservation area will be developed over time. One of the unique selling points for prospective housing/business development will be the eco construction of estate type housing and the Modderfontein reserve being an area for conservation, environmental and recreational use. Such as birding, pick nicking, trails etc ...
  21. On the road ... take out the tube, and pomp it. Use your nose... seriously, rotate the tube under your nose. It's the one of the most receptive and sensitive areas to pick up the escaping air and being under your nose can give you the quickest line of sight to the puncture. Without having to turn your head. Alternatively if you don't want to draw stares, have a spare tube on hand and check the tyre with your fingers. Check the punctured tube (inflated) in a basin of water once you get home.
  22. It what it is. I also prefer going somewhere and just buying something without negotiating. That's just me though, there's still plenty folk out there who seem to enjoy the haggle. On the occasion I'm looking for something I'll check Cajees for certain items. In this day and age it's as much upto the consumer to inform themselves a little bit before committing to purchase.
  23. Semantics, 27.5 was a marketing term coined in the US. For all intents and purposes, it's 650b. Which as a wheel sizing standard has been around for about 40 years.
  24. With regard to privacy, exactly what form of privacy is being violated?
