  1. Cycle Junkie, we cross over HP onto side roads not sure if I made that clear?). HP is a nono at almost any time, don't like riding there. But the sideroads are OK (Once you've dealt with Kojack the crazy German Shepherd). My favourite though is to stay off the roads, waaay off the roads on the footpaths (read customised singletrack!)
  2. Hi quinton, Slowpoke and I meet at the BP on JG Strydom at 5am and ride til 6am (20-22km). We ride up to Trade Centre, up Golf Club Terrace to Constantia Drive, across Hendrik Potgieter towards Rock Cottage, and another loop to Lifestyle. You can add a bit extra on the end to make it 1:30.
  3. BG, you're not alone. My right shin seems to take most of my punishment. So far, 2 scars across my shin, one chainwheel scratch new from Saturday, a permanent dent in my thigh from an endo, oh ja, and scars on my shoulder!!
  4. Like the name! My Scott is called Blue Nirvana, very similar frame geometry. Seatpost seems very steep angle, how does she ride?

    MTB Shock

OT, how was Bubba's? I bought a Rockshox Tora from Cajees in Fourways. I needed a 130mm to balance my rear shock, but according to my notes, the Judy was under R2 000 new.MichH2007-03-13 04:09:40

  9. Sheesh BG, that's crazy!! thanks to everyone for a great ride. Thanks to I FLY for taking the faster ones. I think I overdid it a bit, 32km was about 4km too far for our newbie. ewep, has she forgiven us yet?!!
  10. Possibly 8 of us, nice ride. I'm guessing that we'll work out distances and speeds, etc as we go along? Looking to be back by 11, so up to 4 hours of play, should be more than enough time.

  12. STOP FLASHING YOUR TITUS BRILLIANT!!!!
  13. Trouble making up your mind whether to love it or hate it? Go with a Titus, then you can be part of their exclusive group!! Or build a Scott like me, she's my love bike (now now, don't get any funny ideas!)
  14. Id it just the angle, or is it just the front that's a 29'er wheel?

    Running

Sounds like you're not running at tempo or you're not fit enough yet. Stick it out? Hmmm.... someone close to me had an addiction to that green stuff, maybe I can use this to get him out on the bike?!
  16. Mints, you're just always looking for a way to insert one of those pics. Enough already. I will force you as punishment to take my bike riding on forest singletrack (I will be forced to join you to make sure my bike has a rider, wink!)
  17. Oh ja I forgot. Silly funriders!!
  18. thug, you going to Babbas? I have a lunch, so can't make it. Bored girl! You joining us?
  19. It's like cycling, there are those divers who pee in their wetsuits, and those that LIE!!! Thug, are you joining us on Sunday, or is it too slow for you?!
  20. Merlin, go to www.cultcycling.co.za. If technical riding is what you're looking for and you're ok with paying a bit of money for the privilege, Logwood is awesome. Buy a multi pass for R200, will give you just less than 7 weekend visits, i.e. R30 per visit. Here is a description of one of their Blue routes: Fast and furious forest riding at it?s best! As soon as you enter you are in the trees surrounding the <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />North Shore of the dam. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> A left hand bend switches straight back to become a right and then winds through a series of horseshoe bends that lead under the 5 meter bridge that crosses from Dark Side to North Shore (both Experts only areas, but great to watch). You are then led across a bridge of your own that will take you out of the forest and into some grassland before winding under a copse of Seringa trees and then a fast winding downhill back into the forest?in fact into some really dark forest with very large and old trees. What goes down must go back up again, and inevitably the trail leads back into the highveld grassland. From this point on you will begin to encounter mounds and turns, and sometimes both together. After the huge ?Dustbowl Mound? you will be into a younger forest area that will take you onto the dam wall before passing the first exit to Zombie Birdhouse. The route you have travelled to this point is called Zombie Short, and can said to be really a Blue 2. From this point on you are taking on Zombie Long and encountering the Blue 4 in all its glory. After passing the exit for Zombie Short you will cross a sleeper bridge with a drop off exit and pass up onto the dam wall, only to immediately face a hairpin right hander that descends the dam wall on the other side and immediately into dense trees and a dark twisty section of trail. This climbs the dam again through a twisty cut out section and descends the other side in a nasty off-camber diagonal drop. More twists take you back up onto the dam wall, another hairpin takes you down the other side again with a drop off onto a thick root (best to just clear it completely as there isn?t any way to ride on it safely) and into a huge circular berm that sends you up a cut-away onto the dam again. Approach this climb with as much speed as your legs can generate, but remember the drop on the other side to the exit is STEEP.
  21. Merlin, we aren't exactly blessed with forests in Johannesburg! Um, have you been to Logwood as a bike park, or before the bike park?!
  22. Let's put it to the vote. I'm happy to start from a new starting point to try it out (heck, I'm driving there so either which way suits me!) Greymont shopping centre Emmarentia top gate Starting time of 7am is confirmed. Date is definitely Sunday!
  23. Merlin, you can find a number of rides posted here (i.e. the Spruit ride this Sunday). Also, look at Groenkloof and Fountains, Logwood has some beautiful singletrack in a safe environment, Dark and Dirty ride crazy technical singletrack every Thursday night, etc.
