  1. No problemo boet. I agree with you, it's not only about singetrack (although it should be a big part ). All we're saying is, there are guys out there (and there are lots of 'em) who buy mtbikes and never venture into types of terrain that even remotely tests the capabilities of their bikes. And that is just sad, because there's a whole adrenaline filled world just waiting to be explored on these fantastic machines. And if you don't use it, then I'm afraid your just wasting your hard earned mula.
  2. Most of the okes buy a MOUNTAIN bike and then do DIRT ROAD riding with it. I just don't get it. But nou ja, I guess people buy Land Rovers and then they use it for their daily commute to the coffee shop. It's a sick world we live in.
  3. Shussssh Peter! Dammit man, we don't want them all to come here. Erm... to all Vaalies, please ignore Mr Griffin's comments. He is clearly delusional. There is no riding to be had in the Western Cape area. You are much better off riding your local bike parks.
  4. Gotto earn that medal.
  5. Sheesh, suddenly I'm appreciating Cape Town a bit more.
  6. Amen.
  7. Jonkershoek is R220/annum. Pay that with a smile.
  8. Er... good point...apologies, my statement was not well considered. I hope the AM gods will find it in their muddy hearts to forgive such stupidity...
  9. This new Mojo SLR looks lekka. Here's Brian Lopes one.
  10. And Intense please. The new carbon AM bike (think it's called the Carbine) should be there.
  11. Nigel I think some of them will bring there hiking boots and a step ladder.
  12. Phew! But my XC bike is normal QR. Dammit. Will just have to... er... not brake.
  13. Yup, also been using the Reverb. Very happy with it.
  14. Ok dammit, I plead low IQ and 4 years of alcohol abuse at varsity... sheesh you happy now?
  15. Thx Mayhem. It's amazing how the new XT brakes are so much stronger than the old one's. But that's obviously brand new technology doing it's thing. I will have to run 203mm rotors on the old XT's to hopefully get to the same stopping power as the new XT's with 160mm rotors.
  16. Awesomeness! You okes should become teachers!
  17. Just for my own understanding (and appologies, I'm an accountant, not an engineer), so if you put a bigger rotor on, are you actually generating more stopping power, or does it only feel that way, because the force that you need to exert via the brake levers is less to get the same stopping force? Not sure if I'm making sense?
  18. Ah, thank you Professor Patch ! That's the answer I was looking for. Off to the bike shop I go....
  19. Ja cool. Good point. I've got a Fox 36 160mm, so it should be able to handle it.
  20. Awesome will give that a go as well. The problem I have is that my XC bike has the new 2012 XT brakes on and they are significantly stronger than the old XT's. So I want to try to up the stopping power on the old XT's so that they feel more similar.
  21. Cool bananas thx. Re the brake pads, I was actually wondering whether a different brand or compound would provide a bit more "bite"?
  22. I've got the old XT brakes on my AM bike and I want to increase the stopping power a bit. I've got 180mm rotor front and 160mm rotor back. If I change to 203mm rotor front and 180mm (or 203mm) back will that increase stopping power? What about different brake pads?
  23. Ja jeesh, looked awesome.I think in the Cape area between Tokai, Jonkers and Contermanskloof etc we have more than enough trails to almost make a megavalanche series of it.
  24. Cup of coffee and some all bran flakes. And then a banana just before you start the ride. Works for me. The banana gives you an immediate energy source and the all bran flakes will take about an hour or so to start giving you a boost. So a steady flow of energy.
  25. Martin, you must pop in at Recycles in Bellville. JP, the ownner of the shop has that exact same one, but his has Industry 9 wheels and XT set up.
