  1. It's not a pretty trick as such, but so DAMN impressive! Mind = broken
  2. I've recently (about a month ago) went tubeless for the first time, and so far I'm loving it. No big hickups or anything of that nature. I gave my bike a wash with Prepsol and and quickly (with a paintbrush- only used for bike cleaning) brushed the rims/sidewalls with a diluted mixture of 1:1 of Presol:Water before rinsing them. As I popped my bike on the bikestand, I saw that my tyres are blowing bubbles past the bead - and my tyres started losing air. Like the Prepsol is breaking down the seals between bead/rim. No it seems the sealant is not working great anymore, and so I'm going to be taking my wheels off tonight, clean them and re-do the sealant and re-seat the tyres. So - pretty much just a word of warning - apparently sealant and Prepsol does not like one another.
  3. FLOW! Sheesh, mad skill! And that will drain all your energy pumping and floating like that.
  4. Couple of random purchases this week: Parktool workshop stand - bacause its awesome Chain cleaner to use with the stand Rhebokskloof permit - fun trails in my backyard and a surfwatch (not tide watch) - because I seem to lose track of time when I paddle out.
  5. I would try decent quality black nail varnish - do a couple of layers, waiting untill each layer is 100% dry before applying the next. once you've filled the scratches - take 1200 or 2000 grit water paper and just make sure that it's super smooth - sanding it lightly with water, then possibly take a buffing wheel - and lightly buff it.
  6. Until recently it was perfectly fine to have a good feeling for a tight screw or locked bolt, but nowadays all manufacturers are providing torque specifications in their service manuals. The correct torque for bolts and parts are such an important thing, (especially when you have a carbon frame or parts)and I have not been able to find a thread about it, that I thought I'd start one. Basics: Over tightening strips and damages, under tightening causes crashes and creaks. Please add any brand specific info that you have, let's get this thread all info'd up for torque. I would recommend picking up a decent torque wrench if you work on your own bike, if not, stress that your LBS working on your bike conform the the manufacturer's torque specs for your parts and or frame. Here's the Parktool guidelines in PDF. http://www.parktool....blog/torque.pdf And some Parktool Torque related info: http://www.parktool....ns-and-concepts
  7. Rhebokskloof trails - super views, excellent singletrack.
  8. edit - due to not focussing - sorry! Enjoy the new bike!
  9. unless you take it to a bikeshop that has a paint connection, i dont think I would trust someone from a powdercoat or spraypainter to dissasemble and re-assemble my bike... Rather chat to a bikeshop to get a good price on the tear down and rebuild, and then let them sommer service/clean everything whilst its in bits, and retune your gears as they rebuild, then you have a new looking an feeling bike when they're done. You can get the frame/fork painted when they've finished the teardown. Make sure you go to a trustworthy shop though, as parts can easily dissapear into the used parts heap in the back of the store if the guy tearing it down does'nt know to keep everything in one box - possibly provide a well marked box. If you drop off the frame/fork, have a chat to your preferred powdercoater/painter and make sure that they are aware of what parts should not get sandblasted or have paint on them - things like BB, headset - any threads etc. you may have to tape up or vaseline parts that should not be painted. Ask your LBS for advice - they've probably had this exact request more than once before, maybe they can handle everything.
  10. You just want us to stare at the picture real long before you go: September fools! right? It looks like the headset top cap is missing (not the steerer tube top cap - the one keeping the bearing race in check) - but tbh, the photo is too blurry to make out, and I can't spot anything else - other than for typcial wisecracks - like the rotational arrow on your rear tyre is obviously pointing back - can see it from space...
  11. Give Olympic Cycles a call - they've given my riding partner a great deal on an Anthem 29er 2014 and excellent after sales service. - seriously good value. Also King's Cycles in Worcester had excellent prices - as well as Ceres Cycles.
  12. so, nothing then? unluckies.

  14. Maybe a bit more info would be good - what axles do you need on the rimset - 15 TA or QR front? In regards to casette and brake rotors - (sprocket and discs ) you can buy them easily enough. Your budget for everything together may lend itself to a secondhand combo rather than a new setup. May have to buy road tyres, and a set of rims with casette and rotors on them from someone -deals like that come on the hub often - keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds or put a wanted add up.
  15. Give us some feedback post this whole thing going down! How and where were the guys caught? Whom was involved - syndicate or one guy acting alone? Organised or parts for money for tik scenario? Have you located your frame? How did you locate the perp - as a result of this thread? When, where and how did your bike get stolen? We see more than enough grim stories on here everyday, and then the one time there is a glimmer of hope you deprive us of the juicy details. comeeee on!
  16. You should have seen the congestion - no way you could ride, just too many people all going at snails pace. Frustrating, but still not too bad considering how many people were on the trails at the same time.
  17. Eyes on this thread!
  18. What a fun race! Did the 42 and lost a valve just before the 22km mark - a good samaritan - Bertus (riding a Scott FS 26 - didnt get his surname) spotted me a tube, and I could finish the race. Good peoples MTB'ers.
  19. Sheesh man, this is so rediculous! I can't believe guys pull crap like this. Blatant fraud. I'm all for turning the other cheek, but not when paying for "new" bike parts at what is still even at discount prices, top dollar.
  20. That does look awesome. May be a bit of a concern keeping that pocket clean and mud cleared... Would love to feel it on some rough singletrack.
  21. I agree with getting bikeshops in on the deal - stellenbosch has quite a few including Specialized HQ if I'm not mistaken. Surely these guys know that this is damaging their business and should be stepping in. Could be massive publicity for a shop also if they could have a hand in stopping or at least lessening this stuff's occurance, especially if some of the perps could be prosecuted, and some of the stolen bikes/equipment returned. I'd love to stumble onto the cache of bikes and gear that's been stolen in and around stellies the last couple of years, or at least know whats happening to everything as loads of these bikes and parts are very specific and would be easily spotted - it never pops up again on Gumtree or at Cash crusaders - not even spotted being ridden by shady characters...

  23. Hey guys, I forgot to put it up earlier. Saturday morning a Fortuner pulled out of the parking lot around 11 or 12 am and two parts dropped off his bike rack. - as per the photo. Could not catch up to him - car driving vs me on my spd shoes... Let me know. Cheers
