  1. 50%!!!!, Get Record and SR shifters then...
  2. Super Record shifters are much more refined than Record. AFAIK the crank is also "stiffer" and uses ceramic bearings (and there is the option) to have Ti-axle. Shifter feel is different, but Record is very good already - so I suppose it is weight vs price...
  3. Not my own, but I love this...
  4. PM or call Cycleboutique, I know he has just built a Lefty onto a Scott Scale and onto some fancy Ti rig a few motnhs ago.
  5. I agree. IM is one day probably equal to about day three/four on the gatvol/miserable/sore scale, but then it is over. I would rather ride Epic than comrades though. Have run a few marathons and I can hardly think about running double that distance without wanting to burst into tears...
  6. I was in one of the trees on the Oude Kwaremont, the statement above is 100% accurate! What a day...saw very little of the race (they passed 3x) but the atmosphere was truly something special.
  7. I guess - might need to recalibrate the HR belt every morning then
  8. Organisers always have chargers available, usually a big table with 100's of Garmins
  9. With the cost of labour in the UK, probably worth you fitting the UST's yourself...It costs about GBP50 (labour only) at most bikeshops (I am not kidding). They won't ship Mavic to SA. Be very sure you get the correct axle diameter, I know of someone who got that wrong a while ago and could do nothing witht the wheels...

    Which one?

No duties to the Mud Island just northeast of you...

    Which one?

I don't own a car, but why do you ask?
  12. While I am no fan o'the Lab - this is what life is about! Well done AM and CL! Now if i had the means I would do something along these lines for David Kinja and Davidson Kamau - the pair that came 2nd at J2C 2010...
  13. So I am about to buy a new MTB. I was dead set on a Scalpel 29er 2, and would not cater the thought of another bike. But I have had a rational moment and realised that I would probably use the bike 15-20 rides a year only. So is it worth it to spend about R40k on a bike which will see so little use? The easy answer is obviously to trim that down to a Flash 29er 2/3 then, which is a wad of cash cheaper, and still quite capable, I bet. But then to mix things up a bit I stumbled onto this - http://www.canyon.com/_uk/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2547 at about R20k for a complete bike, with pretty reaonable spec... Oh and of course there are the niners, saw and held a Jet9 RDO on the weekend, wow! Which one do you reckon I should go for?
  14. Do all you oes in the Cape cycle alone? Safety in numbers...
  15. If you willing to pay a bit more - look no further than The Crank shop in Groenkloof...
  16. I just remembered that I used a third party agent (the good eventually went with DHL I think) to send a massive box of audio equipment to a fellow hubber a few months ago, they were quite a bit cheaper than most others. http://www.interparcel.com/ Issue is the "volumetric" weight of a frame. To whoever asked about On-one, its a bike shop, not a shipping company. Have you already bought the frame, and now need to send it? If all else fails, contribute to my flight costs and I'll fly it out over a weekend for you...
  17. I live in the UK and that sounds about right - GBP250. Can't think of a cheaper way.
  18. Oh yes, the most cost effective way is to fly it to SA in a passenger aeroplane as checked in luggage... But that way it has to be delivered in the UK, and you'll pay 20% VAT. If you buy it second hand, get someone to fly it out for you.
  19. The shops have "bulk accounts" with Royal Mail and other shipping companies. Wiggle turnover is about GBP600m if I remember correctly. They qualify for a bit better rate because of that...
  20. So does Look and Polar. Mr Look shoudl be able to give details. The cost is the barrier though - I think the system is about R20k...

    CWC Service

Richer sounds, awesome and knowledgeable staff at all their branches. Thir business model is "steck'em high, sell 'em cheap" They have grown significantly since then, but still same service, same small shops, same big storerooms at the back and same friendly staff. Don't know about the stickers though...Good story
  22. Each has its place I think, and I'm with Christie, there may well be scope for a Knysna to Cape Town type event, but then there is the J2C, whihc is very hard to beat. I am doing this in June - http://eng.mtbtrophy.webworld.pl/?expander=0:354:1 I admit its only 4 days, but start and finishes the saem place every day -hotel accomodation already booked. I am a fan of a tent, but those porta loss after a couple of days... I would also love to do Epic again, but to me R35k for an entry is just a bit steep...
  23. 25 year old union members are a tad more expensive than 6 year old kids to hire, and the economies of scale (no pun intended) are in the favour of Scott. I don't think it should necessarily be cheaper because it manufactured locally. We all know that bulk shipping is no longer the enormous cost that it used to be... Oh yes, ride both and then decide. Buy with your heart, which one will make you want to ride? Edit - forgot to add on topic comment
  24. Dangle is practically in Pretoria, he is definitely your man... Where is the like button for the pic above?
  25. And on a Guantanamo painted Pegoretti! Where is the like button?
