I have this exact thought every time i'm forced to veer off the cycle track to avoid a car parked in it. My only fear is that one day I act on this thought..
Yesterday my bike took me to an incredible breakfast thrown together at a moments notice by Mrs DJR for 6 very disappointed but always hungry cyclists. DJR, I know you have photographic evidence of this so please be so kind as to share.
My commute is around the same %'s road / dirt as yours and also on a 26'HT. I normally use mtb tyres (Larsen TT back, Slant 6 front) but have also used semi slicks. The difference using the semi slicks is huge wrt times and effort with just a little more care required when off the road. Give it a try if you can.
Also went there for the first time on Sunday. A friend took me and junior for the loop up to the Greek Church on the hill. We were both very impressed with the trails and will definitely be back when in the area again . I even enjoyed it so much that i took the time to have a little "lie down" on a tricky little rocky descent.
