  1. Got caught by the exposed root next to the big tree just after the tight left turn next to the tree. I could normally just roll it or "plop" over it but not this time. Unfortunately no GoPro footage but i did have an audience from the road that really seemed to appreciate it.
  2. No, the bottom section of My roots. Got a broken helmet and a few more aches and pains to remember it by.
  3. And after going properly OTB a little further down the hill, decided that we're getting too old to be trying stuff like this. Leave it up to the youngsters.
  4. You still can, he's a regular on KFM and 567 Cape Talk.
  5. The wimpy dude is Deon Bing. Well known personality in Cape Town.
  6. Yup, been there. An incredible place. Wasn't quite sure where to look first. Much like a kid in a candy shop.
  7. Thanks Wyatt, 22 minutes of my lunch hour very well spent.
  8. Thanks for the chilled ride this afternoon. Lekka to be out on the bike after such a long layoff.
  9. I like the way your boots are on standby for when the water gets a little too shallow.
  10. Very nice, top of Lion's Head in Cape Town. Got a similar pic with my family sitting on the same rock. Looks very impressive from this angle, but not so scary in reality.
  11. Yup! We're waiting...
  12. Not sure what it is that you found but this is what i did when i found a Bryton GPS which resulted in me tracking down the owner. Maybe if it's an electronic thingy you can do the same. So one day whilst cycling in Tokai I picked up a Bryton GPS that had clearly fallen off someones bike. I left my name at the trail entrance as well as at the TMP office but no luck with anyone claiming it. I then approached the local bike shop and left my details there - still no luck. As a last resort I went online onto the Bryton South Africa website and made contact with the agent. I gave him the serial number and they could track the owner. 20 minutes later, the very happy owner phoned me to claim his GPS. Turned out that he was from JHB and was in Cape Town for the weekend and went for a ride with his brother (who lives in CT) when he lost the GPS. Searched for it for hours before giving it up for lost. His brother collected it from me the next day. Felt really good that i could return it to it's rightful owner.
  13. Yeah! Those euro's know how to stock up with wood for the winter.
  14. Can't wait to get on my bike again. Been off the darn thing far too long due to injury. Really miss the early morning cycle to work.
  15. Unfortunately that is a true statement
  16. I broke my bike half way through stage 1 of another 3 day event (not the same one as mentioned in a previous post). I ended up riding said farm gate, but boy was i grateful for the loan of that gate and it turned out to be surprisingly good...
  17. I broke my bike one week before my first multi stage MTB race. I was in a flatty to say the least! I'd put in hours of training, serviced said bike, purchased a spare derailleur hanger, spare tubes etc for the bike and now it was broken with no hope of it being repaired before the event. I ended up hiring a bike from my LBS just for the event. I put my saddle and peddles on it and got it the day before the event. To make things more interesting, my bike was a 26er and the hired bike was a 29er. This would be the first time in my life that i would swing my leg over a 29er. I went for a quick 30km installation spin before packing up everything for the event. What followed was 3 days of awesome riding. It took me about an hour on the first day to get comfy on the bike and then it was like i was riding my old bike. So to answer your question, hire it, try it out and if you like, buy it.
  18. That is a stunning looking bike..
  19. Is that a dropper post I see there? Sneaky!!
  20. Yup, do it all the time.
  21. If I had the cash for this, I would buy it in a heartbeat...
  22. That has turned out incredibly well Crow! Well done.
  23. One of the greatest sports photo's ever taken, IMHO.
  24. I had one of these on my commuting bike. Tended to scare the &*%# out of walkers/runners especially when approaching from behind.
  25. Classic! Definitely something for the memory banks.
