A while ago I asked somebody involved in cattle feeding about Clenbuterol. He was slightly taken aback when I asked him if he uses it in his cattle feed. " Everybody does " was his answer."Nothing illegal, nothing under the table. " The product is supposed to be withdrawn from feed 5 days before slaughter. And this was the point that I was trying to make on another thread: You can be sure that some farmers who in peak times need to deliver animals to abattoirs, do not always do this. So I'm saying that we are eating Clenbuterol animals more often than we think. If Contador was telling the truth ,hundreds of SA sportspeople would by now have tested positive for this drug. THE AMOUNT IN A STEAK IS JUST TOO SMALL TO BE FOUND IN YOUR BLOOD.

I think the guy you saw was Andries Scheepers . I looked this up in results because he and Ernst van Dyk caught M group just after Boyes drive. Now and then drafting but mostly trying to get through the bunch. They were going like machines. The riders around them were in awe.It just puts a bit of perspective on our own achievements.

This is very bad news . For the past eight weeks I've done the route on Wednesdays. Almost alone , just about no traffic. It's quiet, the scenery is amazing . For me this is road cycling heaven on earth. I've stopped and picked up GU ,Powerbar and other wrappers on the route as well as in the car park.But I have also noticed bottles and stuff that were not dropped by cyclists. I also agree that our gate money must make quite a large portion of their takings. Something tells me that litter is not the only reason and that if you were to dig deeper you would find the staff do not like having cyclists around . That thing called cyclists attitude .RIGHT OR WRONG I'M NOT BLAMING ANYBODY.The litter is a red herring. It's a problem in all parks. Can we do something about it ? Is possible to get a delegation to go see their management? Can we try and clean up ?I will get friends together and do it if it will help our cause . I think it's serious enough for Gauteng cycling to get involved

Million dollar question . We are a rather loose arrangement of cyclists and we are not divided into slow med etc. In general .Fast in front slow to the back. Long and short . The split happens at the robot near the Lido hotel. A few kms from the start Long carries on straight with the R 82 towards Walkerville . Short goes left through to the R59. An idea is to pitch up and do the short.Look things over talk to the guys. Edit. I see that I had finger trouble and actually posted two identical threads. E mailed admin to remove one .

Thanks Trubie. I have done . Lots of groups, friends,clubs riding from Swartkoppies and Kliprivier drive . With the numbers we have lets keep this thread going. The chirps , the humour ,how the rides went ,who's riding where . Who got dropped. Who's flying. For those who don't know : 7 am Sat & Sun . Parking at Rietvlei near the start . In the Vaal the Metro police are dishing out road safety flyers urging cyclists to amongst other things, ride on the "right " side of the road. Weet nie of dit die regterkant of regte kant is nie.

A friend in the feedlot industry tells me that Clenbuterol is used by just about everybody that feeds cattle. It has to be withdrawn from the feed 5 days before slaughter. With peaks in the demand as it happens over December , Easter and month ends you can be assured that this is not always the case. If Contador was telling the truth it means that at least a few SA cyclists and other athletes that had steak before a race should all test positive. As far as I know this hasn't happened. My "source" was told by a vet that you would have to eat a whole ox for it to show in your blood.

The "thank you" wave to motorists should be part of all our rides. It costs nothing and buys goodwill.

We had a fight. A real one. Mixed group CL DL EL. Cruising along Rondebult at about 85 km mark . Two guys start bumping each other . One guy falls , other guy stops . Fists start flying. Both on the ground wrestling ,hitting. Group carried on . Don't know who won. Nice race .
