  1. Investigating officer to the rookie cop : " I don't like the smell of this."
  2. One month ago . Same same.
  3. https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/185534-apex-bicycles/ I found this . Previous posts on Apex. I don't know the brand myself but it seems to fall somewhere between a "real" mountain bike and a Makro special. Look for 2nd hand here on the HUB. If you ask for advice people here will gladly point you in the right direction. You may even find new entry level hardtails being discounted as the 2023 models come in. Edit : Reading through the whole thread again there are some divided opinions. Ja... well ...maybe.
  4. Your's for the front and they can get mine for the back . Talk about blocking valves !
  5. I think that same auntie and the laptop goes to Hartenbos for December holidays.
  6. And they stick to the ship's deck.
  7. I don't like the taste of most drinks . So in a race I would double the dope bottle and then drink water only inbetween. On rides one spoon. But then I'm not a racing snake.
  8. I'm guessing that you are so worried about the whole carb fluid per hour thing that you are drinking too much. For us midpack okes it's overrated. Cut some of the fluid before the race . Pee just before the start. One bottle with your dope in , one with water. See how it goes. If you struggle or it's very hot grab a sachet or stop at a WP. Keep a bar and a gel close. Practise on your training rides and see what works for you.

    Attakwas 2022

In Afrikaans there's a saying "Hy het sy Moses teegekom." Attempt no 5 ended at WP 2. I went about a km up the climb and knew that I was going to get stuck in no man's land. I turned around. My only consolation was that I waited for my lift with some multiple Epic finishers and guys who completed the Atta in August and were fit and ready for this one. A friend joked that his palmares will one day say 4 Epics and no Atta. All who finished yesterday deserves the biggest respect . Well done.
  10. Where the start is now on there is actually no construction taking place and they've put down gravel so no mud there. You also don't go through the construction site at all if you get the route right. When you arrive you go in at the new robot, up to the circle and the trails are on your right. You do not have to enter the booms or anything. Just a mention in case all the talk of construction and mayhem may put cyclists off from going.
  11. Went today. Quite a climb to start with. I missed the red arrow. Did the whole green, and from the tracks some others did as well. Construction site small gate out into the street back to the start. Gave it another go. Saw some other cyclists followed them for a shortcut to the finish. That last part is good. Sorry about the fall. Heal up quick. I stopped to take a photo and this little duiker walked right up to me. Turned around and walked away.
  12. Got dropped of near the venue. Had a nice get together with my clubbies . We all started in F. Got dropped by my pals almost immediately after the start. Few of us found a nice group all the way to Kayalami. There I had to make a pitstop . Then a few kms further I stopped to greet my sister . Found my pal on top of Jan Smuts. Rode past my old school where I started standard six fifty years ago. From there my mate pulled me home all the way in 3.21. My club mates had absolutely no remorse for dropping me, but made it up with boerie rolls and beers. The stadium is awesome. From my side the event was well organised. As far as the route goes, I think the logistics and effort of closing off numerous crossings outweighs the scenery that may be gained. I had a nice day.
  13. It contains something called Flouride.

    Attakwas 2022

I've entered for my 5th. First was 2016 . Skipped '19 and '20. I am right at the back. Due to an injury in August my fitness is well below what is needed . We holiday in the area from mid Dec. So I'm hoping to do some hills on the roads behind Grootbrak and Mosselbay.
  16. I'm wondering for how long race no collection will last in the future. I feel for blokes who need to sell some product . But to make a rule that no bulk collections will be allowed in these times is not very clever. With the worries about Covid collecting in bulk makes sense . What is better . Putting people into time slots or one person just collecting twenty packs ? And how many may we collect, two maybe three ? Some people or clubs from far away only arrive on the evening of the race. Will somebody be allowed to collect for them ? It's just a race pack and a number. Online please. Thanks for entering, here's your voucher. Collect your bottle, deodorant and vitamins at Dischem at your own leisure. See you at the start.
  17. I can tell you a very long story here. A lot of Robert Whitehead's post applies to my situation. Please if you can. Go see a chiro in Bedfordview called Brian Dallas. It is worth just listening and getting an opinion. He is not anti dr. or surgery, but will refer you to the RIGHT DR. FOR THE JOB. If you need it. 38 Years ago I was booked for a fusion of L5 and 6. Then somebody referred me to him. I had already been to another chiro without success. He said that one day I may need surgery, and he will refer me if needed. That day hasn't arrived yet. My back still bites me badly every now and then. Between him and a physio and my own stretching regime I'm still riding . (Against his will.) This is my story. Your Situation may be totally different Whatever you decide . Strongs.
  18. May you have a speedy recovery Robbie. A month ago I had a slip at at my local trail . What should have been just a grazed knee ended up as two broken ribs. I fell on the round end of the handle bar, no. 2 and 3 costals snapped. It hurt so bad. On my hands and knees all I could think of was, "don't pass out ,they will find you and phone your wife." Edit: My family says I use every opportunity to tell people I fell. Thanks for the cue , and may things work out . The partners worry about us. You will think of something nice to make it up.
  19. I was looking at these numbers and wondering why this would be acceptable to the UCI and the countries that send riders. A number of countries sent only one rider and then he cannot or does not finish. Russia 5/6 , Ireland 3/3, Colombia 6/8, South Africa 4/4 not making it to the end. Unless there's a crash or something just get yourself over the line. If I got sent to the world champs as a no hoper by my country , I would at least want to tell my friends, family and the cycling boss that I made it to the end. What am I missing ?
  20. The videos won't load . Are you in SA at the moment ? That looks just like the Jonkersberg forestry rd that connects to the road along the mountain .
  21. Are we seeing a bit of the old Meintjies? Lets hope that there were some discussions at the breakfast table.. " Hey Odd, pass the sugar, and if those legs go tell me sooner than later please ."
  22. It could get worse . Valverde with his grandchildren ......
