  1. I am looking forward to it .The translations should be interesting. In the past the academics would think up translations that sounded heavy and pompous and cumbersome , for the sake of having an Afrikaans word for something. And the way in which words can be strung together in our language does not always help. Skokbrekerpompdeflasiemeganisme. Wat noem ons cleats in Afrikaans ? En goed is net soms makliker in Engels. "Ek ry nou met flats" Koning van die berg. Die bergkoning. In Engels KOM. Hom moet ons maar vertaal. As 'n dame uit die bondel wegbreek en sy is eerste oor die bult , dan , uhm .......Nee . gaan nie werk nie. Maar dan is dit eintlik QOM ek dink nie mooi nie
  2. I can vouch for these people. My daughter worked for them until recently. They save many, many children that would've fallen through the cracks. Kids that had no chance in life get through school . They help them find jobs , many go on to study and have good careers. They help repair the damage brought on by dysfunctional families and society.
  3. Some backs need ops some don't. My story and advice if I may 37 Years ago at age 26 I suddenly had severe pain. Back, left leg , the whole thing . I drank 12 Syndols a day. I see a specialist . Herniated disc L5 and 6. Fusion only option. Co worker suggests a chiro. A very specific one. Chiro explains problem. Sacrum sticky on the left. It doesn't move forward when I bend ,so the discs pop . Fuse 5 and 6 and you will end up fusing more because of the underlying problem. He told me that I may need surgery in the future and HE will send me to a doctor. That was almost 36 years ago. Every few years my back bites me again. I had to cancel almost all my races last year. I could hardly walk. X rays tells me my discs are gone and my posture bad. Visit same chiro and a feisty physio and I get better to about 70-80%. This can take up to a month or six weeks If I may . Get all the opinions but delay the op as long as you can. Find the root cause and try and work on that with stretches , yoga whatever you may find will work. I got specific exercises from the physio and chiro . My wife found a book with stretches for cyclists. I added some that may help me, but you must understand your specific problem to select what will work for you . Trial and error and know your new limits , a bit of luck and you may just get by without the op. I'm trying not to give an absolute opinion of this is good and that is bad. Good luck. I hope you get better. Edit: Physio recommended that I see a Bio for specific exercises , which I didn't but should. Chiro reckons the best thing for a back is to lie flat on a carpet , a small pillow under your head . Put your lower legs on a chair or table parallel to the floor ,so your back and thighs are at 90 deg. Arms at your side. Relax for 20 min or so. Repeat often.
  4. Way after my time. Mental note : Check out ,add to playlist.
  5. I haven't listened to this for a while . A band that always put a lot of effort into their videos. But I'm biased . The guy on bass is a relative.
  6. Thanks . And my apologies too. My reply was a bit edgy.
  7. Sorry, I'm not sure what you are trying to explain? It's pretty obvious she was sitting in front of the TV with her nerves buggered for the sake of her son's performance. Not related to the eNCA report at all in any way. Kelly thought it was the quote of the tour and I think it's very funny. That's it really.
  8. A bit further down in that thread somebody quoted Sean Kelly on Eurosport : " Sammy B's mom messaged me before the intermediate sprint , saying she had an easier time in labour than she's having now."
  9. As it is after work it depends on how long you want to stay out for. Here is a map that will give you some idea. One or two places that show dirt have now been tarred. And the road past Botlierskop has been closed. There are some very nice routes . https://www.visitmosselbay.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Cycling-Mossel-Bay.pdf
  10. Lekker man! That old Telefunken was built in Booysens in the deep South of Jo'burg in the seventies.
  11. A while ago I just couldn't get going with things that I had to do around the house. My wife's reply : "Just pretend you're preparing for a bike race."
  12. Posted on 31July
  13. I remember thinking that we must have brushed shoulders at the Grand Depart last year. My son knew that seeing a stage of a Grand Tour was bucket list stuff for me. So when we visited them in the Netherlands he organised the trip to Belgium. Not being an experienced world traveler I was worried about what we would be able to see. After all it was a very big event in a world city. So we parked underground early and as we came up into the street , there was Trek Segafredo's bus right in front of me. The riders, the bikes, the works. And I knew we were all right. I took it all in. We watched the Depart and then back to Waterloo to see the peloton go by. Back to Brussels the next day for the time trial. I managed to get this pic.
  14. Happy 78th Sixto Rodriques.
  15. What we need on this thread is a button that says or means "This is not really my thing but I like that you like."
  16. Do you know the Blockhouse Engen filling station on the R59 to Vereeniging? Its about a km or two South from there. Daleside off ramp from R59 south. The circus tent that was visible from the highway has been taken down. Race for Victory starts here. Used as a pit stop by cyclists for all sorts of rides. There is a restaurant. Beer , coffee, pizzas etc. And nice trees and space for the children to play. Nice also to do a group ride from there through SBR (enter south gate) and back. Maps : Cafe du Cirque. See Ben beat me to it. It's nice there.
  17. Those of us who are old enough to remember The Stranglers and their hit Golden Brown . I came upon this yesterday and first thought that my eyes and ears were deceiving me. It's a tribute to Dave Greenfield, keyboardist with the group, and a victim of Covid 19 early in May. It is actually Dave Brubeck's Take Five, live from the '60's. It was done by a sax player ( and boffin with sound editing by the looks of it) ,Laurence Mason. Overplaying parts and fiddling with things on a computer.
  18. The music is spot on . I've never heard of this guy. But then, music wise I've been living under a rock for the last 40 years. Very nice to watch.
  19. I still have a "life" membership of Health and Racket Club. It's over move on. Edit: the racket had a fancy "q" in it somewhere . Gone , Finish en klaar.
  20. If you live in Alberton you can cross into the Johannesburg Metro and Sedibeng District Mun. (Midvaal ) in minutes . A ride of forty kms , three districts.
  21. Speaking of remakes....
  22. And this one just a bit more oomph than the Black Sabbath original. I thought I recognised it. I Had to dig back 47 years.
