  1. Not that keen to spend R12K, but am keen on a computer one. The Tacx I-Magic seems to sell for around R6K. Is that any good?
  2. I am keen to get an Indoor Trainer and I think the way to go is to get one that links to the PC so I can ride simulated routes etc. in order to try and keep it interesting. Any advice on which unit to purchase? Where I should get it from? And anything else I should consider? Thanks!
  3. 16:00
  4. Pack a couple of those Ryder sidewall plasters. if you cut those paper thin RR Evo sidewalls then a tube is not really going to help you.
  5. I don't think Domestique is agreeing with you. You say Day 5 stop (Glengarry) was *** and he is talking about the farm we stayed on Day 6. Ps: The coffee was fantastic 101SCC. Well done!
  6. Hi Brad, I was there and that sign was only relevant to the race village where there was food, coffee, cooldrinks, wifi etc. all for free. It was not applicable to the finish line where supporters could definitely gather for free. Personally I think it is fair enough - I saw too many riders going up to the food stations multiple times at other stopovers to get plates of food for family and/or supporters without paying extra. That just makes it more expensive in the long run for us riders.
  7. You may not have problems but those RR Evo sidewalls are paper thin and I personally wouldn't want to risk a sidewall cut. Having said that, my partner rides them most events and hasn't had an issue as yet.
  8. You will have enough time every day after you finish to dry your towel and shoes (if necessary) using the tent ropes as a makeshift washing line. The only thing in the tents are two mattresses and they give it a quick "once over" to ensure it is clean for the next guys coming in.
  9. Nobody worries about checkpoints at Sani, least of all the organisers. Ride with someone strong and let them push you up all the hills on Day 2!
  10. Easton Carbon wheelset
  11. Just pulling your leg GT1. My training has been hovering around the 10hr a week as well.
  12. See you at Joberg2C. Not sure 10 hours a week is enough though!
  13. Bottom line is for 90% it is still going to be tough and even a completed 3 day stage race for the average working guy is a great achievement. For the top 10% whether they complete the stage in 4hours or 4:15 is probably immaterial. There are plenty races which are a sufferfest for those who are that way inclined I.e. Epic, Attakwas, 361 etc.
  14. Unless you are going to the States, it is not worth the risk and effort and you won't save much buying in Dubai or Singapore.
  15. Try Bridge Cyles in Diepriver. They have all the models and Mark will sort you out with a good price.
  16. That's just the point... Who says it is cool? If you ride your bike with your Epic sticker and your Argus Sub 3 bib and shirt, does that make it even cooler?
  17. It's amazing how may people leave that Epic sticker on their top tube for months after the event. Reminds me of that joke: Q: How do you know if someone has done the Epic? A: Don't worry they will tell you
  18. Santa Cruz Tallboy is definitely shorter than normal. It is the smallest "Large" I have ridden, if that makes sense.
  19. Two things... I think if you shop around you could build up the Tallboy cheaper than the prices you have mentioned. Secondly I looked very closely at bikes in this category and concluded the Spez Epic Expert Carbon 29 was the best buy. With a few upgrades you could have an awesome racing machine with all the SWorks tech for less than 50K.
  20. The single track from around the 50 km mark was some of the toughest I have ever ridden. Thought I was going over the bars a few times.
  21. Did this race this morning. The course was way tougher than I thought would be. Felt like the climbing was never ending.
  22. I think the R1 brakes are great but the lever looks a bit outdated. I think XTR trail is the way to go for good looks and super performance.
  23. I love the Tallboy, but I have just pulled the trigger on a Spez Epic so going to give that a whirl for the time being. The Tallboy is a Large.
  24. What size are you? I have a low weight full sus carbon Tallboy coming up for sale around your price range. Best of both worlds!
  25. Don't you find the clingwrap a bit chewy?
