  1. yeah i had a look, their prices are insane! but alas no sizing ---
  2. yeah so would a new 900g frame or ooh ooh a set of lightweight tubulars or oooh how about that new santa cruz carbon 29er to play with ... let's be realistic here, im looking at something good enough to do the job at a reasonable price - as much as id like to rush out and order the top end ergos (which are but F*cken bling i must say ) thats not gonna happen. maybe wait and save until the holes are a bit bigger in my current sidis then try and organise the ergo 2s ? 1hill@aTime - im liking the look of those!
  3. any thoughts on Northwave? particularly the SBS models?
  4. Hi All im looking to replace my faithful pair of SIDI road shoes that have seen their last few km's - not sure of the model but they came out the year oscar freire won his first world champs (his signiature model with the world cup stripes n wotnot) soles have that metal tensioner thingy and the buckle on top with 2 ratchets. needless to say , shoe tech has changed quite a lot since and im a bit lost as to what to look for in a new pair of shoes? i ride / race quite hard and obviously need something with a nice stiff sole and at least one buckle at the top to keep the heel in place when climbing / sprinting ... any suggestions or models i can look at? id like to keep it under R2k if possible..... does it really need to have a carbon sole? are multiple ratchets / buckles necessary? ive been looking at the sidi genius 5s for example - but seems nobody has sizing (45) and something like the ergo 2's / 3's are just a ripoff. thanks
  5. he ended up carrying his bike over the line at 3h01.
  6. i feel worse for the guy i had to elbow in the back to prevent going endo! hahaha glad to see i wasnt the only one who had to make emergency stops... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/113924-argus-2012-bad-luck-stories/page__st__16
  7. his name is Mohamed Hassen a very promising young rider from JHB (from the Esmero club - rides with us in A bunch at a lot of the races ) he was riding really strong at the front of the B race - and was on track for his first argus sub 3 when he was taken out in that crash on the finishing straight - (someone went down in front of him) . his back rim snapped and he broke multiple spokes on the front wheel too. a pity - cos il tell you there were loads of okes huffing n puffing trying to hang onto his wheel up those climbs. better luck next year bud.
  8. the green ones are boss!
  9. that B grp was one of the most nervous, twitchy bunches ive ever raced with! had to put my foot down twice before we even got onto the blue route! thank gooodness things clamed down a bit once most of the guys got popped off the back up smitswinkel
  10. I was hit by a 16 wheeler truck in 2004 and my MET stradivarius saved my life. awesome , awesome lid....
  11. For 3 hrs... be in Simonstown on the hour noordheok at 2hrs get to top of Suikerbossie around 2h35-2h40 put your head down, say a little prayer and give it the Big ring!
  12. i would like to, but i read recently you can get a ban if you do? Im starting in B so should be done by 9h30 or so and then want to ride with my bro at 9h50 odd. obviously i will take off my chip for round 2
  13. no, the look pedals don't work with SPD-SL (shimano) Cleats
  14. Mr min works like a bomb.
  15. Cycle Lab - Blue / White Silverback
  16. luckily i narrowly avoided that rider going down in the dip and held on through the chase back to the bunch. It was at around 65kms as we were leaving heidelberg that i was dropped. Rode solo for round 7/8 kms when you guys picked us up at around the 75km mark. Was a good effort to keep the pace high, thanks to the 3/4 guys that were actually working on the front (especially the gentleman in the edenvale kit / sram deepsections) and not just getting towed along until 500m from the carnival gates.
  17. What great race! very well organised, marshalled and i love the signs telling you how far still to go... a little tougher than i expected with the undulating terrain (i got popped off the back of the lead A bunch just outside heidelberg) but happy with my time none-the-less @ 2hrs33min *only gripe is that the start/finish was a little far from the parking for the spectators (my old man at 63 with his bum hip couldnt watch the winners sprints etc... same story as last week at the burning dale) but ja, otherwise a great event. Congrats to the organisers!
  18. i vote super shortcut - we had 2 guys from FL that magically appeared in our bunch (AL) about 5 kms into the cradle after the intersection where the short route joined us. and the guys were definitely struggling to hold on before they got popped off the back about ten minutes later.
  19. is this the same route as Dome 2 Dome last year (aside from hillsnacks in the beginning )?
  20. i have been using a pair of the 105 pedals (to match my groupset) for ages, no problem. Some people have issues with the way the shimano pedals hang when unclipped which makes it a little tricker to clip in sometimes though... ( they dont sit level like the more balanced look's for example) but ja for the price, they are light enough and do the job they're designed to do, they are just pedals after all.
  21. Ive been vegetarian for 12 years , as long as you are not too anal about it, ie you still eat eggs / dairy , youll be fine dude. I found once i started racing higher categories a / b for example i battled with recovery a bit. So i started taking a protein drink once or twice a day depending on training intensity (an extra 22 odd grams per serving along with all the BCAA's etc... you get in recovery drinks) and all was sorted. Biogen do one called iso whey - that stuff is is the bizness. Try stay away from processed stuff like too much cheese , and eat lots of green veg... the biggest challenge is variety and obviously the convenience factor (your options will be limited at restaurants etc...) but think of it this way, 90% of ppl base their meals around the big 5 (Lamb,Pork,Beef,Fish,Chicken) , yet there are 3000+ other things you can eat to get the same nutrition as well. Hit the google, There's a a lot of info out there.
  22. edge 500 fo' sho! integrates with so many platforms on both mac and pc - from sportracks to GTC to rubitrack (mac) and more, as well as online sites such as strava, fittrack, garmin connect, endomondo etc... best thing i ever bought for my cycling. Like Heman said, if you need the maps to show you where to go then get the 800, otherwise both track your route and can be overlaid on google maps etc... after the ride.
  23. big shouts to the gentleman in the black/white kit with the mavic cosmics as well, MACHINE!!!
