  2. ja.........it's because the smartie phone pics up you are on the strand the whole time..............
  3. Baie sterkte @*Reinet* Marais Ons dink aan julle in ons gebede. Francois se stories en opgewektheid en entosiasme en positiwiteit gaan baie gemis word.
  4. This will be my 10 one. Aiming to break my PB at 1034km for the 8 days. The weather always plays a huge roll in this. If you cannot do a 100 every day because it is pouring, then you have so much more pressure on the following days. But it's always a fun challenge with the added benefit of good fitness and amazing friendships that gets formed over hours of faffing around on bikes.
  5. I see they have added "virtual rides" to the challenge this year.
  6. IDT does not count towards Rapha500 (Dont' know these days but back in the day you had to go OUTSIDE). The whole point of the Rapha500 is to have adventures and fun outside!
  7. We are still battling to get someone to open the gates for us that day.....and then of coarse the safety aspect is playing a big roll these days. @River Rat might be able to help or advise or give hope?
  8. You need this saddle! TroyLee design Selle Italia Flite.
  9. I stayed over at Zonnevanger when I did the tour there 2 years back. Just outside the bustle of town and clean an rusting on the farm. http://zonnevanger.co.za/accommodation/
  10. Garmin or Wahoo can step in and sponsor a GPS unit with maps? Too soon? ????
  11. I was part of a 4 man break in VC when we entered Kyalami. I was first in and ALMOST turned right but remembered we go clockwise around the track so turning right did not feel right. .I have been part of MANY wrong turns......... lead group at TransCape. Solo break away in Polokwane road race. Every time this happened, we had to turn around and go back to where we went wrong. I think the difference was how the ORGANISER handled the situation. Yes, CSA/officials had to apply the rules and DQ and relegate etc etc. Nobody likes the poupou..... But in both my cases that I can remember from, the organizer decided to acknowledge his mistake and created an opportunity out of the situation. Trans Cape they neutralized the stage and the "pros" could ride with the open batches. Polokwane a separate "110km category" was quickly created and I "won" (race was actual 100km and had their own winners) a packet of icecream or something fun.........can't remember. In my opinion, she cannot be declared the race winner. But the organisers could have acknowledge her brave effort and their "mistake" and rewarded her for that on a creative manner. My 2c
  12. https://fb.watch/9tMfqJlr4U/ CCTV footage.........check how that board moves in the wind.
  13. Eish no Swissie........you getting fat and unfit now? heheheheh. On a positive note, I have noticed the past 3-6 months that the Elite laaities' racing is slowly picking up. Faster, stronger and more aggressive. Good to see and good for the sport. Their time on that route was, in my opinion, super!
  14. Vets should not be on TV or Racing (I am a Vet and regularly race with the guys) Get the SPORT up and running and push all those sponsors to get PRO racing in SA back on track. Category 1,2,3 Men and Ladies. Ability Everything from there is "Sportive" My lousy 2c
  15. If more organisers would think like this.............Get CSA to run CSA race and the rest (us) fall under "Sportive" events with permanent race numbers that gets activated upon payment. Man one person at the gate and if a number passes the entry gate and it was not "paid" for the race all the bells and alarms must go off with an intercom shouting "thief thief thief" Or something like that.
  16. The dream................To have a permanent board, chip included, and they just activate it when you enter a race or DQ you for 5 races if you ride without payment. No more 160km drive in traffic to get a piece of useless paper. I'd pay good money for that service.
  17. Point is........doesn't have to be how registration is............never was like that previously. They wont change it. Sheeple still enter and drive out to get a piece of paper. It will stay the same just like CSA will stay the same........taking cyclist money with no value add. And yes. That is exactly what most people have started to do. They don't race anymore. This will be my last licensed race also. And if the race doesnt lend itself towards easy, on the day, number collection, I'll stay away.
  18. This whole number collection **** is so pre-covid....... The last race I did, you pitched up the morning of the race and Strava took your time and position. Truly liberating.
  19. Covid? Hahhahaha. Seems to me the new organisers are not up to the task. But that is just my opinion. No attention to detail.
  20. We had the MOST and BEST experience at the Smurfy race. NO STUPID NUMBER COLLECTIONS. Pitch up and race. If you did not enter, you get a DQ. Easy. Simple Cost effective CLEVER! I'll pay double for this.
  21. Agree 2000%. They are part of the problem that has a VERY easy fix. They CAN be part of the solution if they wanted to be. It's that easy. I saw some amazing racing at the Mauritius Tour this past week. Now....THOSE officials know what they are doing and as a result the racing is by FAR harder than what we have in big old South Africa.
  22. The comm of the VB group did not bother to pitch up so they threw the VA and VB together. BAD idea as the seperate groups were already horribly big. Seeding was done like a dog's ass and you had these 200kg dudes riding 20km over a weekend (no offence towards anyone but you have to have a bit of skill and LOADS of experience to ride in racing groups in SA.) Then ONE Comm in a bad mood that did not want to be there (In an UCI illegal car higher than 1.6m) trying to control a 200+ race hungry vets bunch dodging potholes every 50m with massive cross winds. Add drunk drivers (I was offered a beer from out a VW golf road user sitting behind the bunch after I got dropped ????) and loads of traffic..........Bad situation. Did the VA/VB group deserved to get DQ? In my opinion.....YES. They crossed the white line. Period. Did everyone cross the white line? *$#%()#% no. So is it fair? No. Lazy CSA official not writing down the numbers of riders crossing the line? I have seen MANY comms MANY times realize that it is a race with egos and testosterone and hard training and effort behind it and the wind is blowing like this or like that and then setup a rolling road closure on the fly with the bike and car, keeping the racing hard core and the riders safe. Could the Comm have had a better attitude and handled the situation better? For #()$%_$_+#%$@ sure. The impatience and attitude and number of shitfits was laughable. Scary stuff. But that was just my personal experience. Each to their own. Not her job to keep us safe on the route. She just needs to stamp down authority and enforce the rules. And the rules were broken. By her too. Will I ever take out a racing license ever again? No. They have lost a customer that have been loyal for 24 years.
  23. Very intimidating, I agree. But he deservedly got into that batch so had to give it a bash right? ???? I don't know of one rookie that got seeded in his or her first Licensed bunch and not got shelled in the first 10km. Its a steep learning curve.
  24. ???? Hope not.
  25. Looking forward to my 21st 94.7. Ave time across the previous 20.......2:32. ???????? #windgat
