  1. Exactly what I was thinking. 🤣 Shamepies, ne. hehehehehehe My avg TSS per week sits at 750 for the past 5 weeks with an all time avg (10 year data) of 593 per week. Every week. 10 years. 46 year old with family and a 8-5 job. Time to get out of the comfort zone. All said above.......... I have more than 5-10 friends that LAUGHS at the stats above. Five of them doing 3 TIMES more than I do. (35 000km per year racing and riding and racing a lot.) So even I am not even CLOSE to being really, really "uncomfortable" and the human limits can be pushed even further. Point of the mambling. Your body is an amazing tool. If you use it correctly and train it well, you can do amazing things.
  2. A better question....... Does virtual rides EVER count?
  3. Details are scares on the website. Had a look. Could not find enough info. So in 'n week I'll forget about it and never return. Logistics? Seems it will be 3 separate routes if I look at the Komoot link? Format? Cost? Time limit? Etc. etc. etc.
  4. It would have been cool to see how many kilos commuting was done and how much "CO2 saved" by doing so during the year.
  5. What if you do both? Are you allowed?
  6. But if you can't make fun of Jeff riding like an old lady on her way to church, what type of friend are you? And what type of Gen Z is Jeff for actually caring what his friend is saying about him? Abuse? Like the love letter states? Bahahhahaha.
  7. Barrier to entry? For me, having done moer plenty races over the past 28 years? Traveling cost. R8k fuel. R8k sleep over (4 days Thursday to Monday). But like 'Dale said above....you can fling it into a mini holiday which is always nice and in the past I have done so.......but........this presents second barrier Not in a school holiday or long weekend. Which means I either do it alone (forking the traveling cost out just for myself is selfish IMO) or not do it at all. The latter have been chosen the past 7 years. 24 March would have worked PERFECTLY. Long weekend and in the school holidays. This first point I can still bend my head around. Save up. Go look at the stunning country we live in. The second point is going to keep me from going for another 3 years minimum.
  8. Go to Specialized shop in Lynnwood (LCC) Measure your ass. It's quick. They'll give you a recommendation. Then you look at what's out there. In Pretoria.......... Fabric is brought in by Omnico who sells to any bikeshop. But no one stocks. (Easy and quick to order) Selle Italia is my favorite. I ride a SLR Boost (Short) on the MTB. The importers are also in Pretoria and most bike shops in Pta stocks Selle Italia. (Easy and quick to order) I am a big fan of Prologo also. Well made. You get the short version and you get narrow and wide versions quite easily. As for the power saddles..........I have tried them. LOVE the fact that you can bolt a saddle bag or light onto it but at 143mm for their narrow saddle, its just not narrow enough for my girlish ass. Good luck.
  9. Also consider (but first find out if they still do MTB'ing) Tierpoort Adventure Farm or TAF.
  10. If you are into cross country, have a look a https://www.montededios.co.za/ Short track but very tough.
  11. You should be okay yes. Just stay off the tar in Garsfontein. LOADS of traffic. Rather head out via WTF climb.
  12. So......... Having had the privilege of owning all three bikes for at least the past 2 years, here is some thoughts: No ONE bike can do all three functions (obviously) So taking your choice above into consideration.......... You'll be able to ride 90% of dusty roads and singletrack here and there with your gravel bike. You'll be able to race with your gravel bike in road races. I have a lot of friends that race on their gravel bikes. If you add a decent wheelset with skinny tyres, there is NO reason not do have good times and results You will HATE corrugated roads on the gravel bike. It is not like the MTB. It sucks riding corrugation. Riding singletrack on the gravel bike is not much fun. MTB is way better at it If you consider doing an event like Trailseeker or Sani or W2W, you'll want to have a MTB. It is just better. All things said and done, you have to decide what your riding is going to look like the next year or two. But consider this: I am a full on roadie. (love singletrack but not as much as going fast down Long Tom pass on the skinny wheels) Only do maybe one or two events per year on the MTB and riding Sundays with my wife at the local bike park. Past 12 moth's stats: 42% gravel bike 40% road bike 12% mountainbike 5% Racing and events (mostly road) 1% running and yoga.
  13. Good vibe. Good beer Best restaurant in Pretoria (food wise) The trails are quite fun also. 🤣
  14. Seeing that you are MTBing, try to connect to the LCC club. Their rides are pretty cool Big groups so you'll be safe. They have nice Wednesday night rides also Your closest Bike park will be Wolwespruit and Rosemary Hill. I am not sure about the safety at Cowshed as there has been an incident or two the past year.
  15. Bit of a big city........ Whereabouts will you be staying?
  16. Maybe beg, borrow, steal a device other than garmin and see if the drops are still there. That way you can eliminate the trainer as the problem.
  17. What Dexter said. But. If the setup is using Bluetooth, it might be even more buggy and susceptible for interference.
  18. Ooooooooooo Good choice. Sexy bike. 😵
  19. It was my 6th DC. And it has moved to the top of my list of best races to do in SA. The camaraderie and all-round positive attitude of every cyclist participating is infectious. You get to cycle for a whole day is a stunning part of our country with scenery out of a travel book and every now and again you stop to eat and drink. What is not to love. I'll be back for sure!
  20. Always an AWESOME to-do. More like 150km if you are going to park there and just ride 10 laps. Lots of people and the vibe is lekker and pace is okay. Did it last year on the gravel bike and it was manageable with the thick tekkies.
  21. During the December week? Get home. Protein shake. Shower. 15min with the massage gun. 20min nap. Then daily family stuff. Go out somewhere. Do things. Spend way too much on ice-cream and fun From 5pm easy afternoon. Maybe a bit of TV. 8pm in bed.
  22. I do 5-10 on most days. If the sleep was okayish (6 hours +) then I try to get out at 4. Heat and time with family.
  23. I always try to aim for 1000km. That way the 500 gets done quickly and easily without thinking. 😉 Always try to do more per day in the beginning 3-5 days, if you can. Makes the goal more doable in your head. If the sun is good, legs okay (legs will be eina after the 3rd consecutive day.....learn to live with this), and you have some time.....do extra. More than 100km. If you go 125, 0, 130, 125, 120. Then 5 days in you are already at mission accomplish. Obviously there will be a day in there with rain or sore ass or family emergency. That is what day 6, 7 and 8 are there for. That is my usual strategy.
