I did it when I was 13 and had no technical ability whatsoever The route changed for that year because of the world cup (players were staying in the golf estate, security reasons etc) and they skipped a technical part, but it's almost a road event on tar, except for the steps.

Buy a cheapie wheel and IDT tyre. I've got my racing wheelsets, training set (for rollers) and then another old wheel with conti home trainer on for IDT.

bike shops tell me carbon is more robust... but they were trying to sell me mtb wheels.

2012 XT is just as good as the XTR, slight difference in finishes, (one surface area is not even on the XT) but the xt's will far outlast the xtr's.

which shop was it at? I'm sure they can arrange something.
