  1. Totally fake boras. Anyone who doesnt know that bora dont have that rear wheel spoke pattern must be really thick to sell them on a public forum.
  2. It is about economy of scale and the cost of development. If they could sell enough bikes at R10000 to cover their development costs it would allow them to recover quicker, but because it takes much more money to develop to develop the high tech bikes as oppossed to the entry level bikes they need to sell them for more. Also, the material costs between good and bad materials is a big factor to the final price. One does also pay a bit of a premium on some bikes purely because the companies need to put their bikes into the correct market segment. It is not as easy as saying oh they must be ripping us off. Compare it to a Lamborgini and a Hyundai i10. Millions of i10s around, only a handfull of lambos. But if you can afford the Lambo then why not. You get what you pay for and the same is true for bikes. A bike is not a bike is not a bike.
  3. Who cares. Lance will be a living Legend for all time. He may go down as the best doper in history, one will never know what the truth is if the current evidence is all hear-say, but one thing Lance can still be sure of was that if he was doping, then he was still the best of the dopers (probably 99% of the peleton) and even when doping, you don't go and just win 7 Tour de Frances because your drugs are better then the next guys. He was and will remain the best cyclist that ever lived. What have you ever achieved that comes even close to what that man did on his worst day on the bike???
  4. Shimano M240 Heat moldable shoes. Normally sell for over R3k. I am selling some for R2k.Check my ads. I ride with them myself and they are extremely comfortable. I find the Sidi very hard on the feet with the thin wooden inner sole.
  5. Careful what ideas you do post as once you do you can't patent them.
  6. Can't say, but can tell you it is patent pending and will hopefully debue on some of the TDF bikes mid 2014.
  7. It is sad really. But then again I guess the owners are just happy with what it is. The sad part being that those customers that do go there are getting risky repair work that is putting them in danger way. Imagine Fastr was coming down Helshoogte at 80km/h when his handlebar came off and there was a car or two right behind him. I think if people are in the service game when it comes to people safety, they should put the bottle aside or stop doing business all together. Whether the bloke has a problem or not, he should not make it others people's problems.
  8. Buy 2nd hand and look for a good condition S2 Cervelo. Dont get better than that for R20k.
  9. Owned both and have made a shift to only roof. If you are not concerned of riding into a carport then the benefits of roof mounted far outweigh the slight bit of extra fuel you may use. About 1l/1ookm. Bike stay clean in rain, are out of people touch reach, out of way for boot access, look much cooler, dont require a dong on the rear of your car and special hookup to your lights, dont have issue with rear impact. Put your bike on the roof and go!
  10. Very seldom you will need to replace cluster and chain rings even if your chain is very worn. It is more often a problem when you change from a worn cassette to a new one and your chain is in good condition as it will make a noise. If the new chain shifts correctly don't even bother with the cassette and chain rings. Just wasting your money.
  11. Or you could sell your bikes and make money instead of spending...
  12. Comment removed.
  13. 29er if you are doing marathons. 26er if you are on the rivet on very technical tight courses and know your stuff. You will however get a lot of nice value if you get a 26er pre-owned cause it seems no one wants to buy them anymore and hence no one can sell them easily.
  14. Lucky USADA is not investigating this cause according to their thinking Johan's silence or lack of involvement in defending himself makes him guilty and he would be banned from doing business for life. (Disclaimer: Just taking a dig at USADA).
  15. Na thats cool. I actually moved to Stellenbosch a year ago and do all my own bike building including wheel building etc. I don't trust anyone besides myself to work on my bikes. Used a shop 3 times in the last 7 years. On two occassions they stuffed upped what little they had to do and the 3rd occassion they could not torque it correctly as they never owned a torque wrench so had to redo myself anyway. Glad Wayne got one. Hope his upstairs mechies use them too. Would recommend him anyday besides the fact he is a nice guy. Wayne apparently learnt his wheel building from John Webb who was one of the best wheel builders in SA in his day. Wayne bought shop over from Webb when it was still Webb cycles.
  16. Ja, Wayne is the best I have come across. I have however never seen him use a torque wrench even though he does work on the expensive bikes himself.
  17. Wayne Ph Cycle Pro Action John-Lee 2nd Breath Coimbra Shop across from Methodist Church at bottom of Lovemore Heights Triangle Who else we have?
  18. Ja, I am not hundred % either. If it was me I would say please keep deposit until we can find a spot for me in future. If I was Johan I would say cool or even say, hey you know what, here is you rmoney back, just cost me a few emails and phone calls, maybe 15min worth but not worth making an issue out of it. Either way, if I was either of them I would have made a better compromise than what has been made. Maybe both of them can still do this. Would take "bigger men" of both of them.
  19. To be honest, I don' think many people will be too put off by this, but definitely more than R550 will be lost in future business. I think it is more the principle that it is probably just not worth a measily R550 to have this kind of bad publicity toward your name, especially a name associated with a business. Obvioulsy the R550 is worth a lot more to the plaintive than that. Posting here in my opinion was done more to make a point and get a reaction than it was done to recover the money. I think his original intention will have worked. I think if you do the course you will probably be the most qualified mechanic in PE. I have still to find a shop there that ownes a torque wrench. Maybe John-Lee will be the first.
  20. By the way, can anyone who has done the course please explain why a chain stretches??????
  21. If I was JB I would have just given the guy his money back irrespective of the conditions as no doubt this topic alone has done more damage to his business image than retaining the R500 is worth. I can imagine it is worth keeping a deposit for a no show or a very late cancellation which prevented a replacement being found in time for a course, but to keep the deposit when no service was given and after a cancellation due to him not being able to give the course is not really ethical or good business practice irrespective of the terms and conditions. Johan, if it is all true, give the guy his money back and rather keep the good reputation you have gained on the hub than loose it here.
  22. We have all seen them, heard them, some of us have been them, will become them, but most of alll will hopefully teach them. Post your chopathlete stories and photos here for a good laugh.
  23. Anyone know where I can get replacement parts for Thule products other than from the agents who want you to replace everything?
  24. Anyone else. SO far look like the big purchases are done at the local LBSs.
