  1. What exactly do you want to know? If it is on the banned list then that should answer the is it banned question. One thing I know about glandular fever is that you should not really be training if you still have its symptoms. You could damage your heart irrecoverably.
  2. Oh ok, let's put it into perspective for you: I am 73kg and last tested I sat at 411W PPO. I had just ended my base when I did the test so my lactate was relatively low. I took part in our provincial TT champs a few weeks later and posted a 57min. Flat road, course tar, but had the full kit short of a disc. If you are riding with a PPO of 455W and loose that upper body mass you are going to be giving a lot of very good cyclists a big hiding in the years to come. I am only speaking from your stats and assume you are already riding competitively, but if you hook yourself up with the right coaches and team you are going to go far.
  3. Is that on a full TT bike with deep section wheels, a TT helmet, full TT bars, skinsuite, etc?
  4. That is a very good peak power output. As you said you have a lot of upper body mass, but it looks as if you VO2max will be pretty accurate. I would concentrate of losing that upper body muscle the next 2 seasons, but keeping the leg muscle. If you are riding with that kind of power that is awesome. Depending on your program and base you are probably doing a 40km TT in about 54-55min?
  5. A technical degree will help in technical discussions.
  6. It really depends on the wheelset in question. Some wheelsets use different rims between the back and front. Some use different spoke couunts between the back and front. The best would be to ask the manufacturer directly as knowing exactly how they have built the rim is of all importance. They may look the same on the outside, but internally something else may be goiing on, e.g. added material in inner on rear, slightly different alloy, etc. You just never know. Basic rule when it comes to changing anything away from the manufacturers norm is ask them. It is not as simple as it seems.
  7. Yeah, sorry, dividing is what I meant. Hey that is a pretty decent figure if you are sitting at 70 with a lot of upper body mass. That Power to weight ratio how was it determined. It that at lactate or is that peak power? I forgot to ask. What are your figures?
  8. Daar is mense wat hulle gatte nog gaan sien... al bly jy binne die nuwe reels, dit is 'n mens se houding wat op die ou ende die finaale besluit van Admin sal laat maak.
  9. l/min can be converted to ml/min by multiplying by 1000. Then you tims that by your mass in kg and you should get VO2max in ml/kg/min. I.e. if you weight 80kg you should get a VO2max of 70.33ml/kg/min which is in the upper elite level of VO2max so is not improbable even though high. I would assume you are very lean and on the level whereby you hang with the teams you mentioned? Although with it being an estimation it could be lower or higher. I have been officially lab tested at 68 with 6% extra fat so your figures may be rather accurate.
  10. If you carry a lot of heavy stuff around on a frequent basis I would suggest an alignment test as suggested, BUT, from your last comment it may be more than just a simple chiro session. You will probably need to "rehab" your straightness by slowly using both sides to lug that heavy equipment around at work in order to create a better balance of the body. A good Biokinetisist may be of better value.
  11. I know a good word for people who feel the need to swear in order to be able to communicate: Common (It can even be used as an Afrikaans word to better effect.)
  12. Aahhh reminds me of USA. But I really struggled not to go back. Problem being it was not called Scooters but Hooters. Best restuarant for a lonely traveller with a appetite from riding a bike all day.
  13. Are you right dominant? I.e. use your right hand side more for strength type situations. It could be more than just a matter of having weak muscles on one side. It could be misalignment in your hips or back. It could be a loss of power on your left from a slight misalignment resulting in an unnoticed pinched nerve. Personally I would start out by visiting a Bio or sommer straight to a Chiro. They will quickly acces if it is a misalignment issue. Reason I say this is that I had a similar problem with misaligned hips. Chiro is the only way I get them back in without spending loads and loads of money on many treatrments to get the physio to bring it back in. Chiro gets it in and then I try and train the muscles to balance. Strength exercises and stretching are good ways to attain and keep a balance. Also, during day to day activities such as climbing stairs jumping, etc try and always balance it out by using different legs to do the work or activities.
  14. He may have been that lone rider on the white horse who chopped the Captain's sons head off.
  15. Man unless you training and riding with a PM don't worry about it and just give it horns. I take it you have youur power to weight ration (PTW)? if so VO2max = 12 * PTW + 3.3 more or less
  16. VO2 max (also maximal oxygen consumption, maximal oxygen uptake, peak oxygen uptake or aerobic capacity) is the maximum capacity of an individual's body to transport and use oxygen during incremental exercise, which reflects the physical fitness of the individual. The name is derived from V - volume per time, O2 - oxygen, max - maximum. VO2 max is expressed either as an absolute rate in litres of oxygen per minute (l/min) or as a relative rate in millilitres of oxygen per kilogram of bodyweight per minute (ml/kg/min), the latter expression is often used to compare the performance of endurance sports athletes. A less size-biased measure is to divide by rather than mass.
  17. Spartans! Prepare a hearty breakfast for today we ride on DOGMA! Following on from your Raleigh bash: You there! What is your profession? I am a Raleigh rider. And you, what is your's? I am a Scott rider? And you? I am a BlackAce rider? Spartans! What is your profession? Dogma! Dogma! Dogma!
  18. Its that green spartan helmet you wearing that weighs you down. Off topic, I actually just finished watching 300. Still one of the better movies of all time.
  19. The big question is how do you know if you have hit the upper level of VO2max? There is so much to consider such as your base, your previous few years of cycling, your lean body mass and usable muscle, your effective lungs capacity at the time of test, your %fat, etc, etc. VO2max can change over the years as your body and training changes, but if you are already at the top of your performance curve you will not change it very much more than about 2-5. Easiest way to increase you VO2max if you are not near your peak is to loose fat and non-working muscle.
  20. Oh but you surely cannot try kill a national sport? :D
  21. I was brought up in a household where we did not use foul language or tell dirty jokes and we were taught to respect woman and children by doing the same in their presence. Based on the way I was brought up and probably many others like me who have similar rules in their houses today and also that there are probably plenty of woman and children right here on the hub with us, I personally would like to see all forms of foul language, sexually offensive and obscene language as well as racist and offensive language banned outright from the HUB. If you want to speak dirty go and do it in private. This is a public forum.
  22. Personally I think all forms of swear words should be banned as that is then a very clear line that cannot be moved. Besides there are plenty of good english and afrikaans words that can be used to replace them. There will always be room for moving a boundary so long as you are seen to be weak in shifting that boundary from its original position.
  23. Wheels and tyres are always the best bang for your buck.
  24. I also doubt they would because that would be silly. What I meant by illegal entry is a situation for instance when your bike is inside your house and your housekeeper is at home during the day and someone enters and steels whilst she is hanging up the washing.
  25. Agreed, they ask you to get quotes from a few bike dealers and then normally take the lowest quote. Also, remember to constantly keep your insurance adjusted to the current price. I think a lot of guys out there are paying too much at the moment with the strong rand. You could be saving some cash each month.
