Well at least an Italian won today! But I missed opportunity I think, more action in Tour of Hungary!
I wonder if anybody has any full side footage? Is it possible Dianese’a front wheel slipped into the path of Cav? It’s so fast, hard to see the money of contact, but I didn’t like Cav going all left and then wondering if he could just go for Milan’s wheel. One right point was the barriers, if those had the old ones this would of been a disaster!😖

A gravel bike with 38 - 45mm tyres on a mixed surface ride (tar & smooth-ish gravel) will be faster and less effort than a hardtail any day. I did The Rift race, which was 90% gravel, some of it chunky, with plenty of minor corrugations, and a gravel bike was perfect for it. On flat tar or smoothish gravel, a gravel bike is a lot faster than a hardtail.
Once the surface starts getting chunkier or looser, gravel bikes stop inspiring confidence, for me at least, and start slowing down, especially when descending. In these circumstances, a hard tail will likely be faster and will definitely be more comfortable and reassuring. I have a route near my house that I ride quite regularly and some of the sections are chunky and loose - I've ridden it on a gravel bike and a hardtail, and every time I ride those sections on a gravel bike I wish I was on a hardtail, but I'm faster over the whole route on a gravel bike.
For bikepacking, I'm leaning towards using a hardtail unless the surfaces are really predictable - a fully loaded gravel bike on chunky or corrugated terrain is uncomfortable and slow, and mountain bike gearing makes climbing with a loaded bike that much easier. I'm not sure you'll be faster, in fact you probably won't, but you'll be more comfortable. I'm doing the Rad Race 96 Hours next month and although it's a gravel race, I'm going to do it on a hardtail with 2.2" tyres, rather than my gravel bike for the reasons above - I've debated this choice endlessly but that's my reasoning.
Love you hear about your Rift experience! It sold out this year so quickly!
GL for the coming races!

You and I both….😂😂✅
Yeah what he said…👆🏻, I’m sure cash has to be returned, if his not aware of the process, he can always call Lance for a more detailed explanation. 😜

… and this is South Africa, it’s a national sport boet! 😳

There is a certain hub member that keeps enticing me join the morning rides, but they happen a full hour earlier than when I normally ride in the mornings, so its taking some serious thinking.
I would have joined them this morning, but it being my wifes birthday I though it best to not wake her early today.
… give that man a Bells! 🤭

Oh course… stage 3 is the deal breaker!

Nice to see Justice served, a great example when the system works, but unfortunately it won’t improve the overall picture of road carnage on SA roads. We need much harsher sentences to drive home the message.
Best wishes to family in these trying times. 🙏🏻
The Pog is the only guy who could shake a stick at these, but his season would need to be altered. The classic racers are always going to be hard to beat.
Absolutely shocking… crime is definitely on the up in this country!

still, if the strongest rider always won, then Tim Declerq would win everything probably
… I think you’d have many entertaining conversations with Pascal Sergent on that one… 🤭😜
I’d strip the hub, do some digging, could be a small bit that made its way into the hub mech, and when it engages freewheel it’s touching metal upon metal. Sometimes a misalignment on a leaf spring is the result. You see with alot of packed grease it can go unnoticed. Worth a second look in my opinion. Let us know if you come right.👍🏻

.., that’s a low blow, I felt that as my fillings rattled. 😝🤪
Yeah, they had mechanical issues, I think they have available positions for the more mechanically inclined. I’m not sure what exactly went down but during last week we had discussed this nee tyre tech and would anybody use PR as a try run to test. This is why we will never know who was the strongest rider. So many didn’t get a chance to shine…, I think the big losers was Ino boys. I think Sheffield carries a new team mascot as the only Rider to crash in every Classic 😅. Lots of sore bums today… and riding with no gloves, seems Tom Boonen sure left some benchmarks to a true classic winner! 👀
Absolutely an insane edition, unfortunately my pick King Kung couldn’t do it, but to be there when the selection was made was a great ride. So this goes down as the fastest edition in this the 120th time of PR. Team tactics was huge today, we were semi transported back to the days of Mapei! A lot of strong players were not to be, and to see Sagan going out in his last race was a bitter pill to swallow! Amazing that hanging around the front would be the undoing of many. As for mechanical issues, we see no group set is immune to the ghosts of pave, but a certain team sure slipped on a banana!
Now it’s time to reflect of what could have been for riders like Ganna and Perderson, both have good form, so I’m expecting some strong performances in the coming races. But I think the later would do well at Amstel Gold. The next big one in terms of Classics for me will be LBL, I think Jumbo will try to make good there.
