  1. You know the evening is going to go south when you look like this..........
  2. What a blast. Lost the glowing pumpkin over the first kerb along with some ice from the cooler box (pumpkin was later recovered). The 5 litre keg does not last long with boatman and chicken suit man. By Phata Phata we ran out of beer...........
  3. Can't decide due to the hills at the last 3rd of the race but it has a fairly flat middle section. Do I stick with the 32x18 on the SS like VG although my legs were still spinning for hours afterwards or do i go to 32x16....... 26inch bike and hopefully the fork will have some air it it this time....... #note to self don't fiddle with fork 10min before the start.....
  4. Yip reckons last bit of rain by 3pm latest. Can't wait the bike has never been pimped
  5. You just made me spill my coffee i was laughing so much
  6. The GF and i are also going to try our best
  7. Yeah looks like Louw's rear shimano hub started getting so much play that the brake disk started binding on the pads. But man that first beer went down fast
  8. Ha Ha no, I just don't want to spin so much. I think my garmin got close to 14k pedal strokes for the VG race. Beat my last record of 12k
  9. Time to change from 32x18 to 32x16 at least. I think my legs are still spinning from sat.....
  10. What was that sound i just heard..... Oh yeah a confirmation email landing in my mail box for the next nissan 70km SS race. Whoop whoop
  11. You laugh about the angle grinder but when i was building my SS bike i forgot one important thing. The smaller/thinner chainring bolts. Only noticed it halfway through the build and it was past 5pm so out came the angle grinder and I ground down 4 std bolts. Worked perfectly no one would notice the difference. All it took was a beer or 2 and I hatched the plan
  12. Ha ha one section at SA champs it was only on the final lap did i see the sign braveheart and the drop off with the chicken run next to it. May be it was the kilt i was wearing that made me go braveheart eyes shut and dropoff here we go. Just ride more you will eventually work a lot out. In my old age i have started rather walking some stuff than ride it. Walked a lot of the satellite downhill. V-brakes are not your friend but i was also just running out of talent. Glad you finished and didn't get scared away. Congrats
  13. Except that orange niner with white fork.... Man I got dropped by him not once but TWICE. Had a mech problem at one stage as far as I could tell then took a wrong turn. Quite humbling when you think your doing ok ha ha.
  14. I saw an on one with gears at Nissan. Black. I thought I had dust in my eyes at first. couldn't believe it. Lucky I passed him on my SS ha ha.
  15. We it has to be shaved clean for movember anyway. Must go check the styles this year
  16. @rouxtjie no you don't cause you didn't expect that Jou Bliksem climb after the church For once and I do hope I have learned, I drank enough and didn't blast it at the beginning. Ok not too easy to blast it at the beginning and keep up with the geared bikes at the start on an SS with 32x18. Felt like an amature being left behind in the dust. You spin but you don't go so fast.
  17. when we started racing many years back we would not carry much and he ALWAYS had tubes, pumps etc so if we had a mechanical we knew he would be not too far behind and sort us out, until one race he came home with 2 flat tires and no pump and tubes. He had handed them to me earlier. that was the last time, now he rides past grinning (or at the towers throew a bomb to my nephew which turned out to be an empty one ha ha). We have learnt and carry everything plus the kitchen sink.... I even had a spare SS chain with the pin ready to go it tucked away in my backpack this last race.
  18. Damn makes us feel like we slow and soft. My dad just turned 60 i must tell him to HTFU and get going hee hee
  19. Going to be awesome. Should get the keg this week for the bike rack. Free beer from my bike to all. First come first serve while stocks last ha ha
  20. Getting things ready. Can't wait
  21. Hey Tim give the guys a choice at the end of the race Haka or VG medal. I for one will just take a VG one to complete the list. Or just hand us a free cold beer and we call it quits ????
  22. Those are the guys that deserve a beer afterwards. Not for riding it but for providing excellent entertainment. Had that once on the monster. We were all walking over the rocks and he thought he could ride around us. 20m was how far he got before he went over the handlebars.
  23. I went 32x18 on a 26inch my legs took 24hrs to stop spinning after that long flat road. Should have changed to a 16 at least but i got lazy. Paid for it but spykerbombs and beers made it all worth it. Didn't help my fork lost air after the strips. Could work out why the bike was handling so bad, only at the church did i realise so locked it out for the rest of the ride. Note to self DON'T fiddle with your fork 20min before the start. #willieverlearn
  24. Yeah been a great 3 weeks for me. No dirt roadie trails. 3 towers, mateke game lodge 4x4 trail (lots of bike hiking 45 degree slopes) and now nissan. Makes you have to dig deeper i. The technical department (or in my case i lack it so just crash over and pray). This is how mtb was supposed to be. Big up the fixie fork people. Must have hit a few rocks hard on the 70km
  25. Try the racing ralph snakeskin otherwise stay with the ikon. I have used both
