  1. how did this go? are there pics?
  2. Isn't it more expensive to enter as a team? The way I read it, you still have to pay your individual entry fee and then a team entry fee on top of that?
  3. Don't forget the new timing chip. No longer RaceTec.
  4. Awesome setup. Sounds like you do some serious spraying? What do you do in terms of keeping the area dust free etc? From the pics, it doesn't look like you have a dedicated spray booth?
  5. awesome stuff - thanks guys.
  6. Ladies and Gents I'm keen to give re-spraying my frame(s) a go. I'm under no illusion that this will be a simple task or that I'll get pro results - but I'm always keen to try something new. So this is on my list of 2014 goals So, for those that have dabbled with this themselves or perhaps work in a related industry, are there any recommendations with regards to te following in terms of brands and/or suppliers: Compressors Guns Paints All of the above are available from Builders W etc, but my general experience tells me that the items stocked at these types of stores will most likely be mediocre at best. (Don't get me wrong - I don't need top of the range stuff, but I would like something that can get the job done properly and that will last more than 6 months ). Is my assumption correct? Or will they do a decent job? Cheers
  7. so, where the pics?
  8. Thanks for reviving this one. Reminds me I have two frames waiting to be done. I'll have to pop into builders on the way home...
  9. Try things out of comfort zone: Ride my first ROAD stage race - I'm more a dirt junkie. Build my own bike - instead of buying off the shelf. Do a 24 hour race... But most importantly ride, havefun and stay safe.
  10. Cutting queues is one reason. But this is the lesser of the evils as, when they do this, they generally they have full vision of what is in front of them in the yellow line. The **** hits the fan when they are tail gatting another taxi and/or other large vehicle. At this point they have no idea what is in the yellow line ahed of the them. They then decide to either pull off into the yellow line to pick up/drop off a fare or to undertake the vehicle in front. They pull into the yellow line at 80km/h and boom, there is a cyclists a few meteres in front of them. Looking at the impact point in the photographs I'd say this is probably what happended today.
  11. I haven't read all the fine print, but I doubt Absa Cape Epic would have given this entry to MTN for free? So MTN still had to pay for the entry - hence only money over and above the base cost goes to charity. Correct me if I'm incorrect.
  12. This applies to any retailer. The main reason being that the Big Boys (Makro, Game, Shoprite etc) will refuse to sell your product if you are supplying to online stores (Takealot, Kalahari etc). They know that the online model is cheaper - despite their huge buying power. So their only solution is to bully the wholesale suppliers into not selling to online stores. I imagine the same applies to the cycling industry...
  13. On entering the uphill switchback single track at the end of day 2 (before the pack houses), there were 4 guys and 2 ladies in front of me. By the time I got to the top, only the 2 ladies were still in front - not because I was fast and past the guys, rather all of them had fallen / bailed / rode into a tree etc. I don't think I saw either of the ladies 'dab' once. Well ridden!
  14. Don't beat your self up about that. Last year the amount of climbing per kilometer was more* than any of the other stage races (apart from 'Hell and Back'). The race met all the pre-req's for me: fairly cheap, local, able to sleep at home (family time) and a tough testing route. There was also plenty single track. Disappointed *based on advertised figures
  15. pity - was a tough, testing ride. I guess manicured smooth trails are all the rage nowadays.
  16. Yep - like jcza says. I think entry was round the R8400 per team for tented accomidation.
  17. Interesting statement that: we did the W2W ride (weekday event) which I believe was only about 60% full. We didn't have any issues with queues on the trail or in the camp. But that said, there didn't seem that much more space to accomidate another 300 riders. So, I imagine, a full quota would have had the campsite stretched to the limit.
  18. Done Sani and W2W. In terms of riding I prefered W2W - because I enjoy the technical stuff more. But, given a free enty I wouldn't hestitate to go to either. I enjoyed the setup of the Sani camps more. (My opinion) is that Sani is a bit more rider orientated - plenty of free stuff and more variety in terms of drinks and snacks. I don't remember the exact entry costs, but I would think that W2W should be a bit cheaper than Sani given the smaller goody bag and the fact that there is only a single campsite to maintain. But I think the prices are fairly similar? If that is the case, it strikes me that Sani is 'giving' more back to the rider? BnB is on the bucket list. Edit: forgot about the single tent at W2W - that is a bonus!
  19. Hi. Any chance of knowing if the 500 rider limit has been reached for the free t-shirt? Think I might join in if the T-shirts are still available.
  20. I think Tygerberg members should get the same discount as PPA members?
  21. I think NitroDoni41 might have finished top of the pile - so probably a big party going on Regardless of which way the result went, well ridden. Can't wait for tomorrow when I get to hit the trails.
  22. day one: http://www.wines2whales.co.za/index.php?id=93 think some guys are still riding day 2
  23. Contermans in the morning
  24. Hoogekraal in the afternoon
  25. Hoogekraal in the evening...
