  1. Even on rocky/bumpy climbs I leave my rear shock open on my 29er dually, and also on long rides my rear shock stays open most of the time. It really is nice to have the soft rear on longer rides, a hard tail will bump me tired within 30kms.
  2. The new Silverback Storm carbon 29er. Storm1 10.6kg will go for +- 23k and Storm2 10.8kg for 20k, both got Stans ZTR crest wheels. The frames look superb with metal protection in the right places, a triangular down tube and some give in the rear triangle along with the narrow 27.2 seat post will add some comfort.
  3. 29er is thus then better for the consumer cause they ride enduro endurance (50km+) type events is this not so? I rest my face, 29er rulez!
  4. I think its great to have more options they should make a frame in all sizes for each wheel size, so you can choose like: I want a 27.5 wheel size large frame, or I want a 29er small frame - the more options the better. And then you must choose the crank length also. I don`t know why people are so uptight about this wheel size thing you ride what you wanna ride nobody says you must now go buy a 27.5er, but if you do want to buy a new bike, it`s nice to have options to suit you.
  5. Stens my bru
  6. And there we have it, 27.5 is just a little better than a 29er and both of them are much better than a 26er.
  7. This is going to be a seriously good bike, it has a triangular down tube and both models comes with Stans Crest wheels at a very good price....Momsen has got a problem here.
  8. I know I was getting tired of typing all the great options we have, in Grabouw there is Lebanon, Oak Valley, Grabouw MTO, Groenlandberg, Thandi/Paul Cluver, all within 20mins drive.
  9. Not Avid
  10. Road helmets should be smaller, car proof, and full face with pollution filters, MTB helmets should be rock, mud and dust proof.
  11. What about medium aged and light?
  12. The new Silverback Storm is lighter and much cheaper I would rather go for that, even the cheapest model comes out with Crest wheels which saves you a wheel upgrade.
  13. Anywhere outside the Western Cape fails in terms of safety.
  14. Can you host an Epic there no cause you`ll ride into a fence and die.
  15. No Somerset West dammit!
  16. I think my town Somerset West might win this: On my doorstep: Lourensford with 120km dirt road including lots of single tracks, this is mtb heaven Schapenberg trails, can stay on the dirt and ride into Grabouw MTO area Helderberg College trails Helderberg trails, can ride into the Eden Stellenbosch trails Can ride along the railway line to Bottelary trails in Stellenbosch Then Stellenbosch is just 20min away by car with: Jonkershoek is a world class mtb area Bottelary trails Eden forrest Then Grabouw is also just 20mins away by car: Ok Im getting tired now Grabouw is another world class mtb mecca with lots of different options For mtb Somerset West is hard to beat, no wonder the Epic ends here.
  17. Somerset West is MTB heaven...As soon as the hot weather calms down I`m gonna plan a Skaap&berg/Wagontrail/GrabouwMTO and back ride, watch this space if anybody wanna join. Skaap&berg only opens @8am and will result in too much heat on a long ride like this, but surely there`s gonna be a mild weekend soon.
  18. But this is the hub, all here are active, not sure about your statement also, Tim Nokes said that unless you are carbo resistant, you can go stuff your face with low GI carbs.
  19. Yep all those that do not say Maxxis Ikon Exo`s are those that have not tried it yet.
  20. What not to carry: DSTV Decoder A brick An ekstra bicycle frame A bad attitude A hosepipe A Lawn mower I`m sure there is lots more, cant think of everything now...
  21. 1.5L Camelbak with a few stick on patches in holding pocket Tube and tire lever taped to the seatpost Small pump on frame Optional: Wind/water repellent jacket that folds up small in centre jersey pocket, can be sleeveless too - weather dependent Energy bar in jersey pocket Small lightweight cellphone for when I`m feeling brave and riding alone in jersey pocket BTW this is what to carry...
  22. Hey whats wrong with this track? It is still perfectly ride-able . Just kidding, the point is to me Jonkers is great and the open single tracks seems to be in good condition, I will start complaining when a single-track becomes unride-able and no effort is made to make a new one or do repairs. If the tracks are in good shape they can go spend their profits on the can-can girls for all I care. As for the DH vs XC doing repairs at Tokai, jeez chill out people.
  23. The DT Swiss M210 shock is entry level, it does not perform as well as the Fox, the Giant wins by far in the rear suspension department.
  24. How could he win with that wind resistance disadvantage? Did he strap them down or did he take advantage of a tailwind?
  25. Its great yes, keeps the trails nice n fresh for us.
