  1. Not that it matters in terms of their responsibility, but was Basso one of their official brands.? Or was it just excess stock after the demise of a certain other bike store/distributor.?
  2. The names mentioned all come highly recommended. Location and turnaround would possibly be key in picking one.
  3. Definitely finding myself more and more keen on one ...
  4. I was going down Constantia Nek on my own yesterday with lots of wind noise when a BMW (luckily not a white bakkie) flew by really close ... at that moment I thought a radar could have been really handy.!
  5. Possibly still operational but tough to get excited about a website still reflecting items from Black Friday circa 2020, which when checking the detail, disappoints with no stock.! ☚ī¸
  6. Some rim/tyre combos do seem to work better than others, with hookless rims complicating things even further. 🙈 I haven't tried any Conti options yet and will certainly approach with caution given what you've said. 🙃 Tubeless certainly is a journey with very few dull moments. đŸ¤Ŗ
  7. There are reasons already mentioned why some may not just get on a bike, and would prefer to subscribe to an organized group/club instead. That said, I'm no stranger to just riding and getting in the slip ... but I've also had many rides where it seems everybody is going the opposite direction. 🙈
  8. Tinder.? 🙃
  9. Agreed. But I felt no need to correct the poster as the attitudes are apparently the same in both groups. đŸ¤Ŗ
  10. To quote an earlier post: "Southern suburbs and Town are clicky" The idea of "just ride your bike" is possibly also one of the barriers to cycling currently with safety concerns around being solo on the road.
  11. Start riding with a group.? Clubs would generally provide that opportunity when others are not available.
  12. Real or perceived benefits aside, where does one without access to any informal groups start.?
  13. Agreed, and while those "enemies" are not unique to cycling clubs, they do appear more prevalent than in other sporting codes.
  14. Sounds like a reason for a new pair/multiple pairs.
  15. Yip. Particularly curious about the southern suburbs and CBD. Northern suburbs appear to be in a much better space. I acknowledge and I am familiar with many of the names mentioned, but even they are far less visible than before. Infinity would possibly be the one exception.
  16. I'd like to think so too, but I don't see the same levels of activity or visibility that there was 5 - 10 years ago, specifically around the southern suburbs and Atlantic seaboard. Northern suburbs and beyond may be very different. Can you name some active clubs.?
  17. Hi. It's the lead up to CTCT and there were "thousands" of cyclists on the various parts of the route yesterday. While this isn't surprising, the absence of obvious club activity was noticable and has been for a while now. Are clubs no longer fashionable.? Are people opting for smaller informal groups.? Which clubs are still active in Cape Town and Southern Suburbs.?
  18. I've patched my latest punctures but haven't reinstalled the tyre/s yet. Keen to see if it/how well it works. 🤞
  19. I had a rather strange incident last night where at home a wheel sprung a leak, discharged some sealant before sealing but without losing much pressure if any. I thought the puppy had chewed on the tyre 🙈 but suspect that there must have been something like a piece of glass in the tyre from last ride that had then pushed through, or perhaps a previous seal that failed. Tubeless certainly keeps things interesting. đŸ¤Ŗ
  20. Ok - thanks. Was thinking it would be a good back-up. Not necessarily that product/brand but whatever works. Otherwise it's the standard other items you mention.
  21. Anybody using inflate/repair cans.? đŸ¤ˇâ€â™‚ī¸
  22. Durasole do some fantastic work. Sometimes the requests are foreign to them but they're always keen to figure out something.
  23. The "other" brand/s seem to get very respectable/acceptable reviews internationally. Also hard to ignore at +-R1000 cheaper ...
  24. Pretty sure it would be. (assuming it is associated with an incident rather than normal wear and tear) One would probably just need to weigh up any excess payments vs cost vs any impact on policy/premiums etc.
  25. So I stepped on my R200.00 Stans syringe some time ago and have been nursing it along since ... Managed to get a R6.95 replacement today and just transferred the tube attachment. 😊
