  1. That's one thing I actually wouldn't complain about. I enjoy being able to browse without being hounded by someone hunting a next commission. I'll call when needed... Of course, when needed, then they're nowhere to be seen. LOL
  2. Suffice to say there'll good and bad experiences. But some are just more consistently better than others, while others are just consistently poor.
  3. I view BA more as a lbs with an internet presence rather than an online store. Comms from BA used to be really good, so not sure what's going on.
  4. Emailed them on Thursday last week about a product listed their site - no response. Also made use of CWCs online query around the same time without response. Online is a bit hit and miss at the moment. Had some good experiences with BikeMarket and also Buycycle. If they have what you're looking for, then they are definitely worth contacting.
  5. Agreed - local distributors generally don't have the skills to repair and shipping internationally to repair is understandably not feasible. That said, the equivalent of a helmet crash replacement discount in the event of tech failure would be nice. #just a thought
  6. You should inform those agents who were so keen to flog you a new one.
  7. Agreed. Common practice applied by 9/10 online traders. Important to know the items you're keen on and what they are generally priced at.
  8. Was also just checking if I've missed something, or why this thread is repeatedly resurrected ...
  9. Couple of DA pedals listed in classified ranging from R1650 to R3000.
  10. What response did you get from Crown.? Scott is their flagship brand, and as such, would have thought them to be a good point of departure ...
  11. No backsies.! LOL
  12. Camps Bay beachfront - an area frequented by cyclists, runners, beachgoers, breakfast seekers, motoring enthusiasts ... name them and they're there. Each believing they have more right to be there than the other with very few even considering the other.
  13. I've never met a cyclist who's regretted a cycling related purchase, even a disc purchase. Enjoy it, and post pics when you have it.
  14. I posted this in another thread but seems appropriate for this one too. LOL Good luck deciding ....
  15. Powertap Powercal.? Will have the added feature of "power meter".
  16. There were a couple of times during the last half hour or so when I wasn't sure whether it was high torque or grinding to a halt. As spectators I think we're always cheering for the breakaway irrespective of who it is. Good for him for holding on.! Well done.!!
  17. Cleats will help a little bit as it places more weight on the heels where the tabs are. Just take care to start.
  18. Seems there have been differing experiences. All stores probably have good and bad days due to whatever reason. Some try hard to redeem themselves, others just don't care. So I completed a small transaction with Bike Market over the weekend. It started on Saturday with shipping calculation being incorrect at which point I stopped transaction. I popped off an email suggesting they perhaps have a look at this. Being a long weekend I wasn't expecting any response until this week. Wasn't long though when I received an email apologizing for the inconvenience. It further offered free shipping if I wished to complete the order. I had a question on one of the items. An immediate answer wasn't possible, but, we'll get somebody into store on Sunday to confirm. Confirmation received and order placed. Dispatched Tuesday morning, received earlier today. Personalised note included thanking me for purchasing from them, and apologizing again for any inconvenience. Have they gotten things wrong in the past - probably. And they probably will in future too. But my experience was worthy of me taking time to post here. Bike Market appears to have set their customer services bar particularly high. Kudos.!
  19. Internationally Raleigh is a fairly respected albeit dated brand. Locally Raleigh had a good period about 15 years ago. The top end bikes were raced on the local pro scene. The RM5 to which you refer dates back to that period. Consider the age, likely mileage and probable wear and tear.
  20. I appreciate the effort. Way too many new, duplicate, unnecessary threads being created. LOL
  21. +1 on not chancing it. Two things that the carbon repair guys I've spoken with are hesitant to repair (depending on the damage): handlebars and seatposts.
  22. Current models of Shimano cranks do both compact and standard chainrings on the same 110 bcd standard. I think that's applicable to 5800 too.
  23. Sorry to hear. You say you added a "cable tie". Do you mean a "chain and lock" or a nylon cable tie.?
