  3. So LX shifters I guess it will be! Isn't the Skareb a 'better' (lighter and air?) albeit older fork than the Tora? Is the Tora air or coil (I seem to think air .....)
  4. Thanks DV, we are still doing the Sunday 3hr rides on the SS and hopefully it will get easier. Only had it about 2 months and done 3 long rides before CC .....
  5. Ai ai ai Scotty your 'coolness' factor has now decreased significantly in my eyes

  7. I agree with the 'don't do it just for the sake of doing it' thinking as you will gain nothing and probably lose some as Eldron has clearly shown. Having said that I did just cause I could - from 3*9 to 2*10 on my 29r 1) X9 double crank with 26/39 2) SLX cluster 11-36 With the 11-36 I got pretty close but still not the same 1st gear I had with my 3*9 and the 'hardest' gear is clearly 'easier' than it was .... On an XC course like Rietvlei the 'easy' gear for something like Wendell's revenge is pretty important for me at least. The only 'negative' for me is that it is way too easy to get to the 'granny' gear as I ride all of Rietvlei in the small chainring and use easier gears than I use to. I used to ride mostly middle chainring on my 3*9 and use the Granny granny combo on 1 or 2 short sections (I wear a pink blouse so don't bother!) But as my mate always says when asked why he bought a Ducati 1098 'BECAUSE I CAN!'
  8. Apparently crank length is of much less consequence than we have been led to believe Myth and Science in Cycling: Crank Length and Pedaling Technique http://www.plan2peak.com/files/32_article_JMartinCrankLengthPedalingTechnique.pdf
  9. I had on my Epic some years ago that if the piece of outer that went under the BB(wasn't full outer) was too short it would 'ghost shift' when the suspension 'worked' ....
  10. On road bike I always understood this to be true but if you see the okes at the MTB World Cup XC they use them super wide bars
  11. Does the RD cable run under the BB?
  12. I have just changed to a wider bar with no bar ends after many many years of 600mm bars and bar ends .... Had a few rides but I am not yet convinced it's any better. in fact I seem to 'over correct with the wider bar' but perhaps thats just cause I'm old and decrepit ....
  13. Either KCNC or KMC .... the failing eyesight
  14. I'll find out in a few minutes
  15. I got a 'new' 10sp 'powerlink' that is re-usable (not black, sort of silver in colour ....) from my LBS last week. And I have had to 'break' the chain once already and it was cool!
  16. Eldron you don't use 'powerlinks'
  17. Eldron you don't use 'powerlinks'
  18. You sure the front derailleur is set properly?
  19. Jackie Lester told us 'he who spins at the start will push the big gear at the end'
  20. I was always told LSD = Long STEADY Distance
  21. If I remember not so long ago SRAM were against electronic shifting
