  1. So no cycling in groups according to CSA, I can see cyclists complying with that ... [emoji41]
  2. One of those '2 bites' rides as my mate refers to them ... first ride abandoned called the 'team car' for recovery then got back home took another bike and still got in a half decent ride! Since I was out before sparrows fart this morning the thought occurred to me that many people see sunsets on most days but sunrises less so, it is a special time of the day to me
  3. Traditional boxing day ride with my son for a cup-a-joe at Seattle Coffee
  4. In a world of sleek black aero bikes be a bold red beast! As an aside I'd say Rapha need to up that target ... most people finish it in a couple of days, some aiming for 700-1000k's I've seen [emoji41] #OverAchievers
  5. You saw the short legged whethefakawe birds?
  6. I would venture to say that most people (weekend warriors) eat and drink more than they need before, during and after ... that's my observation anyway!
  7. Might be worth having a chat to this guy [emoji848] https://community.bikehub.co.za/index.php?/topic/187427-E-Bike-Spares,-Im-Here-to-Help
  8. Muddy fun at the hundred miler yesterday then checking out my suburb today, some good folks round here ....
  9. How else will you know that you're moving?
  10. 'Open a bike shop' having been down that road albeit not on a day to day basis I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick .... repeatedly for that matter
  11. That'll unscrew your hips on a SS!
  12. Been a while but Thaba showing off again this morning! So many baby animals around ... Is it like breeding season or something?
  13. That was the inspiration for the name mate!
  14. Managed to find one at Cajees in Alberhoughton ... thanks anyway!
  15. It was just a bit too black for my liking ... decided to do something custom [emoji41]
  16. Meet 'Black Betty' ... a repurposed 26" Scott Scale carbon frame that had a destroyed RD hanger (integrated in the frame so was never repaired) Running 27.5 wheels, a Kenda Karma 2.0 just squeezes in the rear. Piss arsed around for ages with different combinations of chain ring/sprocket to get the 'magic gear' right. Need to sort the seatpost/clamp tomorrow... the clamp is like 38mm or something. The seatpost I think is 34.9. Anyway will have to find something, anyone have anything around Jobeg please let me know?
  17. Picked up this mint, never ever been ridden Gary Fisher Superfly carbon frame for mahala. Just after this they became Trek Superflys but it's the exact same frame. Missing a few crucial bits around the derailleur hanger and shock mounting hardware BUT! Some may remember I recently built up 2 Alu Superflys .... stripped one of them for the parts and missing bits and ended up with this. So now have an Alu and Carbon as per the pics [emoji41]
  18. What lies in store for us in the future?
  19. Been a while ... Slipped badly during lockdown and the subsequent fallout but have gotten my backside in gear the last 7 weeks. Back on my strict protein only diet and down just over 14kg's around 82 now [emoji41] Midvaal hundred miler this Sunday was a good motivator and hoping to have fun there! Have promised myself some treats Sunday afternoon/evening (slap tchips and ice cream) but Monday back on track. Fortunately despite dropping the ball on the diet my riding has always been consistent [emoji16]
  20. "Sometimes life seems a dark tunnel with no light at the end. But if you just keep moving forward you will end up in a better place"
  21. Must be something wrong with me, my main reason for being here is the cycling discussions and occasional visit/purchase on the classifieds... #SMK
  22. Just saw this on Munga Fb ... "Just to share a quick story...you may have seen the 'sprint' for 3rd place yesterday between Sam Marx and Brian Brummer. Sam left RV5 with maybe 20 or so kilometres between him and Brian up ahead, and chased hard knowing 3rd place was on the cards. He slowly made up that distance over the 90km with Brian just keeping ahead. As they closed in on Doolhof Wine Estate and the finish line, Brian was about 200m ahead. Brian arrived at the entrance to Doolhof and was not paying attention to his gps device, and instead turned left following the local mtb trail markers. Two minutes later Sam rolled across the line believing he was in 4th, only to see Brian come up suddenly behind him in 4th! Brian was stumped and understandably disappointed. He had narrowly lost 3rd place by a 'rookie error' and it also had a big cost implication in prize money. Such is life. This morning Sam came up to us and said that as thrilled as he was to end up third, he felt bad for the younger Brian as it was such an easy mistake. Anyway, he decided he wanted to share the prize money and that felt right! That pretty much sums up the spirit of the Munga, where the sum is much greater than the parts, and riders are affected in a profound way by the camaraderie and remoteness of the race. It is deeply part of our DNA. Yes it's a race, but for each rider, it's a personal journey to a special place. Thanks Sam!"
  23. I have 3 bikes with Sunrace cassettes ... 2x12sp 11-50 and 1*11sp 11-50. Done many thousands of kilometers and besides the 11sp starting to get fiddly now that it is pretty worn no problems. One of the 12sp bikes even has a Sunrace 12sp shifter which I ran with a Shimano 11sp rear derailleur till recently...
