  1. The biggest issue was that the brain no longer worked so it bobbed up and down ... it was only a bit of an experiment so I didn't really bother to replace it with something to make it rigid. Oh and it was single speed [emoji2957] .... Your idea will probably be way more usable that's for sure! Now this bike was a hoot! 80mm fork, MTB tyres. We were camping near Breedtsnek for 2 weeks, I rode up and down there nearly every day ... yes with those mechanical disks and I survived!
  2. I think he nailed the color .... Thinking back to that full suspension single speed gravel bike I once built, now that was an abomination if ever there was one, just 2 rides and it was abandoned [emoji15]
  3. That's it - made a few changes to make it all work together, get the 'magic gear' and stuff. Took it for a test spin round the suburbs. Now just strip and paint [emoji41]
  4. Sadly guys that ship has sailed, he has moved on since then but thanks Harry and Chris!
  5. Tried to resist but .... my dumb gravel build takes shape. Single speed it'll be. So far the only thing I'm missing out my garage/parts bins is a seatpost. The one in there is missing critical bits Decided just to paint the frame/fork celeste and not 2 tone but only after I've put it together and it's rideable [emoji41]
  6. Only tractor fuel available at this filling 'station' ... really guys, moaning about the cold already [emoji848]
  7. For the kind of 'mountain biking' you'll be doing and since you're really just a roadie a gravel bike will do but it's your money ....
  8. Fat bikes are dead, get a gravel bike and be done with it
  9. Another 'parts bin' build ... and some paint design inspiration! May or may not get done, still in 2 minds. If I do probably a SS monstercross for something different (inspiration from the posts guys made in the gravel bike thread)
  10. Ah the beauty of retired life [emoji41]
  11. Infidel! I never hang things on bikes, neither those in the bike room nor those in the garage ... doesn't matter how short the ride it all goes straight into the washing basket
  12. Looks like something out of a 'virtual ride' ... a bit of a 'GoT' ride this morning on the Highveld
  13. And then some... besides one or 'odd' bikes (TT, track) I try to ride them all every so often.
  14. I just can't get on with these gravel bars, I don't like the look and I can't honestly say they make any difference at least on the type of gravel rides I do ... my other gravel bike has normal road bars and I prefer that so I've taken these off and fitted some standard carbon ones. Not sure if it may have to do with the shape or how wide they are though but anyway I'll try these for a while then see?
  15. Out just after 'witching hour', I enjoy that time of the morning. Not everyone's cup of tea ....
  16. https://www.cyclingsa.com/news-and-press/2021/4/13/lynette-burger-handed-a-four-year-ban-for-violating-anti-doping-rule
  17. Honest question, what kind of terrain do you need to be riding for your fork to feel like a 'noodle'? Or am I just such a crap rider I never get to that point ...
  18. I look at some of the amazing pictures of everyone's rides and I think what a pity I have to make do with the little pond down by the shooting range behind the nursery but on reflection ([emoji12]) I still get to go out and enjoy the outdoors anyway!
  19. Clearly some don't know @Harryn ... he posed a question 'I wonder if there's any merit', he's not going out there with his damn shotgun at dawn to finish the avian killer from hell! Wishing ill on others for any reason doesn't sit well with me [emoji848]
  20. Pretty happy with the final result Proper loud as @Pikey says!
  21. While I waited for the basecoat to be done I had a mate cut the vinyl for me ... got the frame back Wednesday, applied the decals and rushed it back for the clearcoat. No patience I know [emoji12] Picked it up last night ... can't wait to start putting it back together! Lekker weekend project [emoji41]
  22. 110/115 'without too much trouble' ... Just before that I'm already unscrewing my hips!
  23. I have a good mate who's a car spray painter... I look after his bike and personal IT matters and in return he paints the 'occasional' bike frame for me [emoji41]
