  1. Dave and the other trail pro's.. I need one of these cups, I guess this is not a bad buy at R75? https://www.takealot.com/aonijie-soft-cup-200ml-round/PLID52292618
  2. Hence the four screens. This even happens that they miss critical stuff in the ladies race whilst showing the long ranger mens leader. Show the mens race, ladies race, once screen for our normal people at the back or cutt off places etc and then one screen for the VIP interviewees etc. But two at least...
  3. With split screens, one for the mens and one for the ladies race. Heck, have 4 split screens even.
  4. I switched our watches and ran with the FR35 myself last night and hopefully the issue was just the tightness of the strap. It seemed fine, but I will check it for a few more runs
  5. I see Garmin says it should be above the wrist bone. Closest to the hand I presume? We run in the dark 90% of the time, so light should not be a factor should it? I checked the cadence, does not seem to be a factor, thanks.
  6. Just to be clear, we don't use HR based training or whatever, it is actually less of a worry for me. It is however nice to monitor your fitness and keep an eye on it. But the way this one works, does not mean much, so I need to figure out if there is something wrong with the watch or not.
  7. It was surely part of the discussion, if some people need to get their act together... But then it surely should not happen when you stop on a downhill should it?
  8. Some more optical HR examples, with the one of last night taking the cake..
  9. I might soon become one of them. Either that or there will serious heart issues that needs addressing. We have a Forerunner 35 Optical HR that does the following in runs. Somewhere in the run there is a spike in the HR and then it stays at that higher level. It's not always in the exact stage of the run, not always on hills, so no real patterns, but in every single run there is a spike like this. The strap is nice and tight, so I really do not know what to make of this, apart from I'm going to wear this watch myself and give her my 230 with HR strap and see what it does tonight. A friend of mine says his 35's HR was also most of the time acting up. This run is actually the same person, but with another friend of mine's 35 when she tested it to decide if she wanted the 35 and it also did the spike.
  10. Speaking of Comrades, has anyone seen Caroline W in running shoes anywhere of late?
  11. Agreed If I could do things over I would not let myself get talked into Comrades in year 1 already, from couch to Comrades in 365 days exactly... I would do Oceans (an ultra) in year 1 and Comrades in year 2. Get yourself well conditioned and limit injuries. It is not pleasant to chase these goals to quickly and force it through injuries that comes from too much to quickly. And more enjoyable...
  12. I'm not arguing anything, just giving the info as I have it. I have not heard about anyone cut-off at that first one yet. However the top is the major one and even the only one that the organizers also always refer to and that is a definite not to be missed. Anyways, have a great run, it's a special race.
  13. That is the Mavis Bank Farm Check point (soft cut-off) Mavis Bank Farm (‘Soft’ Cut-off)There is a ‘soft’ cut-off at the Mavis Bank Farm Check Point (approx. 13km). Anyone arriving there after 2 hours from race start (9:00am) could be required to abandon the race. The Check Point Chief’s decision is final. 21km, Mavis Bank Top, 4.5 Hours is the first cut-off and if you miss that it is bye bye race entry.Mavis Bank TopThe cut-off at the top of Mavis Bank (approx 21km) is 4½ hours from race startRunners who arrive at the Check Point after the cut-off must abandon the race ...or if a runner does not make the border Check Point cut-off then the invitation is ‘lost’ and allocated to the waiting list
  14. I must have missed that one then. According to me the cutoff at Mavis is like 4 something hours and about 24kms? Edit: Mavis Bank TopThe cut-off at the top of Mavis Bank (approx 21km) is 4½ hours from race start
  15. From my school years I only used Nike. Nike or nothing... When we started with out Comrades mission I also went with Pegasus and Vomero, can't recall the model, but it was in 2016. After a few beginners issues I went to SBR Sport and Mike did an analysis. What I saw on that video I could hardly belief that you can run so differently just by putting on different shoes. What is the current "situation" with Nikes being "too soft" and not offering the same amount of "support" as the others do? Is this something that has also changed with the latest offerings? Whether Nike was/is too soft, I cannot comment on, I am no expert. What I can comment on is despite how much I liked them, I cannot argue away how much more unstable my knees and hips were with them compared to the others I did the analysis in.
  16. I might be the wrong person to comment, but decide for yourself. The first one has 1,483 on it and if the rubber wear is anything to go by, it might end up at 2,000km. The second pair is on 1,030. I am really happy with them and as you can see I will buy them blindly again.
  17. If only there was a store locally where I could fit them I think I might even have more Saucony than Brooks, which is currently my go to. Triumph and or Ride and the Peregrine's to be exact. https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/?s=saucony&post_type=product https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/saucony-mens-peregrine-iso/4686
  18. Brooks 2019, including the Ghost 12's. https://www.roadtrailrun.com/2018/12/brooks-running-2019-previews-adrenaline_12.html
  19. Nothing junk slow about a sub 4 marathon!
  20. FWIW, my highest week in any of my comrades Jan-Jun buildups was 67km. Not only do I think 100km weeks for a finisher is more quantity than quality, I think it borders on crazy and puts you at real risk of injury. But I am no expert.
  21. Am I missing something, it is R6,200 on their website?
  22. Anybody in the market for a Garmin Instinct give me a shout. The owner got the unwanted gift 2 weeks ago. Its the black one and he will let it go for R4,600.
