  1. Bloody hell.... I was expecting something like this. So much more reason to make sure you do not go out ever slightly too fast!!! Now I'm really going to be a pain in the butt, but could you just extend this to 50km? Thanks Barry
  2. Barry, I guess you can easily edit the route? What is the elevation gain over the first half?
  3. Not the traditional Camperdown, Drummond, Pinetown, Finish?
  4. And here I am stressing out about how I am going to complete the 1 x 90km... https://www.instagram.com/carlamolinaro/ 22 May 2018 Cape Town to Comrades ➡️ 90km a day for 20 days!
  5. Nothing to be ashamed of. When I started off I almost died daily doing the "pettiest" distances! Go read the Caroline Wostmann story, she could barely jog around the block when she started and from that to winning Comrades a few years later. 7 IIRC. It's tough, but grind it out, it does become better and then it is very rewarding!
  6. 2016 Down run memories/motivation. I don't care who says what, if running is your thing, you have to do this thing at least once in your lifetime!!! https://www.facebook.com/ComradesMarathon/videos/1815636665167736/?t=0
  7. I had a look at my run of last year, our first, and my thinking was if I can hit the halfway mark in the same time as last year, that would be a conservative safe target. Considering that the first half last year was basically just up and then also "covering for what my ITB and fitness may throw at me" So that would then end up in a conservative first half, then speedwalk the hills and keep the handbrake up until Pinetown and then do what I have left in me?
  8. Any tips, or is less applicable to us ouside the sub 7 club?
  9. So after running 76km for the whole of April, I can actually do more than 10km at a time and almost cut the top 10 for last week.. This is however going to be one fun (read interesting) Comrades!
  10. You would enjoy this guys' work then! Scroll to the posts after last year's comrades. https://twitter.com/mrdowdeswell
  11. This is the worst part of my problems. My shoulders and neck are a terrible mess thanks to this.
  12. I am seriously going to get myself a way to alter between sitting and standing
  13. On a normal office day, which includes the morning and evening at home, I make +-2,500 steps if I don't run.
  14. Also the same boat, except my wife experienced the disappearing act just like you, but I am still awaiting my turn...
  15. I'm in the very same pirate boat as you... I very convinced that the fact that I sit on my ass for AT LEAST 8:30 hours a day is my problem.
  16. How often and how many deep tissue massages? I am not convinced about the camber effect, not in my case in anyways. Due to the times of night that we run, I only run in the middle of the road and that did not help me much.
  17. So it seems Comrades was actually on Jenna's list for this year..
  18. I can't order clothing without fitting, especially a different unknown brand to me, but for those of you that can pre-order... https://www.brandzone.co.za/comrades-brands.html The women has got some nice looking stuff!
  19. Did you see Gerda’s story about her layoff before Comrades 2017? Crazy https://www.findallnews.co.za/sports/two-oceans-golden-girl-gerda-could-become-one-of-sas-greatest-athletes/ Steyn’s dreams of a top ten position for the 2017 Comrades appeared to have evaporated when a stress fracture was diagnosed months before the race. “I did virtually no running in the months before to Comrades,” admitted Steyn. “I could only do non-impact exercises, including pool jogging, and started last year’s Comrades after just two training runs over 30km and 40km!” Amazingly Steyn achieved her goal, placing 4th in 6:45:45, giving notice of more to come, before preparing for the Valencia Marathon in Spain in December.
  20. I had 3 x 10km runs (with pain consequences I should add) in the last week, compared to my 56kms the 4 weeks before that, does this count as positive? LOL The life of a runner... After seeing a lot of people in wheelchairs next to the road at Omtom, supporting, I try to remind myself lately, AT LEAST I can walk/run! We should always be greatful and find joy in any situation, even the dark ones and stormy ones!
  21. Just a quick one on this ITB nonsense... Is there any taping techniques that actually does help relief the symptoms or is all of them nonsense? If so, can someone please show me how.
