  1. I'm on a forced 10 weeks TAPER... Not sure I will advise it to others though!
  2. First run, real run, after Omtom and I barely managed 10kms. Full itb pain from 3kms. And damm sore today. So I guess I have a two months taper, as in proper doing nothing taper, before comrades 2018 then...
  3. Forgot to mention the good old buff. As mentioned you need way less than one think as you warm up quickly. If you run the time of morning that I do in Bloem, you need my list above.
  4. There is cheaper at Mr Price for example, but I can vouch for these! I do have a Mr P compression shirt for baselayer when it is really cold, otherwise a nice tight fit running shirt (Thanks Omtom 2016 for the small sizes) and a top for example - https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/t-asics-mens-long-sleeve-tee/5329 or a very thin jacket for example - https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/cs-mens-helium-jacket/5325 These gloves works fantastic - https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/capestorm-frosty-running-glove Same goes for these pants - https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/first-ascent-mns-p3-tights/5328 PS: I did not pay nearly those amounts for them, I got them on specials!
  5. You're still fine man! 1973 saw the first ever Comrades Marathon win by a university student. Dave Levick of the University of Cape Town was only able to put in 6 decent weeks of training prior to #TheUltimateHumanRace. He finished with a personal best, taking the title in a new record time of 5:39:09 #ThrowbackThursday
  6. One day..... but not this year, you?
  7. Please send that physio up here! I was at the chiro for something else incidentally last week. He recons it comes from my fibular head being "stuck", not moving.
  8. This guy is just insane! A 2:59 split at km 47... https://www.instagram.com/p/BhpldyUFarL/?taken-by=walmsleyruns https://www.instagram.com/p/BhojfdpH84Y/?taken-at=871724162 https://www.strava.com/activities/1508960134
  9. Last nights walk took the tally for April up to 35kms.... With absolutely no chance of running in the near future as yet, tried that, got the reminder of situation...
  10. A decision you will not regret. Most probably only a week after the 10th of June, but you won't!
  11. Clearly we also don't have the same itb issues... Went for my first run post omtom on Saturday and within the first km the pain was back full blown... Walked/try to jog for 5 kms and that was that. Great news for peak comrades training! :cursing:
  12. Obviously people differ, but I can agree on this!
  13. Andrew will tell you, that you can start with your taper now! LOL Take it slowly and carefully. Injury free is first priority! Oh, and have a look at the diet whilst your taking time off, Bruce says it is better to be undertrained AND overweight...
  14. Indeed an unbelievable race. I just don't get it what it is with this race and my itb's.... From about 5km's I felt something is not lekker, all my joints were aching. From before 20km there was no doubt that I had full on itb issues again. This year in the right knee. I don't know if it is the camber of this whole route basicly. So apart from almost being reduced to not be able to step on that leg (helped on with a mybulen, normally against what I believe in), not to mention top speed being reduced, especially on the downs, we still had a stunning day out and managed to pull 40mins of our time of last year. Needless to say the other sides of Chappies and Constantia was not a joke! Very happy (and yet still gatvol with what is happening with my comrades training AGAIN) overall!
  15. I believe that you need to ask Mr Steer what the minimum should be.... How is the injury going?
  16. She even had time for the Ola Pop... https://www.jetlineactionphoto.com/directview.php?v=&e=9924&se=3961&r=27316
  17. Caroline did take the Omtom and Comrades in 2015, then Omtom again in 2016 and in the process of becoming the first to take both of them two years in a row, she decided to go for the down record as well and that is where she buggered it up in Comrades 2016. But she, and a few others has omtom and Comrades in the same year.
  18. In that case you have reason... LOL Last year we had our biggest eye opener at Omtom, being in the same boat as you now. Going out of Houtbay all systems shutted down, no matter how hard we wanted to go, there was just nothing. When the 7 hour busses passed us on the way up on Constantia we accepted that this is it. I accepted we won't make the cutoff, but I will finish the distance, even if it takes 8 hours. So we just continued to walk, as damm hard as even walk was. On the other side of Constantia we got back into the swing of things and eventually passed both 7 hour busses on the way down and finished with more than enough to spare. So my advice is, do not go out to fast the first 42, rather enjoy the scenery and hold back. DO NOT go screaming down Chappies into Hout Bay. And most importantly, KNOW that the HURT is going to come after Hout Bay. You will be taking your body into unknown distances and if you are prepared for what is going to come, just walk Constantia. Stay positive and work through that phase, until you can go again. We learned so much out of that experience, that since we now know what is going to come and how it feels, that we did not even feel as dead at Comrades as we did on this first outing past 42km. Finishing our first Ultra under those circumstances was VERY special and this is a VERY special race.
  19. Mizuno Comrades Race shirts.... https://www.facebook.com/ComradesMarathon/posts/1759796344085102
  20. This OMTOM article from today, mentions Caroline. I wonder how accurate/informed it is. Big Names The OMTOM Ultra Marathon will see a strong women’s field battling it out for the top spot next weekend. Caroline Wöstmann is back from injury and feeling confident that she will make a triumphant return. Jenna Challenor and Tanith Maxwell, who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in 2017, will also be back. Other exciting additions to the line-up include Dominika Stelmach from Poland (2017 Wings for Life World Run Winner), USA runner Lindsey Scherf (indoor marathon world record holder) and SA’s Gerda Steyn, who is looking for a top 3 position. http://www.twooceansmarathon.co.za/news/all-systems-go-49th-old-mutual-two-oceans-marathon
  21. Indeed. I can't find her results though, DNF perhaps?
  22. I see, for whatever reason, she did not start Om die Dam this weekend...
  23. Stretch, whilst we are on this subject. Out of experience and seeing that the entries is even more this year, what time do recon would we have to leave from Umshlanga to not be caught out in traffic and miss the start?
  24. These yellow and black Mizuno's is so cool looking! https://www.facebook.com/ComradesMarathon/photos/pcb.1745665968831473/1745659322165471/?type=3&theater
