  1. Considering our situation... 1. To finish 2. within the 12 hours. I'm not sure it's going to help to have in split plan in my case, considering the elevation situation of the first 42... But I guess 05:30 for halfway? I'm trying to keep my mind of C with focus on other crazy things, as I think I'm starting to stress.... Has anybody here done Rhodes Run before? Contemplating.....
  2. Agreed. Normally I just add the HRM, have even been toying with the idea of not putting the strap on, as although it is nice to see how the HR comes down or what it does on certain races, it is not the primary thing I focus on. The bluetooth I definately want to put on during supported races, it is nice for the fam and friends to see how you are going.
  3. What else is activated, bluetooth etc? Because I tested mine with bluetooth (Garmin livetrack) and the usual HRM strap on omtom and IIRC I had 63% battery life after 6:50. So I recon I would make the 12 hours for Comrades with HRM strap and bluetooh. That's my problem with the 235 vs the 230. But it seems the 16 hours as per DCRainmaker for the 235 is not correct but rather the 11 hours.
  4. Does anybody have the Garmin Forerunner 235 (Optical HRM)? What is the battery life it? There is conflicting info on the net, initially it was 11 hours, now it shows in some places as up to 16 hours???
  5. Full - too soon Half - If all goes according to plan and no setbacks you could be ok, 9 weeks. But it might be too soon yes.
  6. 45 refreshment stations along the 86.73km #Comrades2017 route will provide the following nourishment to runners: Coke – 30,350 litres Fanta/Crème Soda – 10,650 litres Coke paper cups (175ml) – 450,000 Energade sachets (150ml) – 750,000 Energade RTD bottles (500ml) – 51,360 Water sachets – 1.875 million Bananas – 9 tons Oranges – 8 tons Biscuits – 1 ton Racefood honey nougat energy bars – 21,000 Cooked potatoes – 3 tons
  7. WRT your diet question, how is your alcohol usage the rest of the time, is this not the problem? I also don't see a problem with the late meal if it is the right portion and clean. You have to eat after your main run anyways.
  8. So once again I presume it will be better to do as few as possible running this week and when I do, and I feel the pain going past a niggle to rather stop totally? Perhaps skip the short distance runs during this and next week and rather do the exercises and foam rolling on those days. And then try and complete only the midweek 10km type runs (just one this week and two next week) and see how it goes (the ITB normally starts to kick in from 4-6)? And then try and do the full long ones of this and more so next weekend where there is a back to back 30+20?
  9. When it comes to running with ITB issues, does different running styles help it or not. Meaning I feel the ITB more and earlier with my normal running style, knee up - high heel action/free flowing running style vs a shuffling style. Is this the case or are I imagining things? Might the shuffling type of running be my short term solution until I am over this ITB/whatever it is (since the physios recon it is not ITB)

  11. Obviously there is a lot of factors concerned, but for interest sake, I am 1.89m and my cadence on the omtom was 152spm Ave, 243 spm max, 0.91m Ave stride length. Anybody that is comparable or that want to comment on how much I am overstriding?
  12. We decided to only start my wife's forerunner at 26 kms, since the battery only lasts up to 5 hours max, so that in case we should split, she has pace and time till the end. Now normally I do quite a lot less steps than she does over the same distance obviously, but this I would not have believed.... She did more steps and Calories in that 30 kms than I did in the whole 56
  13. R500 per photo from Jetline, Absurd!!!
  14. And the amount of falling over the cateyes, despite the endless warnings are just plain ridiculous....
  15. Hamstring injury after 11km. Hopefully more precautionary than bad. She said beforehand she chose comrades this year and wasn't going to race omtom, being so close to each other this year
  16. Haha. Thanks a lot for that as well! ???? But she even felt it during yesterdays 4km, today nothing. I will need stretches and miracles now...
  17. Our first distance past 42 was indeed something to remember. Everything went so smooth and patiently until Hout Bay. Then we experienced a long and painful death up Constantia. So much that we gave up on finishing in time when the 7 hour bus passed us halfway up. We walked the while Constantia and somehow was able to run again on the other side, catching and passing that group. We made up so much time that we could've walked the last three and made it relaxingly and enjoying the moment. Thankfully there was no sign of my wife's itb, a true miracle, but I felt mine before Chappies and it killed me to the end. It is totally BUGGERED, I hardly walk. All in all, WHAT a race and organising!!! So sad to hear about Caroline, hopefully it was more precaution for Comrades
  18. And so I measured/guessed my omtom adidas shirt a size too small. :'(

  21. I see you only wear your omtom number. Not your ASA nunber at all
  22. How's this for an answer.. Mind plotting a road closures map for the organisers whilst you are warmed up now? LOL Thanks a lot
  23. Distance 56 km (34.8 miles) Date of Race Easter Saturday, 15 April 2017 Start time 06:40 Start Venue Outside SA Breweries, Main Road, Newlands Cut-Offs 10:10 - 28km: Halfway, Noordhoek Main Road 12:00 - 42.2km: Outside Four Seasons Farm, Hout Bay Main Road 13:40 - Finish Line Cut-Off http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/events/ultra-marathon
  24. It would've been really grand if they could give a map with the road closures for the omtom and not just a list with all the names.... Do you guys perhaps know how my folks will be able to reach Hout Bay after dropping us off at the start? I guess not over Constantia nek, or what route do they need to take? And then where in Hout Bay might be the best for them to set up camp for the day, nice spots, considering it is two elderleys with my two little ones, so preferably park close by the point where they can support?
