  1. Just technical note.. Mats are rfid, just low frequency, the others is high frequency/ultra high frequency and can be picked up to 100m away causing massive collisions (receivers can only read one tag at time) so each tag have to fight for position and resend until receiver acks the transmission (well sortoff), basicly because they can transmit so far they clash with each other, LF(mats) is about 20-40cm so hardley any interference from other tags (We been trying to replace timing system so been doing some testing over last 3 years)
  2. Beta always 1, but might show different until they update the source base event, normally happens bit later only.. That why 2019 seeding was so wacked, 2019 ctct massive difference in first group to second so skewed everything
  3. Previous years one got vouchers in almost all magazines or goody bags for a entry, so wifey could join easy and we strolled through, now she has to wait outside and i run through to get number..(she not paying R50 to look at “specials”). I would definitely make it free for all or at least one free entry extra per rider
  4. Must be dam strong rider cause rules state no assistance above 25km/h .. so he had to peddle all the extra weight at 35km/h .. respect
  5. As said, they made sure to not cross the matts and Im sure a few removed chips not to get detected. People complain each year, but you never hear about the thanks for getting pushed up the hills, getting nice wheel suck or just having some motivation shouted. (Well, thats how I try and do it, who knows, maybe im tjop as well, but will do it as long as i legally can)
  6. Never going to happen, the amount of people doing two laps illegally was nuts. I got passed by few and they all made very sure not to cross any racetec mats etc. (and the fact they started at least 30 minutes behind me)
  7. Dunno , I think it has very big place in events like CTCT, Just thinking out loud on how to try control it without major admin
  8. as said earlier, there was lots of elderly people who simply not able to complete the distance unassisted, they loved the fact that they could join in the fun. maybe the ebikes category must be limited to disabled/elderly or some health issue. There was 2 skinny guys jaaging that obviously could ride normal bike without any issue
  9. I chatted to few of them, they were grinning from ear to ear, Lots of 70+ riders having a joll. only times they were issue was the tjops that jaaged up the hills showing of, most of others was very well behave Wind was not issue.. they were cruising along.,
  10. o, anyone know what was going where the fire brigade was using ropes to repel down cliff to retrieve something/one? Hope not rider that went over
  11. Started in 1D , caugh 1c in no time.. then some cat(eye) jumped in front me and took out the back tyre just after Edenbu.something(that first hill) hooked onto 1H and then merged with up to about 1F. I stopped counting at 6 crashes, or where people got of bikes due to road narrowing or caused by water point stops. the 1 min gaps is just stupid unsafe second lap was baddd, the wind picked up and got soaking wet a few times. I felt really sorry for back markers, from smits. It was nice, all downwind till end. It was a Sub 3 heaven today, edit: 2f guys did not get official sub 3, 2A had a few
  12. there is normally few stalls for people forgetting stuff. Have look at start map, might be on there had quick look, seems like 3 racetec tents, so there should be something for numbers as well..
  13. dunno if posted already ... good news regarding protests (well, some of it) https://www.capetowncycletour.com/blog/newsflash-route-information-update/ Following a constructive, frank and open discussion with representatives of the Ocean View community and social activist, Fadiel Adams, the Cape Town Cycle Tour is pleased to advise that a mutual understanding of each other’s challenges and concerns were shared, and has resulted in the withdrawal for the call of disruption of the Cape Town Cycle Tour in the Ocean View area. During the meeting, the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust committed to continue working closely with all communities that the Cycle Tour touches, with a view to further strengthening communications and finding additional ways of giving back. “We discussed ways in which we could assist in securing much-needed support for identified and deserving projects in the area. We encourage all cyclists to show their support for the residents of Ocean View when passing by. They will have a silent protest and will be dressed in black to highlight the plight of safety and security for their families and loved ones in areas like Ocean View” said David Bellairs, a director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust. Each year the Cape Town Cycle Tour, through its beneficiaries Rotary Club of Claremont and Pedal Power Association (PPA), invest a considerable amount of money and support towards social upliftment and cycling development projects in underprivileged communities throughout the Cape.
  14. Never had issue with iphone .. just switch on low power mode, then battery last longer than 10 hrs with more than enough power for emergency's .. ive not done any races longer while using the phone, so cannot say full run time.
  15. Find friends on iphone .. Whatsapp share location , the racetec app is very hit/miss .. sometimes works, mostley not.

  18. Apparently Science shows that you need to start within 7 minutes of warmup otherwise no point. You normally sit for about 40minutes in the chute if you want to start anywhere in the region of the front of the group otherwise you going to be right at the back and probably end wrong side of the split right from start some gumph. (ok, they suggest 5 minutes recovery, but no longer than 10-15minutes after warmup depending on temperature) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5143772/ https://www.velonews.com/2018/06/news/training-center-new-science-warm_469717
