    Armstrong

....... so feck 'em all, I'll do it my way. I can just imagine the conversation between Bruyneel and Armstrong: A- so you agree JB? this is a training race? B- for sure Lance. A- what about the TdF? What do you think? B- Lance, you know exacty what I'm thinking... A&B in unison- Yep, we may as well win. Episode 2 coming up girls.
  2. Use Mr Min. Spray on and rub off. Grime comes off your bike more easily after a ride, even if you don't wash your bike- it will even help you to remove the little oil marks with a soft dry cloth. Now for a matt finish bike- I dunno.
  3. You havent been home since Tour of Durban? Drove back Sunday night. My wife just wonders why I have this silly grin on my face when she's next to me. She wonders what I've been up to.... and she hasn't noticed it yet. Maybe she's distracted... . Maybe this weekend....
  4. I shaved for the first time before the Tour Durban. Wifey hasn't noticed yet........ heeheehee. One scar on the right knee.
  5. Nice to meet you! Well done.
  6. Tubeless can be scary. It happened at the Barberton Classic. You can imagine the scene. About 10 km's up the climb, you are quietly suffering to yourself, not hearing anything, not aware of anyone near you, mindless to everything but the pain, grinding slowly, ever upwards, occasionally cursing for ever having gotten off the road bike. Everything is happening in a kind of cloudy slow motion, not because you're doped, but because you are in a haze..... and oh, it also happened to be misty. Then, an almighty explosion rips through your numb senses. You get splattered by white goo straight out of the Men in Black- or another movie. You quickly realize that you have a sphincter to control, and your brain works out that there's a guy next to you and his tyre has just blown. Lemme tell you, that was enough to tell me that tubeless is not for me. Having said that, what about inner tubes with sealant??
  7. Agreed. Some of my training rides make some of my races a regular stroll. Someone said something like if you want to race well, you have to train like you're racing. But just don't race in a training ride in the last few days leading to a race in which you wanna do well. You won't get fitter or faster for the race, and there's more of a chance of fatiguing in the race proper.
  8. On the Saturday before the Argus I did a training ride up Chappies. I hooked up with 2 other guys going up, and we worked OK together. Then we came up to a really slim (if I wasn't polite I would have said really thin) girl and her partner. Before I knew it the training ride was blown apart into a fullblown, off the saddle, leg tearing sprint for the top. I got off the ego bus, dropped back and let them race each other. I had finished my interval sprints the day before, was saving my hard work for the race itslef, and I was not getting dragged into this. Never saw them again.
  9. Thanks Crowdude- have emailed Neil to keep me a copy.
  10. Seeing as how you put up Campy Super Record 11, it means you can afford it. That's what I would go for. The cassette alone is 27g lighter than the Record 11, and 59g lighter than the Chorus cassette. I got the Chorus 11 gruppo for R13000 which was good enough for my level. But this- a thing of beauty.

    Loctite?

I just use nail varnish. Gold.
  12. At the 94.7 Expo I bought a sub to the "proposed" Cycle Sport mag, on blind faith, and not having heard anything for months until this email below on 8 April I thought that I had blown about R300 or something on a mag that would not be coming out. Then I got this email. Maybe this will provide a decent alternative to Bicycling, although I hope the editor knows how to spell apologise and with and first. Also, no Tread at the Nelspruit Exclusive Books. Where can I find it in Durban when I get there next weekend? Hi I am appologising for the late delivery for the Cycle Sport subscription that you took out at the 94.7 expo. We have encountered a glitch whith our licensor who would not allow us to print untill we had changed our companies registered name. We have now completed the paperwork and all is back on track. We have been told that we will be able to have our fist copies in print in May and available in June. All those subscribers who have paid and were waiting for their 1st copy in March will recieve their first copy in June along with an additional 3mths free as compensation. We thank you for your patience and loyalty and once again appologise for the delay. Please contact me if you have any questions or complaints. 13. I voted, but what happened to my post? Here it goes again- Campag is wot did it. Verrrr clever, Fire, verrr verrrr clever- you got my vote, taking it to 50-50. Good luck in separating North from South pornstar. This could precipitate a major war between the Keypies and the Howtengers, unless you select both.
  14. Or else you buy the GT Marathon for 14k, sell the SLX brand new for say 7k, then buy the XT (NOT XTR!!!) for R11000. You've paid R18,000 for a good GT bike that will end up with XT. Or ask the dealer to do a deal for you for the GT. That Marathon GT with I drive is a good bike. I have one with XT components, but I can't comment whether its better that the Silverback. I bought my GT Marathon 1 in April last year for about 17k. The XTR is overrated, and the XT is just as good and probably more durable.
  15. Thanks Nancy- that gives me some hope that its a repairable problem, but I've just downloaded again and the message is along these lines: Polar.exe 32 has encountered a problem and needs to close.... bla bla... you will lose information bla bla. I use a laptop with a built in infrared port, no external USB connection. I had no problems with the S725x download. Yang2009-04-12 12:23:09
  16. Any advice out there?
  17. After the theft of my Polar S725x, I managed to get hold of a CS400. But it doesn't download to my Polar ProTrainer 5 software. It starts the download, but then aborts it without completing it. Is there a separate software for the CS400? Where do I get it? Is there a site I can download from? (No luck on the Polar site) Other advice?
  18. Hey Andrew- greetings- try the Kings Stadium Medical Centre. The docs there do all the rugby guys, and are specialist sports doctors. Are we up for a Hub ride for the Tour Durban?
  19. What a culture of cycling, hey- the whole of France used to stop for the TdF. Cyclists were superheros.
  20. Girls, don't miss this.
  21. Don't miss this. Anquetil won the Tour in 1957, was 3rd in 1959, won it in 1961, '62, '63, and '64. In 1960 he won the Giro (the first Frenchman to do so). Poulidor came 3rd in 1962, 2nd in ?64, 2nd in '65, 3rd in '66. He was like the first Ulrich. Anquetil and Poulidor were huge rivals. It will be fascinating stuff.
