  1. Thought you were talking about AM but he's mighty mouse. This is one cool dude. Styleman, yoohoooo.Yang2009-09-05 12:59:19
  2. I did the Illovo, and I could have written gremlin's post, since my experience was exaclty the same. I have Kendas on my GT. The knobs stick out at an angle from the tyre and they are substantial, not little bumps. They perform great on loose stuff- sand, rocks etc, but pick up mud like crazy. There are tyres where the knobs don't lie in an angle along the outside edge of the tyre and would not pick up the mud as easily, or would shed it. Don't forget also that the pros would have 1. adapted their tyres to mud riding, and 2. they set off before the hordes, so that they would have been riding on unchurned surfaces.

Stop over at Charlotte's Place for a beer- very entertaining.
  4. At the last MTB race I did there were branches lying across these narrow little tracks used by wild animals in the forest, and these dips in the path and tons of mud and long downhills full of rocks, slippery grass.... sheeesh- these MTB dudes are crazy man- not an inch of taaaaar for miiiiiiiiiiles around- just dirtdirtdirtdirt. And mud and blood. It was the most fun I've had on a bike for a long time. Sorry about your mate's face plant- not nice- he's just gotta wear the scars for a while like medals.
  5. As a triath you already gotta do the cycle swim run, all good cardio vascular stuff. I would do supercircuit training to get some activity which will strengthen my skeletal structure and core, and as a balance to the swimming and cycling which are no/low impact sports. Touch rugby - higher chance of injury. Supercircuit will strengthen you, enable you to focus on your lower back, intercostals (rib muscles), and stomach groups, and then you can stretch in the gym afterwards along with some of those hotties. As a triath you don't want to bulk up, and you can tailor the supercircuit to do lots of light reps. That's what I would do, and I wish I was doing now.............
  6. A 2 week rest will in fact allow your muscles to rest and recover fully and you will likely have a strong ride. Just afterwards you may be more sore than if you had spent time on high cadence spinning in the second last week before the race. Also for a 105 km distance you may find yourself fading in the last 20 km's. Other factors include your nutrition during the race, if it rains re last year's event), your workout in the last 3 or 4 days leading up to the race, etc.....
  7. Hey guys, it looks like you're all playing the man instead of the ball, including Skiet Piet. Forget about the name calling and the quaint old Sarf Efrican lingo, and look objectively at the story The simple questions are: Did what he said happen? If so, is this acceptable in the pro peleton? If not, what are the true facts? How did the CKT's handle overseas? No need for personal attacks and name calling, however entertaining.
  8. Yep- just listen to that experience! I learnt about getting my HR down by inhaling deep, holding it for 2 or 3 seconds, exhaling, holding it for 2 or 3 seconds, repeat a few times and your HR drops. You can even experiment to see the effect by doing this while you're sitting right now. Just shows how important breathing is and that rapid shallow breathing does you no good when your HR is busting through the limits.
  9. http://www.cherryflava.com/cherryflava/2009/08/breaking-lance-armstrong-to-ride-the-2010-cape-epic.html?cid=6a00d83451aee269e20120a55b7d1b970c#comment-6a00d83451aee269e20120a55b7d1b970c Googled this link- so far can't find ahything else to confirm, altho' I guess that the twitter comment is as good as we'll get at this stage. I don't know twitter- can someone post this hub link to Lance's twitter page so that he can see the comments by the contemptuous guys on this thread who despise him and run him down, and those of us who appreciate his achievements and really look forward to seeing him here.
  10. Absolutely right GT- especially if you got the Polar already set up from someone else, eg bike 1 for a road bike and bike 2 for a MTB. Sometimes I forget to change between the two and get different readings on my 33,6km route. Yang2009-08-20 13:49:31
  11. Ooohh- there's gonna be some clever answers here.
  12. WELL DONE Malcolm.
  13. Its a size 19".
  14. Bump and g'night...
  15. Hey Ti- no show from Hubbers so far on the GF currently in the village- its been there since about Tues or Wed, a HT. What model was yours?
  16. Bump............
  17. **BUMP** Now log off.
  18. There's a stolen Gary Fisher in the local village market. Its a hardtail, not Glenb's, as reported recently, unfortunately. Spread the word and if you think its yours or one of your mates PM me to confirm the model and other id's of the bike, and tell me what you want to do. It has to be quick because it might not be there tomorrow or the day after. I need to log off now but will check during the day tomorrow.
  19. Whew man- the Folks- as they get older and the time gets closer- you start thinking back to the fact that they made you, and you look at them and remember when your dad was the age you are now and what he was like then compared to now. Whatever you do mate, take out the time, often, to reflect and appreciate the greatest people that you have ever known and will ever know- your Parents.
  20. Also, if you don't have time to wash out the pack, chuck it into the freezer. Then you can either wash it out when you have a chance or when you next go for a ride take it out and refill.
  21. Just leave your balls inside the bag. No need to take them out. You can wash your bag and your balls altogether, giving them a vigorous rub with warm water, sloshing them about with the cap closed. I like the idea of the throughpull with the brake cable...

    CamelBack

Not if you're going away for the weekend maybe I must buy my girlfriend one .... Camelbak make girl specific packs, designed to fit comfortably over the girly bits.
  23. i am a slowy. i stay on the left where possible. on singletrack i can't get out of your way' date=' no matter how loud you yell. if you are THAT good, then come past me in the bushes, in stead of expecting me to cycle in the bushes so that you can come passt. if you are that fast, what were you doing behind me anyway? [/quote'] Jacques, do yourself a favour, be nice, then other people will be nice to you. One day someone will plant you onetime (pun intended)- that means that someone will sommer klap you- for yelling at them. Just- be nice- and pass the message along to your other mates whose balls have just dropped- that means, your 16 year old mates.
  24. I make a point of saying to the lighties go for it boytjie, you're doing well. Then they move over because they know you're behind them, then I say thanks. Simple. Elegant. And much better than the aggro, ego-centred moronic rudeness described.
