  1. That does it- double Argus for me next year.
  2. I think that Energade is overrrated and too sweet. It also depends on your training session. I think that if Game was good enough for 10000's of Comrades Marathon runners for years, its good enough for my morning and weekend training rides, road or MTB. The tin you buy from Pick and Pay is great value for money, and it does the job without having to pay through my nose for the fancy stuff. The fancy stuff I use for racing is FiT Carbo Supreme. I've even found that the green Game mixed with the red Game ends up with a bleddy nice flavour .
  3. .....unless he passed it on to someone else.
  4. Those were the days.
  5. I once lent a pump to one of the ladies in an MTB race in KZN. Afterwards, I had to ask the compere to ask for that person to return it via him. Not a chance. Then I saw her get called up as one of the top finishers, so I went up to her. She gave it back without a word of thanks. Ungrateful...
  6. Thanks for this. Was watching Carte Blanche like half the rest of SA. Its a 3 hour programme on Lance, not just about the TDF. Close Up on ESPN, channel 231. Will be PVR'g the repeat since it started at 18:00.
  7. Contacted ASG and Lizle emailed back- no problem with the helmet replacement at any of its dealers. Delighted.
  8. The XT components on the Merida would swing it for me. The Volcan is a ggod bike (i have a hardtail), but the sram components on the spec sheet do not match the Merida's.
  9. Thanks T.
  10. What is ASG's helmet replacement policy? I came off last weekend and connected the tar hard with my helmet, breaking it. My head didn't feel a thing.
  11. Our pub time is still coming up after the aborted attempt at Sani, Boet. ***sigh***! So many races, so little time. 3 Towers is at the same time as the Logico Swazi Frontier. . I'll have to get the 3 Towers under my belt next year.
  12. Yep, Nico Bell's shop. Nico and mom and pop, Sharon and George- great family, great riders, great shop.
  13. Truly the fattest cow I've ever seen too. Mt fastest was slow in comparison- 84k's down the ou Kaapse Weg on the old route.
  14. Imagine what he could do on a 11.5kg Spes and with shaved legs...... This sounds like one of those undiscovered prodigies. With training and the right equipment he could yet make a mark on the vets events. It also supports the theory that runners make great cyclists.
  15. That can only be American hype and marketing, but I don't think that even the Americans could be so arrogant as to imply that ATOC can be greater than the Giro.
  16. Ok, but isn't it harder to digest? Does it become available as fuel soon enough? Oats is low GI and takes longer to start converting to fuel than high GI and sustains your energy levels for longer as a result. But if not cooked then may take even longer.
  17. What's the benefit of raw oats over cooked? I always put my oats in the microwave for 4 minutes. Then I put in a banana and raisins and honey or sugar. Why raw?
  18. That's a special bike Boet. My bikes say howzit. And on to the thread- that ride around Simonstown, Boulders, and on is awesome. Makes me want to go back under calmer circumstances than the Argus and chill out there for a few days.
  19. Unfortunately not. But does she know?
  20. Is this THE bike? The one with a thousand tales to tell?
  21. Half the okes I see in Assos' that are in front of me I can see their crack. Yuchh! I either let them get away or get past them. And I'm not trying to be nasty. My questions are- Are Assos's supposed to be seethru? If not, do they get that way because of wear and the owners can't afford replacments after the initial outlay? Do the wearers realise that their cracks are visible? Why do the wearers with the seethru ones normally have cellulite? Gag... Why have I never seen a hottie butt in an Assos, except for in their ad? How do you tell the oke in front of you with the seethru Assos and a Yuch crack that the riders behind are bringing up not because of the pace he's setting. And...and...
  22. I also weigh 74kg's. With this bike I wouldn't have to eat any less, and drop to the equivalent of 72,5 kg's.
  23. Eishh. I went thru ORT in December to Madeira with my bike but was lucky to get it the other side. Hope yours appears for you. Another time I was sitting in one of those small jets on my way back to Moz and I watched them load up- horror- no bike bag ! I screamed off the plane and started to make a noise about where my bike was and I was never gonna see it again. The official on the ground spoke into a radio saying to whoever what was happening and I was delaying the plane. I heard whoever's response back over the radio "arrest him and get that plane onto the runway". needless to say I got back on the plane, tail between legs . Good ending tho'- my bike arrived in Beira 2 days later.
  24. Search Magic Lights on the Hub- you will get great attention from Brad Jackson. I bought a set for my handlebars and one that sits on my helmet. The latter avoids the blind spots on single track riding at night. These lights will get me through my night riding training for events coming up and the evening events I want to do. Probably best value for money and great beams. I have expereience of the R200 jobs from the LBS, but I now keep that one handy for when we get power cuts at home. It depends on what riding you want to do, but I would avoid the cheap ones. I know look forward to getting the new mount.
  25. Another reality check from Intern- you're absolutely right. Lets see how the roads are come the race- but as I said- practice your bunny hopping, not to mention your peripheral vision as you dodge cracks, bumps and holes at 70km/h.
