  12. One day I stopped to offer assistance to a mtb rider, then as I rode away I got a flat. No one to help me - bunch of idiots rode past me and no one offered help despite my struggling to get my tire off the rim. Then another lone rider helped and I was off in 5min. After that experience I stop to help anyone - even the gardner types. Was driving near the Sandton Clinic about 6months ago and saw a cyclist fall in the road - I pulled up behind her with my hazards on and offered assistance. Stayed there until she was up and riding again. As cyclists I agree - we need to stop and help each other whether we are in our cars or on our bikes.
  13. Hi guys, I am going to be riding up from Douglasdale to the Jansmuts part of the Spruit and then up to Emmerentia where I plan on mucking about there for a bit. 16. I fully agree with Rhodent. Why should a car or motorcycle user be forced to stop and we have full licence to be idiots? If you are in front and signal to the group to go through a red robot you should seriously consider what the heck you are doing on a bicycle. Or, fine, signal but then stop in the middle of the intersection and wait for the last person to cross safely - that way if they get hit, you get hit. Red means stop!!!!!
  17. Come to Jozi - in the South we have fast and flat, in the North we have rolling hills with some bugger hills in between. Do the Cape thing and come to Jozi for holiday.
  18. Misbehave yourselves and dont drink and cycle drive Catch ya all in 2009!
  19. I have a small mtb with spd pedals on (the half flat, half spd type so spds or normal takkies will do). Feel free to bring your pedals. It is a 7speed bike but will be fine for this type of riding. We leave from 38 Riverlair, Hornbill road (cnr Comry and Hornbill) Douglasdale. 1pm. Heading out towards Spruit then up the Spruit to Emmerentia. Will pm my cell nr
  20. You tell me! How about today? Or.... Join us at 1pm on Saturday. Or... Northern Farms on Sunday?
  21. I agree - start mtb. I started mtb and rode a number of road races on my mtb including 94.7, argus, fast one, liberty life before i even thought of getting a road bike. A mtb is a very versatile bike. You can pound it in races, you can coddle it on the road.... It is a fun bike to have. Just go with something that is upgradable - my silverback was not so I had to buy a new one. Can this day be over?? I see my mtb on the back of my car!! I want to go play. That will happen to you too!!
  22. Okay.... so simple solution - we need to get you to try out both! I work in Sunninghill so can ride with you after work. Mountain bike is generally more fun and social. Road cycling is highly social but is best done as a group (ie friends or a club). Fortunately for you in Joburg there is plenty of nice mtb stuff. Bike Park and Northern Farms are just 2 of the nice stuff to start with. So.... go look at bikes but also keep your eye out on the Hub. I will email you pics as soon as I have them of the one my friend is selling to give you an idea. As a girl, go to Mikes Bikes - there was a topic here 2 weeks about the girly bike store thing posted by Noobie. Gale can give you some help. Trust me: things are different for us gals and dont believe everything a guy tells you. First thing: saddles ARE important for a girl. Get a good one or you will suffer. Shorts are also nb - boys shorts are NOT the same. If you need anything just ask us. My number is..... I emailed it to you. If you need anything.
