  1. Also look at the R451, I've heard that it's also a nice dirtroad. Alittle further along the Molotto road.
  2. Something like this: http://goo.gl/maps/yrlzu From where the route starts up untill the train tracks on Molotto road there's a nice dirt track off to the western side that you can ride. From the train tracks north the road shoulder gets a bit dodge however. You can also hook a right at the train tracks and follow them untill the Kameelfontein road (Which is the road you turn right into from Molotto road on the map)
  3. Well, from Waverley you can go through the poort to Zambezi road, you can carry straight on ove to the Molotto road and go past the dam, then take the first tar road right. About 3km down this road you get a wiiiiide dirt road going left, that goes pretty much all the way to Cullinan. Let me see if I have a track or google map of it.
  4. Yoh yoh yoh ... is it just me or is there a lot of things I'm suddenly super glad I'm missing out on as a MTBer? Seems there are rules about rules for rules about etiquete about rules ... I enjoy a good road-fight between me on my MTB and whatever passes me (or that I pass) during my daily commutes ... it's always satisfying to get that nod as you manage to outsprint someone between robots ... or die trying. Couple of weeks back I was standing idling at a robot in Duncan road, waiting for the light to turn green, baggies and laptop backpack on, just enjoying the varsity scenery when two carbon road bikes pull past me to 'push in' in front of me ... I thought "Game on" as I was feeling particularly strong that day. As the robot turned green I piled all the gears I had on, stood up and hammered as hard as I could. As I passed the front guy I chirped "Are you coming?" and kept hammering ... lol ... knowing that he must pass me soon. Well, a solid 2km sprint later (I was blowing like a steam train by then) a robot finally catches me, and I turn around to check for him ... couple of bike lengths behind. I manage to choke out "Sorry that was cheeky" but he goes "Nooit, that was a turn of speed" Well chuffed I was Makes me smile whenever I ride that stretch again. Thing is, as a regular Silly Commute Racer, I know that you can never know how many miles are in someone else's legs for the day/week, and how far he/she must still go ... It's all in that one mile, those 5 minutes, that your roads converge.
  5. Ever try mounting the carb backwards? Webers are sneaky little ****s to get right when you're not going in a straight line on a flat road. I had a few (3) on a 3.2l Essex motor in a Willys, one of the tricks to get it working properly was to turn then around, the other was to change the max float level from 45mm to 54mm - that thing went like the clappers, was like having fuel injection (with a 3 bar possitive pressure on the hoses though - any less and not enough juice)
  6. Yeah I've 'lost' quite a few mates ... in retrospect they fall into this category. No great loss then
  7. Nooit, I'm afraid it will rub off BTW, that's a drawing my 7 year old son made of me on the fridge, and it's pretty accurate (down to the scar on the neck)
  8. Maybe also post to Brytonsa on facebook. Me, I would've slapped the living ****s out of the guy and taken the units, but I've been having a rough month.
  9. May be able to squeeze it in .. So bring a bike
  10. Lean the bike, not the rider? IE Stay upright but lean your bike through the corner.
  11. Hi Clive, Any chance of sending the results to SASeeding? That would be nice
  12. Gold Fortuner? Lol, 99% of cyclists have had a close shave on the road with one of those. I would've pointed and laughed
  13. Yeah that start chute was a real chatterbox Liked it for a change, everyone was talking rubbish.
  14. Ha ha ha ... yeah you left me in the dust. Check my signature line, my chirp was of course tongue in cheek. No, Maniyak cycles kit. I thought it hurt this morning (which I'm blaming for a lousy-ish time) but now it's daaaamn sore. My legs have around 20-25 cuts on them, they burn like all hell. Cleaned them with Dettol and put some germolene on, still burning lol. Hoping to catch a backrub from the missus tonight to sort that pain out ....
  15. Cause you rode like a girl
  16. Took one hell of a tumble, just after the rocky descent after three sisters. Nothing broken but my ego, back was sore (bruised) after that so ended up slowing down. I dunno about this race, I loved the climbs and the singletrack, but there's sections that's downright dangerous, and there's sections that's just a mofo bitch on your back (seriously, who wants to do 5km on grass tufts/graspolle? It's an effing killer on your back) A lot of development needs to be done on that track, but it has GREAT potential. The marking was good, the marshalls were mostly good (except for the one guy waving his flag left and pointing right, hella confusing so I spoke to him and explained why there's so many skidmarks to the left (we were supposed to go right) and he chuckled and sorted his flag waving out.) Nice to get a Bundy (would've been better if it was some of their legendary notorious rum) cooldrink and Jelly Bellys at the finish line. Debatable if I'll go back, and the tumble has nothing to do with it.
  17. 2 hours a week and a 'base' session over weekends ... what other sport is that seeding in?
  18. Also doing my first one on Saturday
  19. I tried, you can't cycle in the reserve. They're full of crap. I ended up doing some road riding, although there's a nice dirt road to Stoffberg and back. I don't know of any trails in the area apart from that one 4x4place on the way back to Middelburg ... whatsitsname ... Something Gorge.
  20. tyerone, try looking for Byron Fereirra (helpmytrap on the hub) - they ride that area VROT and there's a ton of routes that you can try
  21. I'm way overdue for a ride at VG - lemme chat to the minister of funny looks tonight, let you know tomorrow morning.
  22. If it weren't for the clipped-in bit I could've sworn it's ... uhm ... uhm ... our resident Spruit Ninja.
  23. Forgot to add: Can we see that number quickly?
  24. Thanks Super J - can we send cards/biltong/flowers yet?
  25. Oh you sonofabitch.
