  1. Recent, but lost to a scurmudgeonly bike thief... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/166644-stolen-niner-sir9-2012-avon/
  2. Used to have the old Super Tacky 2.5's on my DH bike of olde. Loved them.
  3. Oh, I know that. Leptin. And insulin blocks leptin. And then also, if you've got enough fat deposits the body produces boatloads of leptin naturally. But if you eat sugary stuff and have insulin spikes, those leptin parcels don't reach your brain to tell you you're full. And so the cycle starts. Simplistically, but yeah.
  4. The recipe to a good tyre is very simple. But it's amazing how little differences in block height, positioning, shape & siping make to the performance when things get gnarly. Not to mention the compound and casing. If you have a look at all the great AM tyres, they all look very similar. Minion vs Bontrager vs Magic vs e13 vs Grip'r & Rock'r vs Der Kaiser. I think my next tyre is going to be the old standard Minion. 2.5WT DoubleDown 3c MaxxGrip.
  5. Yeah. Can't argue with that. Personally - I'm limiting fat 'cos I'm fat enough. LOL. Also trying as bloody hard as possible to limit carbs. Not always practical to follow, but yeah. Oh - and I don't shy away from fat. Far from it. I just don't agree with the mantra that some people have of "eat as much fat as you like" whilst at the same time not monitoring calorie intake. It's VERY easy to over-eat, even on LCHF. Satiety signals and habit, together with sneaky calories in snacks.
  6. Gonna need your feedback on them, mate. Also - sauce?
  7. Pic for such should contain a feather boa. And his furbabies.
  8. 'cos he was just that type of person. Touched everybody he interacted with. Some more than others.
  9. Sorry guys. Really, really sorry.... My brother, Barry Mccallum, has died. The machines that go ping will be switched off in a while. Those machines have been keeping him alive since Monday night, but the cardiac arrest and the battle to bring him back from the brink was too much for Barry to handle. His brain was starved of oxygen for too long. Tests confirmed there was no brain function. The last test was done this morning. I am sitting looking at my brother in the ward in the Glynnwood ICU he has been in since Monday, February 20. His chest rises, the machines tell me he has a pulse and blood pressure, his skin is warm, but Barry has left this room already. He has left his body. I'm sure he around us. Perhaps he is already down at Grapes. Perhaps he is with his dogs, having one last tumble. My mother is sitting beside me. She has lost two sons and a husband in the last six years and three months. She is strong, but she told me watching Barry die has been the hardest. I've had writing to keep me distracted and a little sane. She has had the church and her faith. We cling to both today. I keep looking up at him as I write. This doesn't seem real. That's not Barry. That's not the father of Conor Mccallum and Breandan McCallum. That's not the man with the knife edge wit, a mind that never stopped, a body that he pushed to the limit. That's not That's not my brother. I keep touching his head and saying sorry. I don't know what I am sorry about. For not saying goodbye properly. But we never can. I never said goodbye to my dad or Brian McCallum. I miss them more than I ever told them. Barry's organs will be donated. Yes, even his kidneys and liver. They still have some good miles on them. We have agreed that it is better that Barry is gone. His life was full. We are not sure what his life would have been like had he come through this. I will write more later. Barry will be kept alive by the machines for a bit longer. We will say our final goodbyes in a bit. We are planning the funeral for next Thursday. We are not sure who to go through. We think we deserve most valued customer discount at Doves. Thank you all for your messages and love.
  10. yeah, that's why I amended my post for the differences in some people. Oh - and it's also HF relative to the SAD, afaik. If you've worked out what your protein requirement is, then great. Fat is the macro which you'd adjust to either lose or gain weight. And in some cases, it can get REALLY high...
  11. Nope. All you need for keto is limited carbohydrates. Gluconeogenesis is overblown, from what I've read. Also, you need protein to ensure that your LBM doesn't deteriorate. The ratio of protein to LBM varies depending on who you speak to and which calculator you use... The HF portion is for those people who don't have a lot of HF in them themselves. Fat can either be burnt from deitary intake, or from reserves. At the end of it all, total calories ingested do still matter. I'd point you to ketogains.com as a source for this. From there, several other sources are listed... As for the rest, 100% agreed. You MUST limit the carbs in order to stay in ketosis. And no link between CVD and cholestorol. But there are also several different "versions" of keto. Some SWEAR by adding as much fat as possible, some just say that as long as your carbs are lower than a certain level you will remain in ketosis. Depends on your goals, after all. And it depends on the person. Experiment. Record. Adapt.
  12. WTF?! So it's safe to assume you're on LCHP skip the fat unless you want it. AKA Keto.
  13. not necessary, but if you want it to reseal after puncturing then yes. And that's BS of the highest order. Grid tyres and sealant work perfectly
  14. HOW DARE YOU BE ACCOMMODATING OF OTHER PEOPLES' VIEWPOINTS AND CHANGE YOUR OPINION!!! Edit: Font change
  15. Oh. For a bit of context on the whole "speed" thing. Patrick (of Tygerberg MTB trail build fame) has recently had a PR on the way up to the Conters Mast. His time (on the Levo) is now just marginally faster than Wayne Schell's (the bloke in the videos) on his NORMAL bike. So ja. There you have it.
  16. Here's another of Wayne's videos. Note the way there's almost NO pedalling on the way down, therefore zero motor input. Also note his comments on the climbs...
  17. You've already had his input. They don't care about ebikes. They care about motorbikes. There's a difference in the implementation, power, usage, licensing and classification.
