  1. Some of them, yes. But I just think that considering the way society is at the moment, we're constantly surprised when something like this happens. Which means it'll sound a little patronising, but understandably so...
  2. reading too much into it, Stretch. ANYONE who goes to those lengths to reunite someone with their wallet is a legend in my books. It's not a quality that a lot of people have. Not quite the same as posting it on FB with an "I found a wallet, anyone know XYZ?" He took time out of his day, made a sign, and stood at the side of the road in teh hopes that someone would see him and know the owner of the wallet. That takes moral fortitude beyond what many SJW's will see in their lifetimes, let alone have themselves.
  3. They are great bits of kit, if you can afford the price tag. My dad has one of these... Busy trying to angle a way to get hold of it. Shopsmith Mk V. Got it for R 500 from a junk sale, and refurbished it himself. Shopsmith themselves have taken an interest in it as they don't see many of them being refurbished anymore. BRILLIANT piece of kit. Combination tablesaw, disc sander, drill press & lathe http://tomsworkbench.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/AnvMarkVGlamour6.gif
  4. That is absolutely amazing. Not many people have the moral fortitude to do that. Well done, Sifiso!
  5. agreed. But JINNE, they're getting $$$ Starting to think of building my own. Easy peasy.
  6. sash clamps are the business. LOVE those things.
  7. yeah, it contrasts.... But HEATHEN!!! It doth assault mine eyes... aaaaaanyway. Good joints on there. If you'd used meranti, or even some ply, IMO it would have been better from a visual perspective. It's just the stark contrast between the grains, and... PINE! Oak!? Really?! Very good joints, actually. I just personally can't get my head around mixing oak (even though I don't really LIKE oak all that much) with PINE. Of all things... Jinne.
  8. YOU DID NOT JUST MIX OAK AND PINE......
  9. My best work so far is without a doubt my son's cot. White oak, mortice & tenon joints for the slats and about 1200x600. Left unstained or varnished. Also made a base for our bed, out of meranti. Entertainment unit - Plywood stained dark. Coffee table - currently slapped together very quickly out of pallets Desk - unfinished roofing lumber, laminated with dowels and yet to be completed, but in place. Couch - basic frame out of 2x24mm shutterply sheets, laminated (on its was out as it was a stopgap) More to come.
  10. Just seen this on the website Update on Fitbit heart rate data integrationFitbit, the global market leader in fitness wearables, continually innovate to encourage their customers to lead healthier, more active lives. Wearing a Fitbit is a great way to help you stay motivated and improve your health by tracking your activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep. Vitality is working closely with Fitbit to enable the integration of heart rate data to enable you as a Fitbit Surge, Fitbit Charge HR or Fitbit Blaze user to earn Vitality points for heart rate tracking. The Fitbit and Vitality platforms will soon be integrated for heart rate tracking. Currently, Vitality members can earn 100 Vitality points for tracking 10 000 or more steps a day. Until the heart rate integration is complete, fitness points for heart rate cannot be allocated. Fitbit and Vitality are actively working to integrate as quickly as possible to enable you to earn Vitality points for heart rate tracking. We are expecting Vitality Fitbit users to be able to earn points for their heart rate by 1 August 2016. We will communicate to all of Vitality’s Fitbit users once the ability to earn points for heart rate tracking is in place. It’s great that you’re improving your health and wellbeing through exercise and we hope you continue to do so. If you have any queries, please visit the online Vitality support page.
  11. bloody hell, you're right. The points are teh wrong way around. 147BPM ride should have been 300 (30-90 min @ 80% plus) and 145BPM ride should have been 100 points (30-89 min @ 70%)
  12. maybe it didn't record the HR data. What device are you using? Should record the highest value for the workout. Send a screenshot of the workout to Vitalityescalations@discovery.co.za and ask them to allocate the correct points total to the exercise. It'll take a couple days to do, but they'll do it.
  13. okay, then the 300 points is correct. Where did you do the ride, for 100 points? At the gym on the spin bike or somewhere else? You sure it recorded as a ride, and not steps?
  14. oh, bloody hell - how I'd LOVE to ride that on a moto or in a fast car...
  15. Are you sure your HR was recorded and the timer was going for the entire workout? And - how old are you? Something seems off there...
  16. Freddy Hirsch. There's one in Montague Gardens, Chain road. Though not sure if they have a shop. The shop I got it from is their outlet in Maitland, just by the cemetary. 11th avenue / Voortrekker Road.
  17. Will definitely look into it. And agreed. Some of the cuts are just super fatty.
  18. Ja, opinions on the "correct" way differ. I just seal in a pan then whack it in the oven. As for the curing - yeah. The end result is hopefully going to be like pancetta. Though the piece of belly I have is pretty low on meat, but OMG it's delicious! Cut some off and used it in a mushroom pasta last night. Rendered it down in a little bit of butter, and by the time it was rendered it was LEKKER crispy and there was enough fat to fry off the mushies. WOW, that was good. When it's cured though... That will be even better! For Parma you'd probably have to use something like a shoulder.
  19. Really easy, actually. score skin, rub with olive oil & salt, in oven. Low and slow for a while nad then whack it up to the max for about 30 min to get the crackling up. I prefer to lay it out flat as it creates a more even cook on the crackling, but if you roll it it's also good. If you roll it, just render some of the fat down in a pan before putting it in the oven, otherwise the crackling doesn't come out as well.
  20. had some pork crackling... I've been curing some belly in the fridge for a week and a bit with biltong spice & curing salt, so I took the rind off last night and roasted it in the oven for about an hour. BEAUTIFUL crackling. Gave my son some and he loved it as well. Asked what it was and replied "piggy" His response - I like piggy.
  21. yeah, when all you have to work with is a crowbar and mallet, they get a bit more difficult. Next time I'll be using a reciprocating saw to dismantle them. No more problems then.
