  1. Rock Shox Reba 100 / 120mm would be a perfect fit, and a HUGE upgrade.
  2. Good luck with Steilte... bucketing down tomorrow
  3. 100% Those steep jobbies are little bastards. Momentum is your friend. Approach at speed and then just as you're about to hit the hill change down rapidly so when your run out of momentum you can carry on powering up them. Often no need to get out the saddle
  4. Went with a whole bunch of mates to paarl for our own shuttle day. 4 hours of shuttle. Awesome. Also did my biggest drop to date - 1.5m or so. I have the skill but it's the confidence holding me back. Felt sooo good to progress beyond my comfort zone and just realise that I am capable of that sort of feature.
  5. Very light! Holding up beautifully. I laced them but took them go Andrew @ Stoke to do the final touches. Very nice so far...
  6. Yeah, I haven't seen quite *that* level of flex....
  7. Nothing compared to the flex at 35,000 feet... I kid you not. And in the middle of a thunderstorm, with the turbulence going bos... It's designed to flex MUCH more than that
  8. Nix, you read my mind... Bonus, looks as if it's going VERY well so far. Meant to be? Maybe - but I reckon you guys are so invested in this, and done so much homework and mental preparation for this segment that you're actually finding it easier than expected due to that prep. Like studying for that exam and finding that ALL the questions are relating to the data that you studied the night before. No luck, no coincidence, just plain preparation and mental fortitude - going into it with an open mind and an even more open willingness to make it happen, no matter the consequences. Reminds me of when I went to the UK. And dammit, man, you've ignited a spark inside me that has remained buried for the past 8 years. Thank you. Thank you...

  10. And in the case of a broken derailleur, how does one pair the new unit? There has to be some allowance for new units, and a hard-coded pairing IMO wouldn't work in this situation... I thought about it, and then thought again. EDIT: The programmable gate remote thing though, that's a different thing (suppose the car key is as well, but that has to be done by the agents - meh) in that the user can most probably update the software to "pair" with the new item / derailleur. Will be interesting to see.
  11. Low power bluetooth and paired items, maybe?
  12. yeah, indeed. Which is why I prefer the SRAM approach of removable & fully interchangeable Li-Ion batteries (with a cr2032 for the shifters)
  13. Yeah. Possibly built into the hubs as a simple dynamo (already in existence) - wheels are always turning, no loss of forward momentum... Possibilities are there, for sure.
  14. One area Shimano does have the edge is in their control unit's ability to handle instructions on multiple platforms. That's a true benefit in and of itself, but I'm sure SRAM is also going to be doing that in the coming months (if not already)
  15. Correct... But personally, I'd rather have no wires in the gruppo for risk of getting cut. Yes, the chances are minimal, but if you suffer a cut wire somewhere along the line for whatever reason you won't be able to fix it in a hurry... EDIT: It also gets rid of the problem of trying to find a creative way of hiding the battery in frames that weren't designed with it in mind. Only question is what sort of protocol it'd be using to convey info between the units. Low Power Bluetooth? http://roadcyclinguk.com/gear/sram-wireless-electronic-groupset-spotted-womens-tour-flanders.html#sRg8iPiZ7j57UgRh.97 http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/article/sram-red-wireless-electronic-group-details-discovered-42174/
  16. Its this weekend!? When!? I'm not moving from my couch!!! Babysitter messaged... let's see...
  17. It's an evolution, for sure, and for that reason I would embrace it myself. But it is simply not the game changer that it's being portrayed as. Yes, it's good tech. No, it's not the biggest thing in the last 10 years. Is it bigger than the "change" to niners? Yes.
  18. There's a tremendous amount of kool-aid being consumed here... Bigger than tubeless? Carbon frame technology? Dropper? Narrow wide rings? Clutch derailleurs? Thru axles? Hydroforming? Gains in suspension tech? Geometry refinement? Nope. Sorry. It's merely the electrification of a mechanical mechanism. Droppers allowed an on the fly adjustment of the height of your seat. Tubeless allowed the tech of the tires to evolve at a rapid rate, running lower pressures and thus increasing grip in all situations. Narrow wide rings and clutch derailleurs allowed the retention of chains without the use of a chain guide. Suspension tech has revolutionized the way a fully suspended bike behaves on the trails. Carbon fibre tech has allowed for truly wonderful shapes and frame strengths not to mention far lighter parts... Nah. At the moment it's like drive by wire vs normal cable actuated accelerator pedals etc.
