  5. easy answer - try it and find out!!!- I don't see why that would be though, if you do it properly and balance (heh!) the workout / sitting with a bit of lower back exercises. The attempts at constantly rebalancing will not only activate your core, but also your lower back, as you will be using the whole area in order to remain upright. Okay - I'm no biokieticist, but I think that it's more important to concentrate on your core, and everything else will pull through. Just be sure to do some reverse lifts to further activate the back as well. Just in case, you know.
  6. sorry to piggy-back on this, but I am facing the same quandary. I am thinking very hard about getting the Conti Mountain kings when my IRC's wear out, and going tubeless at the same time. Problem is - I love hitting the hard stuff, and we al know that Tokai can have multiple seasons in one visit, not to mention the variety of terrain that it offers! my question is - would moving from the narrow 2.2 to the wider (and better looking) 2.4 cause me to lose in certain areas? Or would it be better to go for a 2.35 Nevegal, or wait for the new Weirwolf, which looks like my kinda tyre. Your views are welcome!
  7. It's too much of eish! need to get myself some flat pedals though... and a droppable seatpost... and a new crank and and and...
  8. just shows ya - never drill a seatpost!
  9. Shows you what skills Trials & single speed can give you... Insane vid!
  10. I'm wondering if i should wait for the new Weirwolf from WTB... saw their insider info video on the website and they look awesome. Those, or Conti Mountain Kings. Lauded as being the best all round tyre on the market
  11. Minty, it definitely makes me wanna ride. Just makes me want to keep the rubber down that much more!!!
  12. Do what WW suggests on the Tubeless side - need to get that done myself... more volume, more comfort, more control!!!
  13. heh... Morewoodkid is spot on. I was a bit farsighted in my recommendation, and should have recommended what he did first off.
  14. Sounds as if the discs & pads are just overheating... common problem with bottom end discs and pads, but one that can generally be sorted by getting a new, more heat efficient disc. Just think - you're on the brakes for, let's say 50% of the race. That's an hour on the brakes, at what i presume was a very high pressure. Just think how much heat that would be putting through the system. Just the fact that steam emanated from the discs when sprayed by your energade should tell you that much. Either that, or just spend less time on your brakes! Good set of discs can be bought for around R 300 (for Alligator windcutters - see pic) or more expensive ones can be upwards of R 300 per disc. But then you pay for what you get... a good disc with great heat dissipating properties... Don't let the low price of the Alligator discs fool you though - they are very good! Just make sure that if you're upgrading, you get a set of Metal Sintered brake pads, as any normal resin based pads would be ripped to shreds on the Alligators or any other "top line" disc. Plus, they're FAR better at dissipating heat, and will last much longer as well... As par as sponginess goes, it's par for the course for a low-end brake system. Also doesn't help the cause if the brake system overheats, because the fluid then boils and can cause the sponginess for obvious reasons... fluid becomes less viscous (more runny) I am assuming that the brakes are a low-end system... but then shuddery brakes generally boil down to the same thing. Overuse, and overheating. (please excuse the pun)
  15. Just been to tokai myself... Want to make it a weekday ritual. Get to work early, dial out early... trails are lookin awesome!
  16. SLX has been touted as being better than (current) XT for those conditions... Stronger rings (middle, at least) and a better look wins every time.
  17. Ridin in peak traffic is da bomb. Take it from an oke that's done 3 1/2 yrs in London traffic - the taxi / car drivers here have NUTHIN on the white van men & london cabs & busses!!!! At least you can sortof fathom what a driver is gonna do in the peak hour. Plus, you just carve thru them, jump a pavement if need be and get such a rush it's more than worth any potential danger! Plus, by the time the guys realize there's a green light, you're 3/4 to the whole way thru the intersection (if you're watchin lights properly and you don't miss the cleat...)
  18. looks like my place before i got home this arvie... servicing my fork tomorrow (ooooh - already sounds so duuuuuuurty!) and getting ready for winter. Need to replace the 1.95's with some Conti Mountain King 2.2's tho... Eish. And get a new set of pads, and an SLX crank, and a decent cassette, and a new fork.... AArgh!!! Wanna ride in da muuuuuuuud! So much bettr than the saaand! Jump Jump Jump!!!!
  19. Guys - in the W Cape area you can pick up the stickers from the PPA head office in Rondebosch. They have (had) stacks of them. Headmarshall - keep up the good work! I just look at the guys trying to pass me in the yellow lane on my morning drive into work (I pull in about a metre into the yellow and block them - and if they hoot just carry on going regardless) and wonder where the h3ll they heard that you can drive in the emergency lane!?
  20. The planet-x looks alot nicer than the Orca - sorta "classic" in it's make-up. Go for the Planet. Plus, if the Orca costs R 2,500 more AND you don't particularly like it, you'll like it even less when you want to change it again.
