  1. I asked about that today. The CWC build is J Bends. Didn't even know there were straight pull evo2s only knew about the straight pulls for road.
  2. If you plan on doing more road rides then it's worth it. I bought a road bike a couple weeks before the 2012 94.7. Its good fun actually. Don't ride it much because of the mtb and unsafe roads but I've got around 1500kms on it, and am glad I've had the road bike for those 1500kms. I wouldn't buy for 1 race and sell it straight after. That said you may find you really enjoy the road bike, so my feeling is get it, see if you like it, and go from there. I think my mate just bought a second hand one for 3500, so maybe offer a bit less than what he's asking. You're not going to lose a whole lot if you want to sell it later, and then there's also the whole n+1 thing with bikes... Edit: Make sure that you're not buying a bike that doesn't fit. Then you will regret it.
  3. I think the guys at Morningside cycles run some workshops on Thursday nights. I remember picking my bike up once and they were running one. Might be just before some of the big races though but definitely worth giving them a shout.
  4. I'm pretty sure the cable was the issue. I had a similar problem after transbaviaans last year. All I did was take the rear wheel off, shift to the smallest cog, push the derailleur to the largest cog - this gives the slack to release the housing. Then moved the housing to another section of the cable, wiped, and lubed (finish line ceramic) and its been hundreds ever since. Though mine started when I shifted in the middle of a river crossing probably "pulling" water into the cable housing. Glad to hear you got sorted though.

    Argus 2014

Any ideas as to what average time group T would do? First time I'm doing the Argus, so don't really know what to expect. How do you see what your seeding score is?
  8. Clearly not properly! Oops.
  9. +1 Same goes for everything. If you buy a new car from say VW, and they use Bosch spark plugs, and one of your spark plugs stops firing within the warranty period they don't tell you to go sort it out with Bosch. I'd also like to see someone take an IPhone to Samsung when something related to the processor goes wrong. Could go on for ages. At the end of the day the gent bought a bike. Not a frame from Silverback and a bunch of components from shimano/sram. I had an issue on my giant tcr, somehow bent the chainring slightly during a ride. Chainring got replaced with no questions, I didn't have to get hold of FSA to sort it out.
  10. Not familiar with those tyres at all. Could be that the valves are loose in the rim. And letting air out. Put your wheels under some water and look for bubbles. Extra Stans will make sure that any small issues between the rim and the tyre are sorted or the tape and the rim get sorted. Also you need to make sure the tyre is seated properly or it won't work no matter what you do.
  11. I think there was a marathon on Sunday morning - the pick n pay one from Saheti school round Edenvale and Bedfordview.
  12. +1
  13. I love the idea, but I personally think glasses may be a bit too "personal preference" for a race pack.
  14. McD23 yep the no more carry over points is a bit of a bi**h
  15. How'd they deny him gold? If he had the points he had the points. I weighed 109 at my assessment I think. Gave me a bmi of about 28 or 29 and I still got to gold.
  16. http://people.maths.ox.ac.uk/trefethen/bmi_calc.html Have a look at how they compare.
  17. What's interesting is if you look at what your lower limit can be to still be considered healthy. I'm 1.93m and weigh about 105. Upper limit is 93 kg, lower is.... 68kgs. So discovery actually think that someone my height is healthy at 68kgs. I remember seeing an article about how BMI is based on the theory that your bodyweight is proportional to the square of your height which is why tall people are really disadvantaged on the upper end of the BMI, and short people on the lower end. Remember him proposing a new BMI calculator where it's proportioned to the cube of your height amd it produced a much more normalised BMI. Cannot for the life of me remember who it was tho.
  18. Very few people have access to the full suite of SANS standards so would just accept this as great. Hopefully you can assist then with some further explanation of your conformance. What exactly does it mean that your charger is SANS60950 compliant in terms of safety. SANS60950 is the SANS standard for Information Technology Equipment - Safety. All is says about batteries is that the charger must be suitable to charge the battery, must not allow overcharging or reverse charging. Surely 61204-7 low voltage power supplies, dc output or 60086-4 primary batteries. Part 4: safety of lithium batteries would be more appropriate? Edit: I see you say that you are not certified, but conform to the standard
  19. +1 Tried it last winter.... not great for jhb winters. Currently using finish line ceramic. Perfect for your road bike if you don't mind a black (not gunky) chain. And working well on the mtb too.
  20. Missed the budget... oops
  21. Garmin 910xt. Also has swimming in case you decide to train for triathlons.
  22. Sidi Spiders. Very comfy. Easy to walk in, good power transfer. And they have replaceable treads - haven't had to replace yet but I'm sure it will come in handy.
  23. And at that price if you lose it or break it... not the end of the world. Plus adding a bluetooth heart rate monitor could set you up well.
  24. So MTN have released an android smartphone for R499. Might be worth a look for anyone wanting to use cheap phone for strava or bigyear or any others. http://mybroadband.co.za/news/smartphones/95627-mtn-steppa-android-smartphone-for-r499.html
  25. I would call it theft. Might be worth throwing that at them, and saying that you're happy to collect or lay a charge.
