  1. Happy to contribute within a broader group - also think a lot of other cyclists will be. Some thoughts: - Some of the funding can be self funded. You ask for a donation for every bike that you recover. - Create a Helderberg/Boland group where cyclists can upload bike related crime so that it gets more community involvement. Here you can also upload the work you do to recover bikes or prevent thefts - otherwise a donation will likey only be a once off thing.
  2. Well done - glad to hear that. Yeah I think I agree. Either plan it and get to a proper tier and then use the stores in the system or don’t bother.
  3. Have anyone actually used the 50% discount on race entries recently? https://www.discovery.co.za/vitality/team-vitality interested to know whether it’s worth it. As with all things Discovery-loyalty, I would wager that it’s not.
  4. Don't mind me, I'm just trying to stir.
  5. Nee come on - you have to get the R25,000 carbon Specialized one. Because children really remember that sort of thing and who cares about the homeless digging in the garbage bins when she rides in the front yard, scraping against the water fountain on her carbon Spez.
  6. I would be able to do all that except the alcohol part.
  7. It turns out I only have converter that converts to 9mm QR. Velicirapture is looking for the adapter converting to 15mm TA. It basically looks like a pipe.
  8. I have one lying around if you want to buy it. pm me and I can send you some details.
  9. I never said he doesn’t do his part but bad mouthing an organisation that does great work is not on. But I think the issue is that they only run on funding from outside and they cater for everyone not just mountain bikers. But that comes back to the point of if you don’t support them or give them your feedback and get the other side of the story then don’t bad mouth them on a public forum. And if you don’t ride their trails then I’m not sure why he commented at all.
  10. It's all about us yes. Please don't impose anything on anyone - we should all be free to choose whatever we want. Especially if it is our money. This is basically everything that's wrong with society. We've come to believe the lie that it's all about me. I live in Stellenbosch and when I came back from riding the W2W, I rode through Eden, Paradyskloof and Gspot and realised just how privileged we are to have some of the best mountain biking trails in the country. The team from STF, who works on donations btw, work endlessly to maintain trails and a general outdoor routes and areas for everyone. Not just mountain bikers. They've managed to make Konoliesland safe again and they've managed to dramatically improve the safety of Botmaskop. It's a fantastic organisation that does more for mountain biking and general outdoor activities than I could ever do. And using their trails doesn't cost a cent.
  11. You're missing the point - it's not about you and the types of trails you like to ride. Trail building creates jobs, it creates cycling/hiking/jogging awareness and it creates a nicer outdoor space which increases the safety of that area and keeps unwanted dodgy characters out.
  12. You obviously either live under a rock or you have no idea the extent to which Stellenbosch Trail Fund contribute towards creating routes for cyclists, hikers, joggers etc and the value it adds in vagrants finding other places to camp.
  13. Anyone seen the new Wine Lands Regional permit? Bought one on Tuesday because it's very much worth it and to support the industry. https://winelandstrails.com/ This allows for access to over 700 km of mountain bike trails - Wine Lands Cycling Club - A2Z (Grabouw) - Helderberg trials (Helderberg/Somerset West) - Stellenbosch Trail Fund (Stellenbosch) - MTO Jonkershoek (Stellenbosch - Banhoek Conservancy (Kylemore/Pniel) - Franschhoek trails (Franschoek) - Paarl trails (Paarl) - Wellington Wild boar and Scouts (Wellington) Membership will be valid from 1 December 2021 to 31 December 2022. Adult Board 19 - 64 years - cost of annual membership R1500 Junior Board < 18 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Senior board > 65 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Such a great initiative - apparently it took 3 years to get all the parties around the table and to agree.
  14. I think you would be best off chatting to someone reputable who won't try to take you for a ride. At your price range I wouldn't even look at a suspension fork, I'd just look at a cruiser and try get a decent shifter and rear derailleur. Take @RobertWhitehead up on his offer - he's a well respected guy around here and he'd be able to give you good advice.
  15. Not sure when the newer model of the Racing Ralph was released but I recently bought a pair of RRs (speed addix or whatever soft compound they use for racing) and mine seems to wear very quickly thus far. Think I'll go to Maxxis or Onza next round.
  16. If you don’t like how it makes your back sweat then I think you also won’t like how a hip pack will make your lower back sweat.

Never done it - definitely bucket list race. How much training does it take to complete without dying?
  19. I won't use Bogus/Anton and fast in the same sentence. I know a lot of other people had a great experience with him but mine was crap to say the least.
  20. If you think the price of a carbon Dual Sus 29er is bad then you should check out the prices on carbon 12" kids bikes at your nearest Specialized.

Are there perhaps shuttles running from/to Hermanus each day?
  22. Saddles, I find, are very personal. I also don't see a stong correlation between price and comfort. Start with your sit-bone width, then think of padding (medium to medium soft for most people), then think of cutout or no-cutout - my butt can't stand the rounded shape of a Fizik Gobi but other people find it very comfortable. Lastly, don't underestimate the comfort of a quality bib.
  23. Please expand on the first part. I’ve had a theory that a cassette should ladt at least 2-3 chains. Indefinitely is definitely intriguing.
