  1. Yup, the pic of the rider in pink is Sabine Thies. Due to the lack of numbers in the ladies category all the girls ride in the same class. On a good day we have 3 or 4 ladies who race DH (who would be in 3 separate categories), depending on injuries or other commitments. So, the blurb is correct as Beanie is currently racing in the elite ladies category along with all the other girls.
  2. Unfortunately can't make this weekend as I'm in Lesotho, but perhaps a can sneak off early on the Friday (5 June) and help out if required.
  3. Looking forward to another rad weekend of gravity driven pedal pleasure! Gimme a shout if you guys need help on the weekend of 30 -31 May and I'll help where I can.
  4. Kath was playing sweep for the event and was helping the back of the pack riders between stages. It made for a long day in the saddle, but there is no doubt that Beanie is a great little rider and getting quicker & quicker.
  5. The Mica hardware in Howick had a couple a while back. Known as a McLeod or Foresters Hoe. They do not give them away. In the region or R250 sans handle. That said, they are extremely useful. If they don't have stock, you can get them online here
  6. Since the Enduro races are fully self supported one needs to carry any spares that would be potentially needed on the trail, including sufficient liquid (and food) for the race. Those under seat tool bags are too rattly can potentially get ripped off when your seat is dropped and in general look ***. Locally the events (I've participated in) vary in distance from about 15km (@ Giba) to about 25km (@ Karkloof) where we had temps of 40C+ on the day, so carrying enough liquid is important. Plus there is no one to wince and moan to about water tables as there are none. It also offers some back protection but not the primary reason why people choose to wear them. The backpacks are worn by maybe 50% of the field. It comes down to personal preference.
  7. What a great day out on the DH bike! Thanks to all the guys and girls who make these events happen. Good Times!
  8. Royalty Sports are the local distributors. I would guess that they would be your 1st point of contact to find a retailer who stocks their product.
  9. What pressures were you running and on what rims were the tyres mounted?
  10. R350 ronds! Are they on crack? Look the idea is great but talk about reaming the cycling community.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, he is sponsored by G-Form and thus I'm sure he is expected to wear their product.
  12. On a complete bike you'll pay 15% duty and then pay VAT on top of that. If they split it for you then you'll only pay VAT on the frame & only pay VAT on the parts (i.e. no duties on bicycle spares), but they would have to be sent as two individual packages (AFAIK). The VAT will work out to 15.4% (as SARS adds 10% to the invoiced amount before applying the 14% VAT).
  13. They could be as the SG Schwalbe tyres get the gold lettering (as per the tyre in the pic), but it could also be an incorrect picture... The SG option refers to the tyres carcass and in the add you reference they say Snakeskin EVO, so I don't think they are the SG option. I'm currently running a 2.35 HD TrailStar up front with a PaceStar on the rear (also got them from EasyBike for the same price and they are not SG). The tyres have been good but I have also noticed the tears staring to show up on the front tyres side knobs (very similar to the pic in Jan_K's post above). None have torn off as yet. Been happy with the tyres thus far.
  14. To match me bars... http://www.treefortbikes.com/images/raw/sp3266.jpg And a couple of these so I can practice my wheel building skills. http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0202/9884/products/WTB-Frequency-i25-Team-26_1024x1024.jpg?v=1406678731
  15. As opposed to designing a high performance engine with 100's of moving parts... The cycling industry has lost its mind. It is crazy that a top end 'Enduro' MTB is way more expensive than a top end Hard Enduro Machine (like a KTM 300 6-days) which comes kitted out with all the bells & whistles.
  16. The problem with Yeti (locally) is the post sale service and availability of spare parts.... I know a number of people who are waiting on rear swing arms for the Yeti SB66. For this reason alone I would not go for this bike. Price tag according to the Yeti site (in USD): PRICING SB5C ENDURO $4,999 SB5C RACE $6,299 SB5C RACE + ENVE WHEELS $8,699 SB5C X01 $6,599 SB5C X01 + ENVE WHEELS $8,999 SB5C XX1 $10,599 FRAME ONLY SB5C $3,399 UPGRADES Thomson Covert Dropper $350
  17. How to impress chicks and break bones on a GS 800 http://youtu.be/btRvVLA0KzM Same, same, but on the bigger brother... http://youtu.be/tjnTNOlKy-M
  18. You can skim the seat and get a lowering link to get it as low as possible. http://www.motorcycleloweringlinks.com/images/yamaha-lowering-link-th.jpg Just search it on Google, there are plenty available on e-bay. Not sure about local as I've never needed to buy one. Just looked into it as my GF wants a bike and the last time she was on a dirt bike she bust her leg as she couldn't reach the floor.
  19. Count the number of spokes (probably 32), measure the width of the hub (very likely to be 135 if it is an xc bike) & take note of the axle (quick release, 10mm thru...). These will determine your hub specs. It is very unlikely that you have trashed the hub. Wheel could be out of true or even sometimes too much sealant can make a wheel feel like it has a hop.
  20. BASE suspension jump Looks fairly uncomfortable. http://vimeo.com/104863624
  21. I guess the best way to base points would be as a percentage of time difference between the discipline winner and your own finish time. So the winner of each event sets the benchmark. That way you can't just slack off in an event and hope for a decent position. You'd have to aim to stick as close to the winning time of each of the event winners as possible. Hope that makes sense, but it is sounding like a cool format.
  22. While not a formal event you can partake in all 3 disciplines at the KZN regional series (on different bikes). Your idea does sound pretty cool though. My guess is the AM/Enduro bikes would be the weapon of choice depending on how gnarly the Enduro & DH tracks are. Would certainly be a cool couple of days riding.
