  1. Have you ever been to an abattoir?
  2. These arguments make me chuckle, same as the silly "but gorillas eat plants" argument. Hippos (and gorillas) have tiny brains in order to make room for enormous masseter muscles that they need to chew on vast quantities of raw plant matter. They also have humongous digestive systems to allow them to process all the food they spend 8+ hours a day consuming. Humans don't need either of those since we eat cooked foods and energy dense foods, like meat.
  3. Say what?
  4. Didn't realise you needed a phd to pick up basic omissions and highlight cherry picked data from an epidemiology study, but ok. Chris Masterjohn (phd) had the exact same findings. The study, it should be mentioned, also doesn't appear to control for other causal or mitigating factors like exposure to carcinogens, exercise, family history, etc. As mentioned, there's a lack of proper clinical studies when it comes to nutritional science.
  5. I would take the results of The China Study with a pinch of salt. There have been numerous critiques of the data interpretation and omissions in the findings. https://chriskresser.com/rest-in-peace-china-study/ , http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com/China-Study.html and https://deniseminger.com/2010/07/07/the-china-study-fact-or-fallac/ are but a few of the dozens available. This is where it gets interesting, because there is similar evidence showing that a pure meat diet can help with auto immune diseases, among other things.
  6. Mostly because they are. I know many people who choose not to eat a particular food type, and other than asking them you wouldn't really know about it. And I only regularly see 2 vegans, so my experiences are based on a limited sample, but they both routinely bring up their dietary choice as being the 'right' way and berate meat eaters. I've had similar experiences with other vegans at social functions, so I'm not sure if this high level of enthusiasm is a thing or if I've just been unlucky. It gets tiring but doesn't particularly bother me. I eat meat and always will, and if someone chooses not to (for whatever reason) then that's their choice. The science behind it all is what fascinates me as dietary science is really in it's infancy when it comes to proper studies. Can humans genuinely survive on plant matter (without any supplements)?
  7. Cool thread. Could you post links to some studies where other factors have been controlled for? Not outright disagreeing with you, but there's a very blurred area when it comes to long term dietary control studies. Most of the older heart association research data has shown to be inaccurate and thus obsolete, and dietary cholesterol is turning out to not be the killer it was always labelled as. Another interesting association I recently read about is the one between religion and veganism, the theory being that one is often substituted for the other. Both of the vegans in my direct circle of friends came from strong religious backgrounds, and are now, what I'd call, fanatical vegans. So I wonder if there's any merit to that? Apologies for mentioning vegan and religion in the same sentence. This thread may implode.

  10. Or any DT with a 54t rachet in Best. Mod. Ever.
  11. Qantas tickets to Auckland are R10200 pp through Discovery Vitality. Staying with mates is free
  12. There's a product called ShoeGoo, available at Sportsmans Warehouse. It bonds to just about anything and remains flexible when dry.
  13. For 1 person to spend 2 weeks in NZ? Unless you stay at high-end hotels and eat out daily, you can do it for a LOT less than that. Heck, I know a family of 4 doing a 3 week trip there in Dec for R80k.

Oh for sure. But for identical FMJ ammo the .40 is going to generate more energy. I've never been too interested in caliber debates, because in a gun fight it doesn't really matter if you're holding a 9mm, 9mmP, .40, .45, or whatever. What matters is that you actually have it on you and that you can use it properly.

When you take expansion out of the damage equation (FMJ), it simply comes down to projectile weight x velocity to determine energy transfer to the target. A .40 is a significantly heavier round than a 9mmP...

Definitely don't agree. In SA, if you shoot someone in self defense, you really don't want to end up in court with a judge hearing their version of events versus yours. It generally does not end very well for the shooter. I actually have a friend who went through this following an armed robbery at his home. He shot both perps but didn't end them. They both turned out to be metro cops, and his life became a living hell for a long time. He ended up leaving the country to escape it. If you can resolve it without a gun, don't draw. If you have to draw, make it count.
  17. The good news is you're 2/3rds of the way through the hardest part. Our son was also born and raised far from any support structures. The first 6 months was tough, but it rapidly gets easier after that. Just pick a routine for her and stick to it
  18. Don't miss the opportunity, it may not be there in the future. The immigration landscape wrt NZ and OZ is changing rapidly.

Not at all. Carry ammo has always been Ranger SXT or loaded black talons. Range ammo is from the shop or loaded.

I've shot a .40 for 19 years, and it's a really great caliber. Offers a good balance of carrying capacity, penetration and stopping power.
  21. As a foreigner pointed out to me once, we have many nice things in SA, but we don't have our freedom. She was appalled that it is simply not safe to use the majority of public access areas in this country. Certainly got me thinking.
  22. That's very unhealthy. Water stored at below 60 degrees grows all sorts of things in it.
  23. BA's are in high demand in Oz and on the skills shortage list. Start with doing your skills assessment through the ACS to see if you qualify, and go from there. No real need for an agent.
  24. You're right, that 6 should have been an 8. R2800, not R2600
  25. LOL indeed. Remind me how R2600 is more than R4500? And price is not the point being discussed. The availability of 29er straight steerer forks was.
