  1. Smash and grabs, yes. But someone casually walking up to your car while you're stuck in traffic, flashing a gun, and then taking your cellphone (and watch and laptop out the boot, as per a mate), haven't heard of that anywhere other than in Sandton traffic. Could be wrong though, this is SA after all
  2. Drop me a PM
  3. Sorry to hear. Sounds like it's becoming quite common in Gauteng these days!
  4. Funny you should mention Jay. I have one of his vices that will be getting sold quite soon... Oak base, plus all the goodies. It really is a world class product. Actually going to sell my entire tying kit. Hooks, beads, materials, etc. Will hopefully find a taker for the whole lot
  5. Have 600sqm of paneled interior and a bit of exterior at our offices. Looks epic but costs are eye watering.
  6. VAT and duty is only charged on cost of goods, and not on the shipping cost. So it'll work out to a bit less.
  7. Duty exemption on EU imports, provided they're manufactured there.
  8. Correct. However, for complete bikes, if you can get Canyon to supply the correct invoice stating that the bike is built in Germany, it will be duty exempt so you'll only pay VAT. May require some debates at customs though.
  9. This year I need to pay them, due to CGT on some unit trusts I sold. I'll make them wait until the very end.
  10. Good show! They're all good kits, once you get used to working with them. Last night I used my Smith's kit to put a 20 degree edge on a new blade I'm busy making. Still amazes me how such a simple concept can work so darn well.
  11. If you have a real relationship with your kids and see them often, there's no need to sign anything. Moving children far away from one of their parents may not be in their best interests, and could outweigh the benefit of moving them to a first world country. And that is precisely what a court will look at.
  12. The idea with clay is that it's more of a steam than a boil. No need to submerge the cut of meat, so it develops that nice roasted texture without drying out or feeling boiled.. I had one, until I spilt cold water on the lid after cooking...
  13. They're quite different. Lansky/Smith's is a proper edge profiler, but takes longer and is not something you'd do too often. Warthog is more for quick sharpening - I have a similar sharpener I keep in the kitchen and for touch ups on other knives. Properly used, the lansky is hard to beat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlI5PaXsfOk
  14. Myles, where do you source hickory chips from? Ribs look darn good!
  15. Used tea bags left in the old paraffin work very well too.
  16. VAT was 10% on introduction in 1991. Increased to 14% in 1993.
  17. Even better! Speyside or islay? Or even a nice little bourbon?
  18. If I get a 4pm flight, will I make it in time?
  19. You will pay Canyon for the bike and shipping. When it lands here you will pay VAT and duty on the invoice amount (which will exclude shipping).
  20. I've 'heard' many stories about the parties on farms during picking season. Most backpackers don't really do it for the cash...
  21. That scent is called confidence. It's what a haircut and decent set of rags does for you
  22. A six and a half hour pork belly. You win this thread!
  23. Under R10k on Emirates via Discovery. I have some thinking to do this weekend! EDIT: R9028, to be exact
